I'm not sure if I missed it or not, yet the fact that the legion didn't want to be sent to the abbys and made a request, thinking it was the best attempt to stay above ground. The short answer is the demons would've been chained until the end of the Age, if Jesus would have casted them out. But the demon asked not to be destroyed before their time. Instead, when the pigs died the demons were able to roam the earth once again. Their job was to lead people to hell. Jesus came to save the children of Israel first, then all the gentiles who accept Him as Savior. So, even though those demons are still roaming, those who accept Jesus are saved.
