YUP. as does this new ''eric"...btw why is no one noticing that the girl's name is now ''julie" apparently....this movie could not be a more clear rip off and transparent cash grab to literally cash in on a tragedy while also destroying the original story. They literally ONLY kept the name ''eric"in there to generate controversy. Everything else they changed. Story, Girl's name, lore...etc. It is 100% BS.

It really does not sound like it in the trailer though. I keep listening to it and to me it sounds like he's saying ''Julie", not 'Shelley". I think initially they were going to not keep the names of the characters either but then decided to go full-grift-mode and HAD to try to keep the names and maximize the controversy clicks. I'm so tired of this BS. They keep pulling these stupid stunts. Also, the characters are completely different. So it acctually would have made sense to give them different names for real, not just via bad dubbing scenes. @@sirimity

When you want to comment on the new one remember there’s people that have never seen the original and weren’t born then and to them the new one looks cool with a transformation that looks and feels better than the new one, I don’t know Brandon Lee because all that happened before I was born, I love it but a lot of you old heads are saying the new one sucks but it makes more sense and looks better than the old one. I downloaded it off a site and OMG it looks so old movie ish with awful cgi and so boring. The new crow looks better already in my opinion. Review it on its own merit or demerit.

I think the bigger issue is that it's the 'modern audiences' version of The Crow. The original is such a personal, heart wrenching story (both the film and the comic) and this feels like it was written by a guy who's never had a truly bad day in his life.
@marinacaceres11112 ай бұрын
To me The Crow was more than just a timeless classic. It was my childhood and tweenhood. The Crow was Brandon Lee's breakout performance, his passion project, his grave. It was Fun Boy's actor's guilt over what happened. It was Brandon Lee's stunt double getting Latex placed in his face to look like Brandon so he could finish the movie. It was the crew and cast finishing that movie with the new goal of honoring Brandon. If this movie does well at all, it will be because of Bill. Hollywood should've left this alone for all the reasons stated above.
@Linklex72 ай бұрын
I love The Crow too but we can’t let Brandon’s death be a reason it’s never allowed to be touch again (especially the Eric Draven version). It’s been 30 years, enough time has passed that we can do a remake now. If it sucks, oh well we still have the original. If it’s good, congratulations we have the first good Crow movie since the original.
@crow_featherАй бұрын
@@Linklex7But there are plenty of graphic novels within The Crow series that they could have done without doing a remake of the original. Hollywood doing a remake is essentially them holding a middle finger up to the original, and, with it, Brandon Lee, and screaming out, "Fuck you! We can do better!" It's an insult to his memory in every way possible.
@comicsexpired764Ай бұрын
sorry for reaching out to this comment and cancel me if you wanna, but i don’t think those are good enough reasons for the crow to not be remade. Brandon died making the movie sure but (and forgive me for saying this) BUT that is absolutely no reason for anyone to be upset about the remake. Obviously the movie isn’t going to be as good as the original. but it still could be a good movie. yall need to think about that
@crow_featherАй бұрын
@@comicsexpired764 Well, personally, I think cancelling people under any circumstances is ridiculous, so you don't have to worry about that, at least as far as I'm concerned! That said, one, by remaking this film, they're essentially taking a look at the original, throwing it a HUGE middle finger, and going, "Fuck you! We can do better!" And that's a TERRIBLE insult to Brandon's memory! That alone makes it more than worth boycotting, because seriously, to hell with anyone for doing that to him! But beyond that, this just looks like a horrible film. This rendition of The Crow looks like Jared Leto's (Suicide Squad) version of the Joker trying WAY too hard to be Goth! The actress that they got for Shelly is pretty enough and a decent enough actress, but she doesn't look or feel anything like I remember Shelly looking or acting like in the graphic novel. Plus, the film itself is entirely too polished to ever be true to the gritty realness of the graphic novel it's based on. In it, Eric was actually a junkie who self-harmed, aspects of his character that Brandon wanted to put in, but the director wouldn't let him, so he resorted to taping his arms with black tape as tribute to that fact. Here, they completely ignored that fact altogether, without even track marks on his arms or wrapping them in black tape in tribute to this deeply important aspect of who Eric is, and instead gave us an overly polished, high budget Hollywood film that is supposed to be closer to the comics than the original, but instead gutted the soul from it entirely. If the original had never been made, and I saw the previews for this one, I would simply think it looks like a terrible film--maybe mediocre at best--and not see it simply because it just looks like a seriously bad film. And that sucks, because I actually have a HUGE fondness for crows, and love the idea of them serving as a connection between our world and the afterlife. A movie has to look seriously bad for it to have that theme, and me not want to see it. This film, even when taken entirely on its own merits, without the original being taken into account, just looks that bad! But add in all of the other factors--especially the absolutely terrible "Fuck You!" they gave to Brandon by making this (that, by far, most of all!), and I just have zero desire to see it. It's just a terrible film, on multiple levels.

