Scott Salem (Scott the Engineer) was a 30 plus year loyal employee and frequent on air member of stern’s staff. His wife of 30 plus years who also appeared on air occasionally was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Scott was forced to start a GoFundMe to help with the extreme expenses associated with her illness. Scott was trying to raise $50,000. Howard not only flat out refused to mention the GoFundMe to his audience, he penalized Scott for mentioning his fundraising efforts on other Sirius shows and social media. Howard took this as a direct insult. Rather than donate the 50k to Scott which is essentially pocket change to Howard, he demoted Scott and had him removed from the stern compound. Howard also scrubbed Scott from any and all show bits and would not allow his name to be mentioned by any staff member ever. Scott’s wife succumb to her illness and passed away. Even though Howard did everything in his power to prevent Scott from raising the money, the fans came through and Scott reached the 50k goal. Howard then instructed the despicable cult leader Marci Turk, who controls the entire current stern show content and staff, to fire Scott and eliminate his association with Sirius altogether. Howard is a truly vile human being.

He also knows that Rogan gained his position at the top with merit and without resorting to extreme shock tactics for attention. While Stern may have talent with interviews, comedy, and as a radio host, that's not why he made it to the top and he knows it. Two reasons I'll always hate people that try to "reinvent their image" later in life is, 1. This reinvention never comes when they are at their zenith of popularity. It always comes way after this are washed up in terms of popularity. 2. Instead of making up for decades of being a piece of shit, they instead act like a moral arbiter choosing instead to criticize younger people who do the same dumb shit they once did. They literally pull up the ladder from younger people who haven't learned decades of lessons like they have. Howard Stern is firmly on fraud watch.

Exactly. Are we meant to revere him because after 40 years of being an asshole, he’s said “you know, I was a bit of an asshole. Being an asshole is bad guys, don’t do it”. The bar is in hell. If he’s that ashamed of his work, he could use his billions to buy back his catalog and have it taken out of public reach. Take it offline. Do something that would actually be of personal cost to him. Instead, as you say, he continues to enjoy the fruit of his shameful labour while lecturing others about behaving shamefully. Minimally, he could quit his job. You can’t be that ashamed if you’re still doing the same job.

I think one thing that inevitably led to his downfall was the massive increase in brash media figures as time went on. When Stern first hit the airwaves no one was as raw as he was, but these days he's just lost in an ocean of content creators who are more extreme than he ever would be. Regardless of what Stern does or say, his novelty is long gone in the modern Information Era.
@buffalo.blackk

Wrong! He moved to Sirius Radio. The content was behind a paywall with less only a couple million subscribers. He signed a $500M deal with Sirius over 5 years. And less than a year later KZfaq was founded. He chose the wrong platform. That was his downfall. Having a closed platform meant his show could not stay as big or continue to grow.

Hate to break it to you, but the mere mention of the N word wasn't verboten back then. It was never a classy word to say, but the fact we're saying "N word" instead of the actual word, is inspired by the Michael Richards on-stage meltdown. Black leaders insisted they don't ever want to hear the word spoken. Most of us are fine with that, what's one word out of our vocabulary to make peace with the word's ugliness. Thing is, unless you were directing it at someone in particular, it wasn't a cancel situation back then. People could use it in all sorts of contexts, including skits. The Stern show wasn't unique in that respect. When Howard had Black community leaders on his show after the Richards rant, he agreed he would not mention the word on his show anymore, and all content with the word would no longer be played. Hell, they used to intro post-breaks with really racist hillbilly music ("The house next door to me's been sold to N..."), it was a totally different time. The words that aren't allowed now, were contextually acceptable in all public media. What we call the "R word" was used by doctors on news broadcasts, the slurs of that time are forbidden words now. Context is important. Back in the 60s & 70s, "blackface" was crude but not cancel-culture. Not saying things aren't better now, they are - but it wasn't malicious back then. Your grandparents' conversations in the old days would blow your hair back today.

In those days, sometimes, the N word was even used to show that one is not racist against black people, to show that one can mix with black people to adopt black culture (as the N word was used by black people to mean a brotherly term of affinity, even black people themselves forgot the historical demeaning nature of the word)... its always been this way when one wishes to show respect for another culture, you adopt that culture's practices. Its like when you visit a traditional japanese home, you take off your shoes ... and the historical context of the N word was not a widely known thing back then, some words lost its former meaning until its brought up again in a big way, its all about context ... its illogical and unjustified to demonise someone by disregarding the circumstances that those people existed in ...

You left out some of the most important moments of Stern's speech to his own staff at 30:30. He literally admits in that speech that they're trying to sway his long-time lingering average-joe right-leaning male audience to vote demo.crat, and highlight programming that propagates such leanings, even mentioning trying to get his audience to think left is now officially a goal of the show. That was the single most interesting part of that leaked video that explains EXACTLY why he switched his entire public personality so quickly and drastically, and why he so desperately wants everyone to know how far left he and the entire 'Stern brand' is every two seconds. Aka, why he reads so incredibly fake and disingenuous to anyone paying attention.

Staffers that openly admitted to sexual assaults on air, There is a lot to his rise and fall (If anyone does a real breakdown it has to be 4+ hours(He only had that come to Jesus moment due to The #MeTooMovement) He knew he had a lot of skeletons in his closet was more than likely given a heads up before the movement ignited (Stern was also good friends with Harvey Weinstein) Stern was never a rebel it was all a long con (he always wanted to sit at the cool kids table in school)

Howard was an escape for the common man and it was probably somewhat therapeutic. Probably did as much good if not more for people than bad. This video is following the trend of vilifying anything from the past. It points out the sick people the show attracted but when you’re that big it’s inevitable all kinds of people will tune in. Howard was a peak entertainer and to look at it through the “his show was wrong and disturbing” lense is narrow minded and irresponsible going forward.

@@KokoTheGorilla69 Not my picture, not my reply, but that's the most irrational assumption I've seen all year. I've been watching anime since the late-90's when it was on the sci-fi channel every saturday morning. It started in '95 but I didn't catch it until at least '97. And again on toonami (cartoon network) when dragonball and sailor moon were on the afterschool time slot, starting in 1998. I was 16 at the time. Sailor Moon was on the usa network a year prior to that when I was about 15. Point I'm trying to make is there's lot of us in our late-30's to mid-40's who still watch anime. It's specious to assume how old somebody is by their avatar, so it looks you're just going to have to find another way to insult a random stranger on the internet for their opinion. And knock it off with that emoji, because that's what old people are doing. You're not old, are you? You must be old, only old people use that. See where I'm going with this?
