Love watching you cutting. I live in Central Pennsylvania and just had a local tree service take down a dead sugar maple from my backyard. They got here at 6:30 last Saturday and by 3 they were all cleaned up and gone. It wasn't that big, but at least 70 feet tall.

the wood going from trunk to roots on maple is a spessial type of wood. in the old days it was used for handles for different handtools. maple is a funny wood even to split its popps like nothing else.

those steps on the back of the chip truck is so smart wow and locust is another super hard wood. heavy as hell too. and if you trim them they come back with a vengence full of thorns theres a crazy tree

Big kudos to you for your channel. Really enjoyable stuff. I started out with my dad’s David Bradley gear driven chainsaw. 35 pounds and a 26” bar. You schlep that up and down a steep hillside and you have had your workout for the next 6 months! I watched your San Juan video and you swinging from one tree to the next over a cliff was really something. I crop dusted for 20+ years flying under power lines every day and but doing that would have freaked me out.

Sugar maple is a super hard variety of maple. That’s why it’s used for custom muzzleloader stocks

We have morbark with a grapple and 3 vermeer x19s (which are massive P.O.S.!!!) That we feed with skids and mini skids......needless to say my back and shoulders appreciate it. These setups are worth their weight in gold!

I remember when I was a kid growing up in southern Mississippi in the 1960s and we would have city cleanup crews come through the neighborhood after a hurricane. They had some big drum chippers also. But unlike the one you were featuring in this video, they didn’t have feed rollers. Operators would just toss the butt of a limb into the chute and the knives on the drum would just grab it and rip it out of their hands. It was a violent and I’m sure extremely dangerous operation to feed one of those things. I imagine several operators lost hands and arms or worse when their hands got caught in a tangled branch and they were sucked in along with the branch.

I live in Southern New England in a world of sugar maples - no firs. A neighbor's sugar house was across the road, and he used to tap my trees this time of year. I'm no pro, just a gentleman farmer with a wood/saw hobby. Probably 70% of my cutting is maple, with the balance white and red oak. My tractor saw is a 261 with just a muffler mod, and it's sweet spot is an 18" bar. My ground limber is a 361 with a 24". Really big stuff has been a 661CM with a 32", but at 73, the weight is starting to get to me. Just got the 500i that I was on a waiting list for a year and a half, so I'm anxious for that to take some of 661's work! From the world of long rakers and short bucking teeth! 😁

Sugar maple, hickory, white oak and locust are probably the hardest tress you’ll cut in Pennsylvania. Other than ironwood but they aren’t too common l.

A mini skid would have cut the time on that job site by half and the crew would’ve been less tired hauling all that debris by hand. We run 21xp with mini and full size skid for the large logs

Sugar maple is some of the best firewood. Once good and dry, it burns hot and for a long time.

As a species, hickory is rated at 1820 on the Janka hardness scale-the hardest domestic species. So if you're someone with higher than usual traffic, then Hickory may be the right choice for you.

Not sure what your thinking for travel saw but if that 261 is to small, try the MS 362 that’s our saw for limbing and cutting the tree down in firewood after the 201TC with a 16” bar runs out, honestly super impressed with my 362 full wrap just love it, we run it with a 24” sometimes a 28” it’s a really good saw for the size and weight ours is stock with a modded muffler and it cuts alllllll dayyyy long. Can’t recommend it enough, and if you port them they turn into monsters. I guarantee you would like it
