TMPanos96 Idk wtf your blabbing on abt, you’re just proving that your a sexist coming out of the closet.. You claim it’s “double standards”, when in reality it just seems you can’t stand to see a women getting her due. Not only that, you’re just proving your own point..”cringe misandrist and hypocritical women having power fantasies” really lol. As if women imagining a life were she might be in control instead of a man is so ridiculous and absurd..please explain how you’re not being hypocritical? As far as these comments you’re complaining about people saying, “Philip should understand that he’s married to the queen and should obey her and know his place.” No one in this comment section has said that?? Nor close, yet your bringing your frustration from what other people are saying over here and assuming that every woman has that same opinion.. Yet again proving your point assuming that every woman craves dominance over a man, and that every woman has the same opinions for the queen and Philips relationship. When in reality most of women just want an EQUAL understanding and respect, as if thats too much to ask. And I can assure you that I do not share the same opinions for that relationship neither, no one should be obeying anyone and his place is her husband not some servant.. Or when people said “fuck yeah” to when she gave the Prime Minister a lecture. Did you not watch the episode lmao? He deliberately lied and kept information from her, not considering the aspect of his country but denying the reality of his own health keeping his strong willed attitude believing he could still run it. Yet your mad that she gave a truthful statement abt his actions, and that people agreed w it?? No man (that isn’t sexist..) would have a problem w what she said or that people agreed w it or call it cringe, and “normal, progressive, egalitarian anti-monarchy beliefs”.. again really lol. As if favoring equality is some sort of crime, and “anti-monarchy beliefs”, wth is wrong w that not everyone believes in the monarchy.. and you say you’re not British that part is really confusing me? If that entire paragraph alone doesn’t prove your sexism then idk what does, but I’ll keep on going to prove my point. Or “Let’s not fool ourselves, “shut up and accept your position as queen consort to the king/you knew what you the deal lady/do your duty by your husband” etc. would never even occur as a thought to you.” When those are my thoughts exactly for Meghan Markle and Catherine Middleton.. Why, BECAUSE THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE GETTING INTO. Especially Meghan coming from no royal background, but Harry was smart enough to get out of that family. The Crown is proving more now than ever how hard it must be, to be in that family or to be the queen, however accurate it may be. And you say you don’t like Philip in the first 2 seasons because he “complains too much and glad he’s calmed down and accepted his duties”, yet here you go on defending him stating “No sympathizing w him for being trapped in this “archaic, outdated” system that “won’t let him be who he wants to be”. Not only are you proving your point AGAIN w the “hypocrisy and double standards”, but you’re not even giving a definite statement.. both contradict each other.. Pick a side lmao. As far as you assuming again, I actually really liked Philip in the first season and sympathized w him all throughout that season and thought Elizabeth should’ve backed off a bit, no a lot, in realizing that she’s not just the queen but also a wife, mother, and sister as Philip stated. Especially w Margaret’s situation, I’m still a bit mad abt that. So yes I did sympathize w him and thought he was rather very compassionate in the beginning, that was until he cheated on her.. All sympathies left the door as soon as that happened regardless of the responsibilities that were thrown on him I don’t think he should’ve responded to that problem by fucking someone else.. instead of talking to his wife, because I for one have no tolerance for that. Unlike most men, and women unfortunately, accepting that that’s just apart of marriage and men will be men. Or am I assuming that for you? Adultery is considered a sin in the Bible yet that was overlooked by the Church when Philip committed it, and were so persistent on keeping Margaret and Townsend from being together just because he was a divorcee avoiding a scandal to arise, yet we see the irony in that. So yes you’re right there seems to be double standards all throughout the Crown, but not in the light you’re shedding. Have you even take account for Elizabeth’s situation? Having to be thrown into that ball game as well, excuse me leading it, right after her father died not knowing what to do at all, and later realizing that she will always be one half a sister/mother/wife/, and one half as queen. So I consider you to also take a look at the women’s perspective instead of the just the men’s. Why, because you have not done that once and yet here you are going on about “double standards”. And not even by legitimate facts or statements that people has said in these comments, but just by assuming.. And I have a feeling you’re going to go on abt my rant calling it misandrist, annoying, or rather long or something along those lines. But I just have a lot to say to people that are proving their own point and don’t realize it, but “I know you’ll deny this” lol. But who knows maybe I assumed that too.. As far as me, I’m not British either, nor a feminist, nor a misandrist. I rather adore men, respectful ones and gentlemen if you will, they are the gems of this earth and we could use a lot more of them. I just don’t care for disrespect ones, and don’t mind calling them out on it.. But I’m still open to the conversation and hope you can prove me otherwise. (I appreciate to anyone that’s made it to the end of this, I apologize for the length lol)

