I truly feel as though pannenkoek has shifted his focus slightly away from SM64 at the hyperspecific micro-scale and towards SM64 at the macro-scale and it really gives off a completely different vibe that feels unapologetically still his own. Lately Pannen's videos just capture a whimsy around this game that I can't help but feel warmed up by

This video made me so damn nostalgic. In the real sense of the word, not the fake internet oh 2 years ago was so nostalgic. This really gave me the same feeling in my tummy as watching the credits for the first time. Seeing a delightful trip through the worlds and scenery. Almost all content around Mario 64 makes it seem so empty and otherworldy, especially since we've all seen every corner of the game a few hundred times. But this one is the opposite. It makes the world seem so full of life and like all these different beings have their own stuff going on in life. Thanks for the art Pannenkoek!

Surely whatever is moving the chair is a creature though so I guess the main debate is whether the chair is possessed and contains a creature or is being telekinetically moved which I think would just make it an object being thrown which is only a creature within the bounds of the game but in canon is just a weapon being wielded. Though perhaps you could say that the chair is a weapon in either case because the spirit possessing the chair could in theory exist outside the chair much like a hermit crab.

Wow, getting a good close look at all the enemies has really given me a lot of insight into the tiny details the designers put into their models. The little "💢" on the amp, the bowser design and even just the faces of the heave-hos, and Wiggler's mouth. The monkey has a bare butt. The bats have faces. It's so cool!

Mario 64 is praised a lot for how revolutionary its gameplay is but something seldom talked about is the sweet heart it has at it's core, you befriend sooo many creatures! Including what were previously enemies! Bob-omb Buddy, Koopa the Quick, and they have a tonnn of dialogue too! Making them such appealing characters, way before the Mario RPGs this game was sympathetic with other creatures! The non-sentient creatures are also treated with respect, Unagi who is an absolute menace doesn't have to be defeated for a star despite being a threat, just carefully approach it, even the annoying ones like Ukiki & Klepto aren't punished for just being animals. In stark contrast to Mario Galaxy and the baby Dino Piranha... Mario 64 on the other hand has you return a baby penguin to its mother, it's all so sweet and kind, it's my favorite aspect of this game ==:)
