No mention of Deckard's shoes which were Adidas Stan Smith or Originals suitably weathered with acid. Probably the best outfit in cinema, it just blends perfectly into the world he lives in

Costume CO i'll have a look. It was a nice retro touch, where in any other detective film it would of been boots of shoes, it just looked good have him in like a slightyl tatty suit but with trainers. They were unrecognisable though as the tags were removed and the laces changedmedia.bladezone.com/contents/film/production/props/costumes/deckard/shoes/deckards_shoes.html

Oh my god!! Thank you for doing Bladerunner!!! It's been my favorite movie since I saw it as a little kid. The noir style of the film makes seeing the detail of the costumes near impossible. I loved that you were able to get good shots of them to share with us. I am very much looking forward to seeing Part II and getting the scoop on Rachel's costuming!! Seriously the best costumes ever made for any movie!!

+PrincessCupncake Thank you so much! I totally agree. I'm hoping to have part ll out on Friday. I was able to find lots of great photos of Rachael. Unfortunately, none of them are high res so it makes it difficult to see the detail. Cheers, Heidi.

I was buying and selling movie memorabilia for years. One of the first things I bought in the 1980's was the bloody bathrobe Tyrell wore in his death scene from Collectors Bookstore in LA and their monthly comic and movie auctions. That has been long gone since about 1990. BUT I still own the Ring of the Schwartz and the necklace which comes with it I got from them about 30 years ago.

Thank you for your hard work researching this aspect of Blade Runner's production. The film is an exquisite work of perfection that teases something new and beautiful with each viewing. Thanks to you I learned of the pattern in Tyrell's gown for the first time! I can't believe I hadn't noticed it before. Thank you for this excellent analysis and for enriching the film's body of knowledge.

I watched it a long time ago, but I immediately remembered the characters when you showed them. That's how iconic their costumes were. I really like the suits and trenchcoats. As a side-note: The iconic Eskimo outfit makes little sense. Although I'm not a biochemist, I've worked on genetic editing and had access to a cold room. You don't usually work in it. It's mostly an oversized fridge, but it does contain often some equipment especially HPLC or centrifuges. Both are equipment used for purifying samples and they take time to use, thus having the samples cooled is important. However, you usually only set up the machine and leave again and only come back sporadically. Today, most of the equipment has temperature control so that cold rooms are not necessary. You can handle samples at room temperature for a while, or put them on ice, similar to how you sell fish... Similarly, why wear those optics on the head, when you got better optics on the desk next to you?

I wanted to send appreciation for the detailed Blade Runner costume critique. I've been studying Syd Mead's portfolio recently and randomly found your scholarly post. I have felt for years that there has rarely been a movie made that rivals its graphic density. Even Ridley Scott hasn't made another one like it. Just to add one other data point, Thanks.

Costume CO yes, it's a 3-part BBC TV series about the occurrences before and during November 5th 1605 (celebrated as Guy Fawkes night in the UK). The costumes were very nice (in my non-expert opinion), you can see a stark contrast between costumes of the king's court (pumpkin shorts, lavish fabrics) and the noblemen (earls and dukes) who were wearing more 'practical' outfits - have a look, it was a visual treat for me (despite the gore.)

I just had a great chat with an older friend who I never even knew took film as lit in college with Bladerunner and it's string of studio edits as a major part of the course. The ways small amounts of cut/paste can so much change a story for better or worse. He had just seen the new one and I showed him Blackout 2022, he said "yes, it would be better to watch that before seeing the new sequel" so there's that bit of advise for you.

Why is it an American film it had a British director?
@Costume_CO
@Costume_CO 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, are you asking me why I said that this is an American film or is this just a general comment about why films are said to be American vs. British? If you are asking me why I said that it is an American film when the director Ridley Scott is British, it is because the production company is American, in the same way that when a film is nominated for an Academy Award, the trophy goes to the producers. That's not to say that the directors and the producers might often be the same people. This was early in Scott's career but as we know he went on to produce many pictures himself including Gladiator. In that example, the film was considered a British/American film because Scott's production company (shared with his brother Tony) and three other American production companies put up the money. I hope this helps.