@@CosmicTeapot It's a very good question. What were Phillip (and his uncle Lord Mountbatten) really thinking? It should have been clear that Phillip would be nothing but an adjunct to his wife -- the Prince Consort. The closest thing was Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, I guess. Albert had some power behind the scenes, but publicly his wife was the face of the monarchy. Problem is, a hundred plus years later, all that was left for the monarchy was ceremonial. When Elizabeth ascended the throne, all the power was in the hands of the government, mainly the PM. That left little for someone like Phillip to do but be an appendage to his wife.

ORxven no I’ve been on the receiving end of a Prince Phillip comment/joke about my hair when I met him both of the two times I’ve met him, he most likely did say something like this to his wife/The Queen about her hair! He was running late and after he apologised (he apologised to everyone personally because he was nearly two hours late.) he asked me if I had gotten bored waiting? I said no why? He replied it looks like you Raided the colour pen drawer and decided to use your hair as a colouring picture book, couldn’t you decide on one colour? I burst out laughing because he started laughing. At the time I had red, purple, blue and black hair all laying over one another and not the bright pastel colours everyone has now days mine was dark versions of the colours. He was at college to open our brand new performing Arts centre and brand new theatre, Nottingham traffic wasn’t the easiest thing to get through at the time. If you needed to be anywhere you would have been better living close by or leaving a few hours earlier to get to where you needed to be on time. Then I saw him a few years later when I was performing for the RSC and he did remember me he remembered two tattoos I’ve got what they meant and both reasons why I’ve got them in the places I’ve got them and it was almost 7 years since we first met so I was really shocked he actually remembered me, especially my tattoos and the reason I have them. and then I only had half and half coloured hair I had purple on the top and blue/black underneath and he just said to me “you still haven’t decided on just one colour yet?” And spoke to me about other things, and congratulated me for passing my college and university exams and asking how I was getting on working at the RSC etc... so yes I can actually see Phillip saying this. He absolutely has the right to be honest about what he finds attractive and if she does something to herself that he doesn't find attractive any spouse has the right to mention that to their spouse. It runs along the same lines as telling your spouse what turns you on and what doesn't. You have to have open communication about that. If they do something to themselves that you don't find attractive it's best to let them know.

I think Philip has always known and was ready for giving up everything to always walk a few step behind the Queen, but not so soon. No one at the time expected King George VI to die that soon after their marriage. George VI was only 56 at the time of death. The Windsor monarchs before him all had pretty long lives. Victoria died at 81, Edward VII at 68, George V at 70. Philip, when he proposed to Elizabeth, probably calculated that by the time that Elizabeth ascend to the throne they would probably be in their 40s or 50s. Given that Philip was already Commander in the navy at the age of 30 and his very good family connections, it was very realistic for him to make vice-admiral if not admiral in another 20 years. And before that the first twenty to thirty years it was always his career first. He was no doubt an ambitious and capable man. And he could well have been one of youngest admirals in English history. He probably thought he could have proven to the world that he is his own man before the Elizabeth even become queen. But then the King George VI suddenly died.

They definitely softened Philip in season 3. I heard the real Queen complained when she watched it they didn’t show Philip correctly. She thought he was too mean in this than he was in real life. Maybe the writers thought they should soften him for the Queens sake!

@Margaret Gust Philip speaks his mind and in most cases speaks the truth. He was not the only one concerned about Charles. Him becoming king has worried people for a long time and still does to this day.
