Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is an American superhero children's television series that premiered on August 28, 1993, on the Fox Kids programming block.
It is the first entry of the Power Rangers franchise, and became a 1990s pop culture phenomenon alongside a large line of action figures and other merchandise.
The show adapted stock footage from the Japanese TV series Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger (1992-1993), which was the 16th installment of Toei's Super Sentai franchise. The second and third seasons of the show drew elements and stock footage from Gosei Sentai Dairanger and Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, respectively, though the Zyuranger costumes were still used for the lead cast in these two seasons.
The shows path to US television was anything but smooth, however.

The year the white tiger zord came out, I worked one or two blocks from a local toy store. The line up of adults wishing to purchase it for their kids was incredible.

Without spoiling too much of the story of the Boom Studios Power Rangers comics (mainly due to allow people to discover it for themselves), it's basically the mature and gritty Power Rangers story we've been hoping for all these years.

6:47 "Difficulties maintaining stock levels." That... that is an understatement... I worked at ToysRUs that year. We didn't dare go out on the floor with them. We would cut off the top of the box and slide it out the back room door. To this day I can still hear the horrible sound of rending and clawing. And the screaming. My God, the screaming. Then I'd have to deal with them three days later in returns because those first figures were terribly breakable.

I was 8 years old when Power Rangers started so I was right in the target demographic. I watched from Mighty Morphin' to the end of In Space (AKA The Zordon Era). I tuned back in during Dino Thunder when I saw that Tommy (my favorite Ranger) was back. Then, I started watching the new seasons live with Dino Charge (which is awesome!). The show has its ups and downs. Its good seasons and bad seasons. But it is almost always fun. As for the toys, I had a ton of Zordon Era toys growing up. And when Bandai started the Legacy Collection re-releasing updated collector's versions of old toys, I bought in hard. Now that Hasbro has bought the franchise, I have sold most of my Bandai toys and have started fresh with the Lightning Collection. I have every figure released so far (3 Green Ranger/Putty 2 packs) and plan to keep buying them. I love the new 6 inch scale figures!

HA! I did the exact same thing as far as watching the series. But stopped after watching Dino Thunder. Now I'm watching all the original Sentai staring with Zyurangers and ending with Denji Sentai Megaranger since that's where I stopped watching with the American counter part.

I know what you mean. I've been a fan since I was six years old.Those Lightning Collection figures are awesome and so are the comics. The Power Rangers have had amazing comics runs lately. It's ironic how far the franchise has come. It's as beloved by young fans as it is by adults.

@@Type40Blog I skipped Turbo and came back for "In Space". And when Lost Galaxy aired, i was confused. Andros destroyed Zordons tube, destroying every evildoer in the universe with that... aaand where did those new evildoers come from?^^ But i liked it. The story was good and when the helmet of the Red Ranger broked, i knew that was some serious business that he was dealing with. After that i didn't had the time and the TV capabilities to watch more seasons and came back, when Dino Thunder aired. And until the second season of Megaforce (that one with the pirate theme) the seasons were great. I watched some of the Super Sentai episodes (including the finale where all former Megazords came together) first. And after that i have to say: Super Megaforce sucked. There were to many plotholes for me. Like: When did the Mighty Morphin' and Turbo Rangers got their powers back? Why is Tommy now the Green Ranger again? And why are some rangers duplicated?

"Beast Morphers creates a completely original story." Well, it was original when RPM did it.
@OtakuUnitedStudio
@OtakuUnitedStudio 4 жыл бұрын
RPM was a LITTLE different, in that it was set in a post apocalyptic alternate timeline where the villain had already succeeded and the Rangers are defending the last bastion of humanity while attempting to reclaim the Earth from their omnicidal overlord. Beast Morphers is kind of like a prequel in terms of how the virus hasn't conquered the Earth yet but otherwise sounds like the backstory for RPM's setting.

Ain't it a trip that a show made in the early 90s was still POPPIN OFF in the early 2000s, that's how I found them, and THANK THE STARS that TV channels were cool to keep up the reruns. The only downside of being a kid back then was not having the mental capacity to enjoy the rest of the PR shows and collect the merch! And being a kid at the turn of the Century was the best for television, toys, and games before things/reality got overcomplicated. I still love the movie despite it aging poorly, lots of nostalgia ingrained with Power Rangers for me! Thanks for the nostalgia fix because I'll look for any excuse to take the time to watch another fan explain cool bits of history about the show!

Great video as usual, Dan! Believe it or not, at the Retro-Con we met at in Valley Forge, my friend Carmen and I found two carded Transforming Yellow Ranger Trini action figures that we were able to score for $5 a piece! Keep up the Great Work!

By all rights, I should never have been interested in Power Rangers, because I was 19 when it first aired. Fortunately, however, I was in a circle of friends that was actively seeking out "camp" entertainment - Full Moon Entertainment movies and things like that. We latched onto Power Rangers hard. Great video!

We need a Power Rangers Top 10 with you in costume. I demand it. Kidding (about demanding it. You in costume counting down the rarest Power Rangers toys is no joke.), but great video. Love your channel and love Power Rangers so no-brainer. As always, fantastic quality and very well researched. As a big fan of this franchise, you hit all the major points. Extra credit for throwing in Sentai and the What If...Stan Lee Created Power Rangers (needs to be a real comic) bits.

Man, I was EVERYTHING Power Rangers when I was growing up. Flip head toys, Megazords, power buckles, masks, VHS of the show and movie (which I probably watched 100s of times) it lost me somewhere in the turbo series. Those were the carefree fun days. Miss that.

Great video. Id love to see a "Top 10 Zord" episode. Maybe some not yet made out of Japan Zords would make the list. While never having any original MMPR Zords as a kid owning the Legacy versions helped fill the void, but I have a soft spot for Power Rangers Time force for my #1 Megazord since it was the first ones I owned. The main Zord is great being compromises 5 decent individual ships. Those ships combine to one pretty awesome spaceship. Then when things get tough you can make 2 totally different Megazords from those same 5 ships for great playability.

Bless you and your channel! It’s another rare gem that actually fulfills the promise of the platform! A promise which has been broken by this very platform over and over by enabling and peddling radicals and propaganda. Bless you for roughing it out here. And as always, Great Stuff as always!
