I can relate to that. I love making people smile and last November I sent a dear friend of mine some candy I brought from canada and without telling her I Included a little marking knife I made completely by hand. The blade was handmade from an old sawblade from the 70s, formed with nothing but a file, badly drilled holes for brass pins because I didn't have a center punch, heat treated by myself with a cheap blowtorch... And it wasn't even that good. But I put some thought in it and saw it as a learning experience. Her reaction when she got the package was just priceless. Also because I made the handle out of an old window frame made of some tropical wood and a middle piece out of maple. You know... because canada and stuff. This here reminded me of that and just made me smile :)

Dude, this is incredible. This goes way WAAAY beyond woodworking. Thanks for making content that's not just "10 greatest tools", "the best workbench", "amazing coffee table with a secret"... It's really refreshing to watch a woodworking-focused channel that also explores a lot of meta-woodworking topics and the community on a larger scale beyond just projects and building (like in your last video! Not much straight up woodworking comedy out there!)

My corner of Norway is cold and windy today, to the extent that I sat down here to procrastinate the marrying of my track and new saw. I did not expect a reminder to be mindfull and put in that grain of care that can bring about change. Thank you. That turned my sour mood and gave me a slight spring to my step and I will now use that to go do something I have put off for a while.

Thank you so much for making this video. You've reminded me of something vitally important that I sometimes forget, which is that underpromising and overdelivering are important in how we treat ourselves as well as I'm how we serve others. When we treat ourselves with the same kindness and generosity that we share with others, we enlarge the cup rather than just overflowing it. Thank you for a beautiful and unexpected gift!

Oh, Man! I have watched many of your videos over the past few days. I liked everything. Until this one. It just blew my mind when I realized how high you raised the bar for storytelling. You have climbed to the top of my list of talented KZfaqrs. You put so much emotional content in what could be a boring box-opening video. You create strong stories much more than carpentry projects and this is what KZfaq misses the most. Thank you for your excellent work.

Shun knives have been including bandaids in their packages for a few years now. I think [But am not certain] it began with their “Scary Sharp” marketing campaign/ slogan. Not sure if your guy was before them, but it’s certainly possible. Anything that gets you out of “I just received a new toy, I need to use it right now” mode and makes you think, “Wait a minute, this can hurt me and others, let’s have a solid plan of action first.” Is a win in my book. Cheers!

Great vid. Made me smile, which is almost as good as a laugh. (your last one did that). And fellow wood crafters: always, always, add a few business cards and a thank you note to any product you mail out. It's a touch like that they brings back clients, and the extra cards can be given by them to friends that ask about the product. Learned that as a business service provider when we used to send big reports to clients by mail (now with mostly email and electronic delivery, it doesn't happen as much)

Just found your You Tube channel......great advice and your delivery is outstanding. The story of the band aid reminds me of how hard I laughed years ago when I unpackaged my Tormek sharpening system. Laying in the bottom of the box was a small yellow plastic folder...... and sure enough, there were a couple of band aids inside. Humor is a wonderful marketing strategy. I immediately stapled it to the pegboard tool holder at my work bench to remind myself to be safe. Keep up the excellent videos.

Great story and a perfect example of something I have been trying to get my small circle to to simply embrace over the years. An idea I refer to as 'G.A.S.', and how world changing it could be if the concept was embraced on a global scale. The basic concept of how much better everything is, from the smallest to the greatest, simply 'Giving A Sh*t' about that which you're engaged in. Simply adding a bit of G.A.S. to everything one does, especially for others, could be a shift of attitude that can move everyone for the better. Work, personal life, everything. Use your turn signal, hold a door, don't toss trash out of your window, return the cart, smile in simple acknowledgment of another human being, wipe the sink, on and on. Folks laugh but how often are these careless and selfish acts an unnecessary irritant. Also effectively applied in your job, no matter what that is. Just G.A.S. and go...

This was fantastic, thank you! I’ve been working on my side hustle and am finally getting traction but have struggled with some of the things you mentioned in this video. This has given me so many ideas. Thank you for this video. BTW, thanks also for all of your creativity. I bought a cheap WEN track saw this past summer because I occasionally need one for rough cuts and didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I bought one of your 3d printed caps for it hoping to manage the dust collection a little bit. It is now one of the best tools in my shop as far as dust collection out-performing many high-end tools that I use much more often. It took a tool that I anticipated being a throw away and made it into something enjoyable to use. Keep doing what you do!

Thank you Matt! The wen isn’t so bad. I was hard on it. It’s a great saw for what you’re looking for.

Drew, I can certainly see why you're an effective Pastor as well as a Primo Maker of Stuff, including videos. You compose-and flawlessly deliver-an awesome, awesome sermon. Engaging, entertaining, deep, profoundly personal and yet universally applicable. Wonderful, wonderful episode. Thanks again, Drew.

My dad always said to sign things with blue ink…granted that was before color printers and copiers were ubiquitous but he said it was an added measure to show it wasn’t xeroxed.

The other thing about Kevin is also how he puts so much content out there about how he makes things. I bought a lathe just like his, and while I haven't replicated is process, I feel like maybe I could now! He's an inspiration in more ways than one.

A lesson that's valid in all of the things we do in life: Hold that door, offer to take someone's cart up for them, pay for someone's coffee, etc, etc. You don't know where those people are in life, nor what a small blessing could mean to them. Thanks for sharing, Merry Christmas, and God Bless.

Just let me say how i enjoy your delivery, and how great you are as a storyteller!! You do make me laugh also with the repetitive "that's not the detail", so thank you for that. Looking forward for the next one.

For a while, I led a charitable organization to help Veterans. I always tried to use the same philosophy while running it. I have always believed that people will raise or lower themselves to whatever level you set the bar. Even on an individual basis, it you set a high bar for how you treat and interact with people, you will raise yourself to that level. If you seek to under promise and over deliver in all aspects of your life, you and everyone around you benefit.

That was an amazing story, and very thoughtful insight you shared with us. Your content is awesome and much appreciated by many of us. And it doesn’t hurt that you’re from San Antonio lol, born and raised myself in SA and currently reside here now. I’ll be sure to reflect on your words and under promise and over deliver on my next projects I have in the works. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