I absolutely agree. The minute I saw the style choice for Eric, I thought he looked like the person Eric would be seeking vengeance against. The reason I think I cared so much about Brandon Lees Eric was that he was likeable and had a sweetness to him. Despite his violent acts, you rooted for him. It felt justified. Eric and Shelly, though depicted as gothic in their lifestyle, which would have been seen as quite alternative at the time, they were "good people". They looked after a neglected kid. They were animal lovers, and the dynamic between them was tender and loving. They died because they were campaigning against tenancy eviction in a super corrupt city. Even though you only saw them together for 10 minutes tops, you cared. My worry is that casting them with more of a dysfunctional or toxic Joker/Harley Quinn vibe will mean they won't be likeable enough to care about. It will just end up being a boring shoot 'em up.

That was my feeling too. The trailer seemed to do the 'see they are having sex so you know they are in a relationship! You like them now right? Because sex!'. It didn't show any actual fun moments.
@ModernPlushCinema29 күн бұрын
@@1faithchick7 Well, technically they DID show that in the trailer, but yeah. I see where you're coming from. It looked more like something Funboy would do. lol I definitely see a lot of things in this trailer that kind of ruins The Crow. In the original movie, Eric and Shelly were seen as innocent young lovers who did absolutely nothing wrong like how the sad story intended to tell whereas in the remake, you see them in a place that kind of looks like a Psychiatric Ward and you see them having sex which begs the question 'Are they ACTUALLY not as innocent in this remake?' And when the guy says, 'But you're running out of time to save her.' SAVE her...? Bruh, she's GONE gone. Now I COULD be overthinking this and maybe they're just doing a subplot where Eric has to save Shelly's soul or something, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a revenge story. Even though it doesn't bring Shelly back (and the same can be said to others who have lost the ones they care about), our boy Eric wants to give his victims a taste of their own medicine since they're cold and heartless people like in the Princess Bride where Inigo Montoya seeks revenge against the six-fingered man who murdered his father. When Eric and Shelly were murdered in the remake, it looked so quick and painless which kind of irritates me. In the original movie, they were murdered by these psychopaths in the most horrifying way which really makes you feel sorry for the character, and it feels all the more satisfying to see the criminals get what's coming to them. I know they're just trying something new, but you know what they say, 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

I’ll start by saying I love The Crow. And being from North Carolina and having worked on the soundstages where it was filmed it has a very special place in my heart. And while it certainly didn’t need to be remade; I understand why they went with a different character design. This is a case of damned no matter what you do. If they had done a shot for shot remake including set and costume design ala Van Sant’s Psycho it would’ve been even more pointless. So while it may be an unpopular opinion, I’m glad for the shift in design and move away from soundstages to locations. I’ll judge the final project. Skarsgard is a damn good actor. He should be able to pull this off.

The 1994 movie was a perfect mix of grunge rock, gothic setting and an unforgettable performance by Brandon Lee. He was able to convey the emotional pain of the character. We arrived at that difficult time when we had to explain to the youngsters our "old" way of thinking. The 80's and 90's were a new dawn for the style of making movies; the birth of the action hero combined with new and old ideas that, with the use of computational digital effects, changed the way we perceive them. It is no coincidence that the large number of movies that came out at that time are venerated as the best in the history of cinema. And then there are also the "others" without great artistic or cultural value in themselves that today are simply considered "just one of the bunch." What many don't understand is that these movies must be judged at the time they went out to theaters. Many will say that Superman I and II, They Live, Big Trouble in Little China, The Last Starfire, My Science Project, Weird Science, the Philadelphia Project, etc. are cheesy as hell, but for us, they were wonders of the modern era simply because of the great visuals that, for the first time, we saw in front of us. Very different from the last 20 years in which it is simply a constant bombardment of movies and TV shows that, want to admit it or not, have their basic premises in those "cheap" movies of the 80's and 90's, so we find such a high volume of movies that are practically a copy of the previous one, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, you simply get fed up!! The beauty of us "old guys" is that we can compare them in real time, and they cannot easily fool us; we can say who is fake and who the true diamond is. I'm seeing you Star Wars: The Force Awakens!!

