The Dallas Stars pull out a gritty 4-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights in game four and tie the series at two games a piece heading back to Dallas. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey breaks down the defensive clinic the Stars put on in the 3rd period to shut down the Vegas attack and close out the win. Amazing performances from defenseman Chris Tanev and Esa Lindell who both had four blocks and led the stand in the third. We also discuss the incredible shift from Roope Hintz that led to his eventual empty net goal to seal the win. Joey goes on to talk about the adversity the Stars went through in the regular season with injuries to Miro Heiskanen and Jake Oettinger, and how we are starting to see the impact and resilience in this series. To finish off the recap, Joey goes into the chess match between Pete DeBoer and Bruce Cassidy heading into game five. Both teams know how to shut one another down, but now it feels like a game of adjustments and Dallas has the edge in the last two games.

@@zrichards907 I think the reason for the reaction is because the stars are viewed as a little less physical than they should be. So, it was good to see Benn let Vegas know that there was a price for running Stanky. You miss the Aces??….. I do.

I’ve been kinda critical about Otter’s consistency all season but the one thing that you can’t deny is he can be a brick wall when he needs to be and he showed that tonight. I didn’t like how Dallas was trying to play passive and conservative when Vegas was going full forecheck on them in the 3rd. But they were great defensively. I felt nauseous just watching but Otter was definitely the playoff hero of the game imo.

The Stars defence was great at the end there, kept everything to the outside, so the saves were easier for Otter. Only a couple close range, dangerous chances, where Otter has to come in clutch. Was great to see.

I agree. Idk why you play to protect a 1 goal lead against a team like Vegas, or any team. They should’ve stayed aggressive but thankfully Otter played up to his standards! Let’s go Stars!⭐️🦦

We beat them at their own game tonight. We can do that twice more. I think Vegas is the team that is most like us. They hit a lot more, which i think ultimately hurts their game and slows it down. But Dallas is formidable, and none of the other teams play like we do. There's a lot of hunger where the old legs should be. No need to get ahead of wednesday, so we can talk potential opponents when it's appropriate. Forgot how crafty ol Dads can be. That shot was insane. Go Stars!

I am a Rangers fan, don’t watch many Stars games, but this one was amazing. What impressed me the most is how Dallas took no penalties. Never seen a team be that good at avoiding penalties.

Otter definitely turned into a brick 🧱 was as the game progressed especially in the third period. Having five defenders playing their hearts out really helped him out as well, the 5 man D corp works it’s been effective. They didn’t allow the VGK to crawl back into the game after the 3rd goal was scored. The Stars were also continually firing pucks at Logan Thompson. I think they’ve found a formula for success if they can just keep it up for a couple more games. People have forgotten that they scored 113 points in the regular season the second most in the NHL, maybe they forgot.

Another great break down buddy! I agree with your take almost verbatim. My confidence with Otter has been almost nill since mid last season and I started to think he's just not that guy. That he wasn't up to the challenge but he's starting to get something going and maybe this is the turning point...I truly hope so. The other issue has been the lack of offense from the Star players on the top 2 lines in this series. Your best players have to be your best players to make a run for the cup. Hope to see Robo, Hintz, playoff Pavelski and Duchesne finally get it going and start lighting the lamp and contributing on a greater level. Let's go!!!!!!!!!

Hes slow as shit. Vegas doesn't give you alot of time and Pavelski just cannot keep up. He needs to be on the 3rd line

Pavelski was clutch in the third period, he played great shutdown hockey. Guy blocked multiple shots, whenever he got the puck in their end he got it out cleanly without icing it. I thought he was very impressive, on the defensive side of things.

I love Joe, I think he's been awesome for us ever since he got here. But the first line is made to be your main offensive push, until he shows otherwise he should be moved and slot Johnson on the top line

I love Joe, but dude is a joke this round Just unbelievably stupid plays with the puck and almost gifted Vegas an odd man rush in the final moments because he passed instead of shot at the empty net. So here's my beef with the way the 3rd period went down...I've seen this team lose plenty of games the EXACT SAME WAY THEY BEAT VEGAS LAST NIGHT, and the teams we lost to in the regular season were way less talented than the Golden Knights...if I'm coaching the Stars, I make sure my defenseman stay at the blue line and play very reserved so that if an odd man rush occurs, at least I can defend it with 2 - 3 players, but in no way, shape, nor form do I tell my team to play defense for the entire 3rd period and let the Golden Knights come at me offensively WITH A ONE GOAL LEAD...2 goal lead yes I try to protect that lead for the win as the Stars did last night, but my GAAAWD did they ever take a huge risk trying to protect a one goal lead...Vegas 9 out of 10 times is waaaayyy too potent offensively to think that you can survive a 3rd period playing defense only...we got away with it last night, but I wouldn't go to the well too many times with that type of strategy thinking you can shut them down...we're currently rotating 5 defenseman...4 during crunch time because Nills Lundqvist is too small to play against Vegas...our defenseman are taking a physical beating all game which is why it's risky to play this way...GLAD WE WON...HUGE WIN...BUT I DON'T SUGGEST THEY TRY THAT AGAIN WITH A ONE GOAL LEAD!!

I said the same thing last night. Why not go try to net another one THEN play defense like that? At the very least if you don't score another, you have the puck on the other end of the ice for a few minutes. Like you said keep your defenseman soft on the blue line and have your other guys go try to score. I was a tense ball of nerves that entire 3rd!

Great win! But it is a serious mistake to go with 5 D's game after game intentionally. If you don't want to play Lundquist put Derrick Poulin as a 6th D even if he plays only 12 minutes. He has NHL playoff experience and is a bigger body which is a better fit against Vegas. DON'T wear down your defense core in the 1st series!!! Very bad idea and with consequences. Stankoven did not play the end of the 3rd... Colorado will be as tough as Vegas for the Stars even though they are a different beast.

Let´s hope the trend of the road team winning continues. If it does, advantage Vegas!!! We´re down to a best of 3. These two teams are neck and neck with each other. Both so good in all facets. It seemed like Game 4 had Dallas getting the greasy, dirty goals. Good on them, they definitely earned the win. Let´s hope we can come back and retake the lead. Go KNIGHTS Go!!!
