I have found that increasing my rotation to the left not only improved my position and efficiency smoothing out my stroke, but also helped greatly with giving me more time to exhale during that power stroke. I’m exhaling from the time my head turns back into the water all the way back to when I rotate my head to breath. It’s also an issue of using your core properly to move the air in and out. Thanks for all your help. You have greatly improved my swimming smoothness and efficiency these past few months. Thanks 🙏🏽

I have found that when I rotate my head fully to the left not only do I get improved smoothness, efficiency and streamlining, I also get the benefit of an extra second of exhalation. I exhale from the time my head goes into the water all the way through the left rotation and then back to when I lift my head to breathe. This extended time for exhalation has greatly improved my management of air. It’s also an issue of core strength managing how much air I can push out before I bring any new air in. Your videos have helped me greatly improve my efficiency, my comfort, my relaxation, my stroke and of course my breathing over the past few months. I’m very grateful!

I have some competitive swimming training, I've been swimming since childhood. I look after my head position, I breathe bubbles under the water, and I still get tired while swimming front crawl easily. Especially after flip turnes. I don't have that problem, or at least not that much with breaststroke and backstroke. Quite the contrary, I got the impression that my body has the best control while doing breaststroke, it relaxes me. Not freestyle... I feel like I can't relax, no matter what I do.

If I exhale in advance while freestyle, I immediately sink. My legs immediately sink if I bubble. So breathing out inside the water doesn't work for me. Am I weird?

There are different views on breathing. I'm a beginner and working on breathing technique. I've tried slowly letting my breath out in the water via my nose and then breathing in through my mouth quickly while my body is rotated on it's side during they typical stroke, very similar to what you're saying here I think. I've also tried another technique of exhaling quickly just before I breathe in, then holding my breath for two or three strokes and repeating, very similar to the person in the first part of this video. Either method I'm still out of breath after 25m. I'm not sure which one to go with at this point so I'll continue using both. I'm experimenting with dryland training to help with my breathing. That is using controlled breathing, as I would for swimming, whilst running, weight training, rope jumping etc. Do you see any issues with doing something like that I wonder? I've just started this so no idea if it's helping at this point. Just wondering.

If you are running, it is far better to breathe in through your nose. It is the exact opposite of swimming.

@@jenjen789 I realize that. I'm simply practicing different styles of controlled breathing while doing my land based cardio workouts cos I don't get in the pool that often.

i breathe every 2nd stroke and i have a constant stream of bubbles under water out of my nose, but i still exhale hard right before i get my head out to breathe. if i try to breathe every 3rd stroke i feel like im under water too long and need air.

Practice will make breathing 3's easier, but it's not totally necessary to swim well.

Thx, stream of bubbles underneath the body I understand as helpful. So I wouldn't turn my head to the opposite side during underwater exhale, thanks! Swimmer in 1st example also seemed to do a "windmill" stroke, permanently rotating the arms, not giving the chance for a good front reach- out. Isn't it?
