@@Timetravel1111 Hey. So my main belief would be Asatru. However, i am an Athiest and believe we all become part of the earth when we pass away and that their isnt a higher power so to say. The higher power is in us, be it imagination or a soul calling. But if i had to pick a region to follow, Asatru resonates the most with me.

In Scandinavian folklore, Mares and Werewolves were created if a woman used magic to ease birth. Mares if they were Female, and Werewolves if they were Male. Clever way to dissuade Freyja’s magical practice.

I really, really enjoyed your lecture. For many years I feel a deep connection with Freyja and Freyr. Objects and runic inscriptions that refer to their worship were found near the village of Wijnaldum, once an early medieval central place where a part of my ancestors came from. Maybe it's why they feel so formiliar to me. Any new perspective or information on them is welcome. In the excavations in the early nineties there, cremation remains showed that some women were cremated with (water)birds (at least their wings). Also cauri shells turn up (lausnar steinar?) Curious if you also see a link with burial rituals in Sweden and the cult of Freyja. Thsnk you for still sharing precious information Arith. Tige tank!

another great vid, glad to have found this channel. as I commented on another video, some people from Norway went to Sweden to form Jämtland. Here is also Frösön - Frej's Island. On this island there is a church, and ofc archeologist have found a stump of a tree under this church, with lots and lots of offerings around it. But as you point out in the video, the Jämt's were not that easily converted, as this text shows; "In the beginning of the Christian doctrine's entry into the village, Norrviksborne were very wicked, why the priest in the town vehemently reproached them for their evil. In anger over the Norrviks, in agreement with the inhabitants of Sörviken (Grönviken's), took the priest and rowed him out to a large, over. water-raising stone, in the middle of the lake between Norrviken and Sörviken, which today is called the Prieststone, put the priest on the stone and left him there, the intention was to let him starve to death. [1] But the priest was swimmersome and swam ashore at Monäset (previously also called "Mordnäset"). [1] The Norrvik residents, however, had been alerted to him, and fit him at the beach where they killed him. For this reason, the village was forever carrying the nasty name Mordviken". The only proper way to treat a christian, really... Sad really, what could have been instead of some magical desert god taking hold of our minds. all because of greed.

In Britain I don't think that the horse was sacrificed as the animal was reveered by the ancient Britons. There are still "White Horses", figures of horses carved out of the turf on chalky hillsides in the countryside. Arith when you say plough please say it as plow, to rhyme with now. We have some strange variations in our pronunciation that can be confusing.

Who lived in Scandinavia before Germanic people came? France had Gauls before Franks, Briton had Britons before Anglo Saxons, but I've never heard of any pre Germanic Scandinavian people. Might the Vanir been the gods of the pre Germanics and the Asir were the Norse version of Germanic gods?

I have a similar theory of the Greek Pantheon. 1) There are the Minoan Greeks who wrote in the language linear A. The Minoan Greeks like Pompeii was discovered under Ash. 2) The Mycenaean Greeks wrote in Linear B. That Civilization ended with the Mediterranean Bronze Age collapse. 3) The Archaic and Classical Greeks then took over. There have been the names of Greek Gods in Linear B but Poseidon was King God. So, they had different roles. First Generation Gods were ruled by Sky and Gaia Second Generation Gods are the Titans Third Generation Gods are the Olympians and

Went to Freyja School [🇸🇪 Frejaskolan, 6 years], after Framnäs [🇸🇪 ] School [3 years, not sure how to interpret «Fram» into 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, may be something like Freyr’s Isthmus’ School, at least it makes sense geographically, the closest smallholding is Freyr’s Isthmus [🇸🇪Frönäs], some of my closest ancestors are buried very close in the soil at the cemetery around Frustuna [🇸🇪] kyrka [🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Freyr’s Smallholding’s /Smallholders’ Church [where I was christened etc.] Everything in Gnesta Municipality by Lake Freyr/Freyr’s Lake [🇸🇪 Frösjön], quite far from the old Svea Kingdoms Centres Uppsala and Västerås/Västra Aros[🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿West Aros]. Obviously several of the modern 🇸🇪 names ⬆️ in Gnesta - more or less - at least linguistically, are quite closely connected to the Freyja and Freyr cults - so I’m also like connected to some of its mycelia. I found it interesting that, while Freyr was buried at Uppsala, Sweden remained safe. This has an English parallel in the burial of the head of Bran and (I believe I am correct in this), later, the protective burial of Arthur. They watched over that land as did Freyr. However, wasn't it a bit strange thinking their God was actually buried there? Or was it symbolic, like the Eucharist?
6 жыл бұрын
n the case of Freyr I don't think it was symbolic because a couple of tales and sagas and even historical accounts say that Freyr was once a King of Sweden who started the Ynglinga royal line, and his reign was one of peace and prosperity and so when he died they buried him and started to worship him. This may, or may not, be Celtic influence. Many of the Celtic gods had once been human. We can even find similarities with Odin himself, although he wasn't a Scandinavian god, but his tale of almost dying while on Yggdrasil may be a distant memory to someone of great importance in the Germanic societies, or his sacrifices are just the representation of ritualistic sacrifices to his own cult (Stabbing, Hanging and Drowning (not by this order)).

I didn’t know Thor was considered the god of the English? Could I ask where you read that? Not criticising, great video again. Keep up the great work, you’ll get more subscribers
6 жыл бұрын
Oh yes good question, thank you ^^ Well, Thor is a Scandinavian god, but before the germanic tribes introduced certain cults in Scandinavia (just like the cult of Odin), Thor firstly was the god of the Germans, named Donar. Before the Viking Raids the Anglo-Saxons brought their god to England and Donar/Thor remained the main deity of the Anglo-Saxons in England.

The kings and queens were considered to be incarnations of the gods [avatars], or at the very least were considered to be holy/heiliger. The titles waned and grew depending on the gods and people at the time, but the gods exist outside of the rulership. Please be more apt on the religious aspects rather than the informational aspects; if you could combine the two, that'd make for a great info piece.
