I also heavily associate these concepts as well! I've never been much of a rhythm game player (though I did pick some up after picking up fighting games), but I am a long time piano player. Thinking of combo execution in terms of timing more than in terms of button presses really helps, I think. 9 times out of 10, the execution problem I face relate to timing more than input mistakes. Even stuff that feels like input mistakes is often a timing issue, like misjudging the starts and ends of buffer windows and finding windows to input motions where I didn't think there were. I don't play Street Fighter, but I think the concept is applicable universally. It's why people always emphasize not mashing out combos and instead trying to time them. Getting used to your character's input rhythms increases your execution ceiling a ton.

I’m glad it makes since. As someone who doesn’t really know how to read music, I’m glad it helps maybe we’ll do a pt.2 down the line.

cool concept, something like a Roman cancel in guilty gear could be a chord hit, and even a drive rush is a two note chord. the biggest issue is figuring out the timing!

Thus is the bane of a starting musician xD at some point we’ll do a follow up video. There’s definitely a lot more to discuss in there. Hope you voted on what character we are going to learn for next months live stream!

Links came naturally to me and spent many frustrating hours having no idea how to cancel and even today, links feel more natural than cancels.

That Will definitely happen. Maybe subconsciously you enjoy the technical side of the game?

🤔 I mean yes. You are correct: the problem is probably just to learn to input faster, but saying it that way is unhelpful ya know? It’s something that is hard to give advice for in comments form and would need reviewing fully to identify the problem.

This is great! Though I already kind of had a rhythm in my head while doing combos, I didn't think of it as a melody. And this reminds me of the episode in King of Queens where Doug needs a telephone number rhythm. 😂 Bambam baa, bam baa, bambam baa.

For modern I use a regular Xbox controller. For classic I use the Hori fighting stick alpha. Works really well for the price.
