The Norse god Freyr is often depicted as a pure fertility deity; the Scandinavian god of Agriculture. But he was once a Divine Lord, a King-God, the embodiment of the perfect-ruler ideology.

Several years ago, i saved up my money and visited norway (where my family is from and my gma used to go each year) the first or second night i slept there on the Fjord where my families homes are in elderbakken (near Tromso) i had a dream. I was standing on a beautiful mountain and i had a long flowing white dress and I was in the middle of a wedding line.. It was wonderful expect my to be husband to be was a Boar and the wedding party consisted of non human creatures of whom had antlers.. Yet they were wearing clothes. When i saw my husband was a boar i got very sad... For years this dream has been mysterious to me..Not until recently ive been researching the Norse Gods and I descovered Freyr and his association with the boar!!!! This dream was so real.. I know he must have paid me a visit. Any ideas what it could mean???

I have just found you, and am very grateful to you for your choosing to share You definitely have a talent for sharing, and your passion for the subject is plain to see I have just subbed and will be working my way through what ever other videos you have It is especially nice to have some information of the Vanir, so many of the books and videos seem to focus on the Aesir and thats fine, but its nice to find stuff about the Vanir. Since i was drawn to the old gods several years back, i have felt more affection for the Vanir than the Aesir though i do speak to them all I have thus far avoided getting involved in any of the recreated/rekindled versions of this faith, as i wanted to find my own way, and once i was sure it was the right way, then check up with how other people choose to venerate them Keep up the good work

Yet another home run, I never really paid attention to Freyr. But thanks to you I am so excited and chomping at the Bit (no pun intended) And and bounty, So I ask to, should I rember to say a prayer and sacrifices before a hunt. I have so many questions. By the te way I'm getting the book you subjected in your last video to more books I'll be getting more in on Tuesday, the what O xlwanted for my birthday. By the way I hope your feeling better. I'm going to my tattoo guy,to many Identity politics, So I'm going where ignoreing the rest of the office chatter. Be well my friends, cheers.

Thank you friend. People often say prayers to Freyr when they kill livestock animals, wilds animals I would recommend Skadi and Ullr which eventually I will talk about in this channel hehe ^^ but yeah those two deities are better for hunters especially during hard seasons such as in winter. Freyr is more for agriculture nowadays, farmers, herders etc. but as I say in the video, he was once seen as a Divine Lord and Warrior-Chieftain, so you might come up with something other then just for agriculture purposes ^^ Good luck with your tattoo btw :D

Hi, great video. I have read on wikipedia that Yngvi is the older name used for god Freyr. Do you agree with this?

Yngvi was the name given to Freyr by the Anglo-Saxons of what would later be called England. England means Yngvi-Land, the Land of Yngvi, or in this case, the Land of Freyr.

Ingvi was their Main god, hence being Angles, and vs Versa. Although when the northern continental germanic tribes came to the British Isles, the god that kept all the tribes united under Anglo-Saxons, was Donar - Thor.

i felt resemblance of freyr into (bock saga's) moon king seppo ilmarinen, also ior mentioned about the first humans on earth would've been called (in vaan as) sampo and aino, or (in root as) frei and freia (together as frö, 'seed'). sampo became the first allfader and aino became the first allmoder. if someone wants too see if there's any relevance between bock saga and nordic ones, here's a little about the first humanbeings, gods as they now are called, and the familytree (according to bock saga). sampo became the first pukki lemminkäinen (buck balder) and aino became the first joutsen (svan, swan), svan gave birth from lemminkäinen's sperm to 7 daughters and 12 boys. the first boy to turn 27 became seppo ilmarinen, he was /ra/, kuningas, king.. and the first daughter to turn 27 would become maija ilmatar, the queen of earthly humans. when 12th son of the first lemminkäinen (balder) turned 27, he became the new lemminkäinen. this is when the old lemminkäinen became ukko väinämöinen (pär), and the old svan became akka, ella.. then in all ring lands was picked the most healthy and beautiful woman and from them lemminkäinen picked the most healthy and beautiful one to become the new svan.. svan came from among the vaans (vaaner), that's where her name came [es va:n].. sampo and aino were born in a 'miracle' /odenting, luonnon ihme, on an island of uuden (oden) in paradis time era, it was located on earth's north pole, aas-hel.. the family of bucks (bock family) were called aser, living in [a:s hel] in [a:s gård].. from them stem the tree of human beings.. oden has always been and alwasy will be, o is the sun.. we're frö of our allfaders, and everything on earth can be seen as frö of oden.. uuden maa (oden land) can still be seen in maps on the are of modern day helsinki.. there's much to the saga, and as it is an oral saga, it should be heard rather than read.. thankfully mr ior bock made some interviews and there are people who tell it too.. hearable even in youtube. thanks for another good vid!

When they call Freyr God of this world , does it not refer to the fact we are all reliant upon the produce of the Earth , the fertility of the Earth. Freyr being the ruler of Alfheim can rule the land wights, therefore the produce and fertility of the Earth. As you say he can be the warrior of peace , maintenance of order ,and the uninterrupted agricultural year As we know war will disrupt this and cause famine. Like any ruler his responsibility to his people is to create favourable conditions for happy peaceful productive life, ensuring the Earth energies are converted to comfort , prosperity , wealth. Ensuring perfect conditions for the growth of the next generation. Thank you for your video s, very informative down to earth ,and real.I would like it if you could do one on the Earth land wights and their roles and effects on agricultural production. Here in Australia , the indeginous people have a very , very , strong worship of what we as European heathens call Land wights. They have many different land maintenance rituals to ensure the production of the wild foods , health of biosystems etc.We therefore have a very active and influential host of Landwights here. In my experience the wights don't mind Our way of showing respect.Any way ,thank you again , and I'd love to see a vid and here your knowledge of the Landwights.

Is it known approximately when the cult of Odin was first introduced to Scandinavia? I've not found any clear information on it as of yet but have always theorized that the story of the war between the Vanir and Aesir likely related to real world events. The Aesir being introduced to the lands of the Vanir via an event of human migration (possibly as early as the Battle Axe Culture?). This is totally just a guess theory as I haven't found much to verify this one way or another so the more minds about it the better :)

I must ask you Why do you call them cults? I follow the Ancient Ones however Ive never felt more drawn to Freyr than ever thus why I watched this. Yet everytime I try to "connect" or follow Odin I do not feel okay or positivity wearing supposed valknuts or other "odinic" symbols. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
5 жыл бұрын
I call Cults to differentiate from the main worshipping. For instance, there was the worshipping of Freyja, but within that there were different cults to Freyja, some for fertility, some focused on magic, some focused on feline magic etc. Cults are like branches of the main worship. In the case of Thor, yet another example, the were Cults involving human sacrifice, there were ceremonies where Thor was called upon, and then there was the general worship of Thor either individually or with other deities.

This is interesting but is it a solely European thing for hero's to become gods?
Жыл бұрын
Thank you. No, it isn't. There are several cultures whose mythical heroes become deities or at least included in types of worship. These can be humans turned into deities or deities who become mythic heroes, or legendary heroes either whose parents are divine or one of the parents is a deity. Some examples such as Ninigi, grandson of Amaterasu, the Japanese sun Goddess; Hayk, the legendary hero from Armenia; Moshanyana, the warrior hero and chief of the Basuto people of Southern Africa; Glooscap, a shapeshifting trickster-hero of many Native American forest peoples; Kintu, of the Buganda people of Uganda in East Africa.