2:59 This is the point I think most OG fans of The Crow can all get behind Its not as simple as fans having unrealistic expectations. Its just that The Crow 1994 was such an iconic film and the story of Eric Draven is so special to many fans. If this had been a new character and a new story, Crow fans would be a lot more receptive and a lot less critical. There's nothing wrong with creativity and vision. But when regarding iconic characters from Cult Classics, its very difficult for fans to be on board a vision that appears to be a far-reaching departure from what fans fell in love with. Eric Draven was more than just a character in a story, he was a symbol, performed beautifully by Brandon Lee

Here is what they were going for with Eric’s look… According to Rupert Sanders, the character's appearance is drawn not from the James O'Barr source-material comic book series, nor tragic star Brandon Lee's take on the character in Alex Proyas' original film. Instead, the director considered his star's natural assets, and gazed into his own past. "I think the beauty of Bill is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss he becomes this thing that even he can't control," Sanders told Vanity Fair. "It's that famous line: 'Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don't become one.' That look was me in the '90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep. I hope people who are 19 today look at him and go, 'That guy is us.'" Sanders added that this image is from "the moment we realize bad things are coming." I know a bunch of you are gonna think I’m nuts but I personally like the look. So look, we all know that this movie will never live up to the original movie and quite honestly I think this movie was doomed from day one because first off they couldn’t find anyone to play Eric cuz all the guys kept backing out cuz they felt “unworthy” or didn’t think they could do the character any justice. The other reason is die hard fans of the original are never gonna give this movie a chance cuz in there minds the original is the greatest, which is true and the critics are just gonna compare the sh*t out of the two movies and pick apart every tiny detail! I will be shocked if this movie scores anything higher then a 60! So basically anyone that signed on to do this movie signed onto a god damn suicide mission. I personally don’t know how I feel about the movie so far, I mean I’ve watched the trailer over 5 times now and I’m still not sure what to think about it?! I don’t know if I’m happy with the fact that they are doing a totally different story line or if I’m mad that they changed everything except a few small details? What I do know is that if I do decide to watch the movie I have to take the movie for what it is and not compare it to the original, because if I sit there and do nothing but compare the two movies throughout the whole thing it WILL suck. So I guess my advice for people and hell for myself even is to just go into the movie with an open mind and not to compare the movies, because at the end of the day we all know the original movie is the greatest and Brandon’s version of Eric will always be the most iconic and greatest of all time. Not to mention if Brandon was alive today I don’t think he’d want his fans bashing the movie and cast.

I'm with Spardaspawn on this one. DMC was a great game. Long ago when I was too young to watch the Crow, my cousin had us watch The Crow. I liked it but most of the themes went over my head. Turns out that during the movie there is a scene with a woman who is addicted to drugs and the main character purges her body of the addiction and sends her to her daughter who needs her. What I didn’t know was that my cousin’s mother was horribly addicted to drugs and every day my cousin wished that she would be healed and he would have a normal life.

Here's a crazy tidbit. The director of the John Wick movies was in fact Brandon's stunt double in The Crow. The fill in scenes, EG walking towards the broken window after he puts the make up on where we only see his back, or any of the scenes in the apartment that were in shadow in the same scenes was him. They had such similar body types, he filled in.

They could've done something interesting with this by setting it in a different time period, e.g. The Crow set in Victorian England,etc, and having a protagonist with a different name but apparently studio suits know better. Gotta say I’ve never seen The Crow. The story of what happened to Brandon Lee is Hollywood legend/common knowledge and it just made me not want to watch the movie knowing what happened… however I liked this trailer. I thought the action looked cool. I think Bill is looking badass which is a nice contrast to the foppish villain he played in John Wick 4. This trailer sold me, but now the discourse about it not living up to the original, and your own remarks on the gothic tone and the realization that Michael Wincott is a villain in it (freaking love him in Three Musketeers) makes me want to finally watch it, so thank you for that kick in the butt. As far as him looking like Jared Leto’s joker, yeah that’s unfortunate, but I think more unfortunate for Joker which I had preconceived notions on how he should look… as far as The Crow, I’ve just seen pics of the film, the comics and this and ALL interations look like an assistant manager I’ve encountered at Hot Topic, so I can’t really say I prefer one to the other 😜

Willing to give the movie a shot. When I saw the set photos, my first thought was “Oh! They are doing The Crow: Wild Justice, not a remake of the original.” Figured maybe media outlets were confused and called it a remake….but no…it’s a remake, and the character design doesn’t match Eric Draven. But let’s see if the movie does a decent job at retelling the story. Can’t be as bad as Wicked Prayer!
