good question, i think the odds are really stacked against Marchand to get in the hof, he has to really make it a no brainier. one of these days we may have to start talking about how Marchand is left very underrated by the history books. he's dirty, he's found success on teams with slightly more notable players, he's got no major individual awards. he may have found the holy trinity of reasons to be left out of the hall ignoring points.

Bruins fan since the 50's. I've seen a lot of class acts over the years. Marchie is not one of them. IMO ten years of babysitting by Bergeron made him look better than he was. He'll have the HOF numbers, but he'll need help getting inducted.
@alexschofield944
@alexschofield944 3 ай бұрын
“Babysitting by Bergeron made him look better than he was” - utter nonsense. Marchand is a top quality player and helped Bergeron be as great as he was as much as Bergy helped develop Marchy’s game. I’ve not always agreed or condoned Marchy’s antics, but that doesn’t detract from his ability nor the fact that he’s beloved by his teammates - which also rubbishes your class act comment. The work he does off the ice, the culture he’s been a huge part of helping to implement and the leadership he’s shown, especially in recent years, prove him to be a class act and one of the all time great Bruins.

Honestly I've loved this guy since I first seen him play. He plays with heart and emotion. Does he play on the edge? Sure. Has he gone over the edge? Yes he has. But he has tried to work on being more mature in his play and he really has worked hard at it. The guy wears his heart on his skeave. I understand fans not liking how he plays and that's their right. But I really hate when people don't realize what a great person he is off the ice, in the locker room or in the community. I mean I absolutely hated PK Suban as a player, and I really don't care for him on tv, but he is a really great guy off the ice and away from the cameras.

Can be infuriating, vicious and if he's called for something you didn't see, chances are the replay will show he did it. Yet: He can beat triple coverage and still get the pass across, is dogged and skilled with puck possession along the boards, and I've seen him, on several occasions during a sluggish game, seemingly say f*** this and strap the team onto his back and gut out a win. Also, in these days of generic cliche quotes, he's open, straightforward and frequently hilarious. Local fans love him and he returns the love. Other fans mock and insult him regularly and he leans right into it with a smirk. If he played for anyone else, I'd probably hate him, but as a Bruin he regularly brings a smile to my face.

His greatest moment was him crying on the bench during Game 7 of the 2019 SCF. His poorly timed change led to the GWG.

There's no doubt he's got talent but he's such an a** hole. Loved those tears in 2019, and weren't there more tears last year when the Bruins got eliminated by Florida? Can never forgive him for punching the Sedins in the face after every whistle in the 2011 final and shame on the referees for letting him get away with it. If he gets in the HOF, it will poison the water and greatly diminish the honor that getting voted into the HOF should be.

Not a fan. Because of the licking I find him distasteful. As a player you want six guys on your team with his skill. I don't have an HOF vote so it wouldn't bother me either way. I wonder if at least part of giving him the C was to try and make him be-some-have on the ice for the rest of his career.

I HAAAATE Marchand.. but I always say he is a fantastic player. He's so freaking good, he doesn't need to be a rat. But that's his game. I'd totally take him on the Lightning but that'll never happen

As a life long Boston fan I'm biased, but we love the guy! Has he played dirty? Yes. But most importantly he plays with passion. He started out with the nickname LIttle Ball of Hate which I guess for his detractors has turned into The Rat. I agree that he has matured and played more cleanly as he has aged. But what a lot of old Bruins fans appreciate about him beyond his pure talent, is his "old time hockey" attitude. He's like a character straight out of Slap Shot. (Charlestown Chiefs - Charlestown is a suburb of Boston). That attitude is reminiscent of the Bruins Lunch Pail era ((77-85) during which Terry O'Reilly and the rest of the team went into the stands and brawled with NY fans at Madison Sq. Garden. Hockey was different back then. It was blue collar and penalty minutes were even tracked on the back of hockey cards and not necessarily as a thing that was bad. Yes some of Brad's actions are as you say, "over the line" but we still love him, his passion, and his talent. He even has a pretty decent sense of humor he puts to use in trash talking. I hope his suspensions don't keep him out of the Hall of Fame, but I fear they may do so. In any event he will always be beloved in Boston!
