"Solid?" You must have a low bar for acting chops. I LOVE this dude's dad, but Denzel can't (or couldn't in his younger days) even consistently get the lead role in top-tier multimillion dollar blockbusters like John David does. JDW never climbed up the ladder doing bit parts until his big break. He fell out of the NFL and right into TOP BILLING for a Christopher Fucking Nolan picture???? HOW??? What acting chops has this guy shown? Name one performance of his where you walked out blown away by his screen presence. Sorry to rant, but this dude is a prime nepo baby.

Nepotism isn’t always bad. People can’t help how they are brought into the world. In fact nepotism is often harder to achieve accolades because of your folk. The caveat is showing up and showing out when given the opportunity and Washington isn’t a bad actor, but have yet to see great from him and agree there has not been much range with him or any deviation rather it was Ballers the TV show it tenet, he seems to play the same character personality

Gareth Edwards as a director has always fascinated me. He seems to use a lot of elements from smaller, arthouse-based films, yet applies them to bigger blockbuster films. Considering the man went from MONSTERS (a film with a budget of like $500K) to Godzilla 2014 in two films shows he has a lot of potential as a director. I mean, this is a man who gave us one of the Top 10 Best Movie Deaths of All Time in G14, yet still has a lot of smaller, intimate moments with the characters and themes. Come to think of it, his work (especially the little bits I've seen from this one) cause Edwards to kind of remind me of a cross between Alex Garland and Neill Blomkamp. I'm excited to check this one out, as I've heard good things so far!

This had so much potential . I think it looked fantastic but the story was so shallow. It felt WAYY to long! The most interesting plot point was glossed over. They could’ve focused on the attack on LA and human error. The rumba machine was also interesting but it’s never really explained. They wanted so badly for us to be invested in Joshua and this women he loves but it was so forced. Making the weapon a kid really didn’t add the emotional depth they thought it would. Like I would understand if they suffered a miscarriage and then she made the AI but as you said it’s never explained. I feel like these movies that use AI don’t really understand it so the whole movie felt scattered.

I thank y’all for this review. I saw this movie last week and would give it like a 7/10. I was confused as to way some reviewers were ranting and raving about this movie. To me the robots weren’t as advanced as I would think they would be. Like why wouldn’t they know all the humans moves before they attempt them? Another thing that bothered me was why didn’t the robots have a nonverbal way to communicate. Like the scene when the one robots speaks in a foreign language to the child that he was going to take care of the American and he hears it via the translator and kills the robot first. And yes they did a poor job on explaining how Mya creates the weapon, and what exactly her role was. Lots of holes in the plot.

It’s also a ‘Garden of Eden’ reference. Remember in the car, alpha was listening to the radio and one of the stations was tuned to a radio host reading out Genesis 2:23 “and she shall be called woman because she was taken out of man”. The film is also broken into chapters that feel very reminiscent of genesis 1,2&3 and the order of creation, only in the film, steps 2&3 are swapped: creator, child, woman. Adam in the film would then be main character’s role and his wife gave birth to human (well in theory) and meta humans. Remember she was in a weird coma and protag was given instruction to help her get unstuck from her purgatory. She’s essentially “reborn” or “resurrected” or made anew kind of like eve in the garden

Fellas, this was the worst sci-fi film I’ve seen in a long time. It’s so flat, so hollow, so ridiculous! Way too many easy plotholes, and I’m sorry to those who like him, but John David Washington is currently one of the worst lead actors in Hollywood. I don’t understand how he gets roles. If this movie had a better lead it would’ve gotten away with some of its plotholes, but his acting is so wooden I don’t care about his connection with Maya or the child.

The anti-chemistry between the main character and the actress playing his wife was crazy. How did the director not see it? The uncomfortable translated I could sense it. Very awkward and I agree that his performance was not very good, he seemed very out of place to me. It’s a visually pleasing movie but no brains. If America fell the rest of the world would be a utopia, is from the mind of someone historically ignorant.

That being said: I’ve seen every single story beat before and found it not the least bit engaging on any level, other than aesthetically. "I no longer love blue skies. In fact, I now prefer grey skies. The drones do not fly when the skies are grey," a 13-year-old Pakistani boy named Zubair told Congress on Tuesday. Zubair was 12 when he and his younger sister, Nabeela, were injured in a drone strike near North Waziristan last October. "When sky brightens, drones return and we live in fear," Zubair told Rep. Alan Grayson and others at the congressional briefing." - The Atlantic

You two are the first folks who didn’t like this movie. I’m still going to go see it. You too get too fancy schmancy sometimes for your own good and can’t just sit back and enjoy a movie. Still love ya and would love to have a sleep over with both of you, but you ain’t talking me out of seeing this. So there…

I didn't notice all of the lazy writing that was highlighted in this video when I watched The Creator yesterday. I just enjoyed the film and found it to be beautifully shot. Even John David Washington (whom I felt did not do a good job as the lead in "Tenet") pulled off a great and engaging role in this film. I do plan on seeing this again, but in IMAX (it has limited viewings in that format around here).

Completely had the opposite response to this film. I loved it. It cost $80 mil and looks like a 150 mil production. The subtext of the film is what I found to be most interesting. How anti American it is and how the prejudice held towards asian people is baked into the script. It's this predudice that is the propelling theme of the movie. A very interesting effort and I look forward to see what Gareth Edwards does next. It's so hard to get movies made that are original and this film has made a very good effort to be that. Gareth should be allowed to do what he wants on the next one he does.

Movie about a praying Buddhist diode, made ready for Mr Rogers.....what people will waste their time on...based on a true story in the future, it's a small ory about a traitor to humanity that falls in love with a hardrive.

I give it a C- 1. Too much fightings, blowing up stuffs, too much action. 2. Tried too hard to make it into a love story. 3. The world doesn't need anymore movies with black/ white dating an Asian woman.
