The confession of a digital nomad...

In March 2022, I started a 3-month trip to Europe that turned into 2 years of travelling that is still going on to today and probably for a long time to come.
⁣
It started with a moment of despair during the COVID lockdown.
⁣
My whole 20s were spent working hard just for survival, making money, finding a job, and staying in Australia. I always thought one day, when things got a bit better, and I saved up some money, I could go on a holiday.
⁣
Before COVID happened, I was thinking about Europe. After 2 years of working nonstop, I thought maybe I could ask for 3 weeks off to visit Europe in September 2021.
⁣
That never happened because COVID hit.
⁣
I had this moment of sadness where I realised how short and unexpected life is, and how maybe I would never get to see the world.
⁣
So when it was all over, I quit my job and booked a one-way ticket to Europe. It was going to be just a 3-month trip, to fulfil my travel dream, then get back to normal life.
⁣
But then travelling became normal life.
⁣
The last 2 years have been amazing for the little girl from the little town (that my friends jokingly call a truck stop), in the middle of nowhere in Vietnam, growing up being taught to stay in the box, to experience.
⁣
The world is a magical place. People, culture, colours, smells, cities, landscapes.
⁣
5 continents. I've seen more than I've ever dreamed of.
⁣
My soul is free. I spread my wings and fly.
⁣
It is a fabulous lifestyle, I get to go wherever I want, whenever I want, I get to see the world, and set my own work hours, it's as much freedom as anyone can dream of.
⁣
When I share with others, some are amazed, some admire, some envy, some don't quite understand.
⁣
Yet recently I listened to this song and it brought me to tears.
⁣
It's called 'I've Never Been to Me'.
⁣
And it has a line that says: I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me.
⁣
I've been sipping champagne on the yacht and walking the beautiful islands of Greece.
I've been on the hot air balloon watching the magnificent sunrise over the valley of Cappadocia.
I've climbed in the most unprepared condition and laughed and cried on the mountain of Germany.
I've ridden camels in the desert of Morocco.
I've immersed in the wonder of the ancient world and stepped foot on the sacred temples of Egypt.
I've stood in the middle of hundreds of coloured lights inside the most incredible architecture of Spain.
I've ridden a scooter in the rain along the beautiful coast of Portugal.
And danced bachata at the beautiful sunset in Lisbon.
I've been among the clouds in the romantic snowy Swiss Alps.
And seen through my hotel room the entire city skyline of New York.
I've met my lover in a land far away. And kissed and danced with him under the sparkling Eiffel Tower.

But I haven't fully been to ME.
⁣
Don't get me wrong, in each of these moments, I have been truly happy. Content and fulfilled. I've been to all of these places for me. I chose me.⁣
⁣
But I also realised that: Wherever I go, there I am.⁣
⁣
I'm still learning to love me for all that I am, to be there for me, to treasure and nourish me wherever I am.⁣
⁣
So I can truly wholeheartedly be FREE.⁣
⁣
Free to be ME.⁣
⁣
I've been seeking my whole life for freedom. Today I learn that it comes from within 💛⁣

I hope you find the freedom to be you, exactly where you are.⁣
