- If you want the front lever, first build up to 40kg pull ups 3-5 reps - If you want the full planche, first build up to 5-10 full ROM Handstand pushups - When it comes to short/long rest, it's not always about volume, you just need more volume than the previous week, but also the stamina. For example if you rest 1 minute you go from 5 reps front lever pull up to 2-1-1-1 then you need to train for stamina - Does greasing the goose better than normal set, it depends on the exercise, you don't want maltese press, victorian, but with front lever, front lever pull ups, normal pull ups, handstand push up it can be worked - Do you need hypertrophy to build strength, yes, you need muscle to build strength, you need an amount of muscle to gain strength and when you use the full strength potential of that amount of muscle mass, you need more muscle mass for greater strength - Your thought on specificity over prerequisite: why, you need to follow steps, don't do shortcut - Can you unlock skill without specificity: yes, if you can do supinate planche and back lever curl, it will transfer to maltese, maybe you just need 1-2 more months to train some specific drills - Can you use bands instead of progression: don't recommend heavy bands, only recommend light bands when you are pretty close to that skill - How to use band correctly: you hold the skill in beginning sets, then the other last sets you use band - How much volume you generally need: if you do 5-10s per set, you need 30-60s total volume - His diet advice: you want to be light before workout so take a banana instead of tons of processed food so it can affect your performance, after working out he will have big meals - How much intensity you should train: around 85-90% it's 3-5 rep max for pure strength, it can be lighter for endurance and stamina - Do you think heavy bands is good for mind muscle connection or it is false progression sense: I've seen people done it, but I wouldn't do it. When warming up with bands I can imagine something for the skill. I just do the skill as second nature, it's muscle memory. In conclusion, I wouldn't do it - If you only want Iron cross, should you do front lever, planche then train for iron cross or only train for iron cross in the beginning: I would do basics then iron cross only, but I think there's sone skill should be mastered before others. In the skill tree, you have front lever -> front lever pull up -> victorian on pbar-> vic on rings

Im cureently training to unlock front lever with my max being a meh form half-lay front lever. How can I use this stamina trick and how does it work it's sort of confusing for me, and should I even use it (i.e. I can only do it when I unlock full front lever?)

The transfer from a raise to a pull-up makes perfect sense, because it is the same extension in the shoulder. only the load arm becomes shorter for the raises and therefore the raises are easier (like a progression). Most people just don't understand the mechanic.

Damn, amazing video. Glad you asked him about Elias’ training. It’s almost like there are different schools of thought in calisthenics, just like in barbell strength training with all sorts of templates on how to approach training - bands, progressions and something in between.

Hello, first of all I wanted to say that I really appreciate this interview. I have one slight disagreement with the weighted pullup->front lever part: David said that at a bodyweight of 75kg, if you are able to pull 40kg for 3-5 reps, you are guaranteed to have a 2s front lever. Those are exactly my stats, except I can pull 40 for 3 sets x 6 reps, and I can barely do a straddle lever for 1 second (you can check my pullup form on my channel). My theory is that because of my history of running, I have much bigger legs than the average calisthenics athlete, and I am also slightly taller (5'10), and those 2 factors make my lever harder. Do you have any other theory as to why I am not able to perform the FL? And what do I need to do to get it?
@Jim-rs1hn
@Jim-rs1hn 6 ай бұрын
yeah if you have much bigger legs than yeah front lever will be massively harder, and you have another factor that you have to counter. Basically if you do personal standards, a full front lever would be advanced+, but yeah you gotta grind out front lever for alot longer, because you're at a point where getting a stronger weighted pullup will be a extremely tough grind( cuz 2.5kg a year would be big for advance puller), so you have a easy 70kg+ pullup, to a 1x bodyweight pull which is advance numbers easily. You're only chance right now is to grind out the fl, but you may not be able to get unless you do it for a long time, because adding 2.5kg is extremely hard for you since you're already super stronger in weighted pull
@georgepetrou501
@georgepetrou501 6 ай бұрын
@@Jim-rs1hn I think I'll keep grinding the weighted pullup. I really love the movement and it has solved all of my problems up to this point. I think if I manage to reach 45kg for 3x6 I'll then be able to do the front lever. And I don't think it will take a very long time, I think I can do +10kg in a year if I'm very consistent and focus a lot on pullups

@@georgepetrou501 same for me few years ago. 40 × 6-8 at my best. So far from having the front lever. Try to pull your own bodyweight on one rep. WE underestimate the strenght to do it
@SasaVenos
@SasaVenos 6 ай бұрын
i checked, nice pullups bro. Yeah could be many reasons, maybe try doing them on the bar pronated so you can stop relying so much on the biceps. Other than that im sure you can do some slow FL negatives and get some good practice in at your strenght level

If I want to get up to 6-8 front lever pulls, should I decrese the number of sets when I get to lets say 4 reps per set? Kinda looks like too much volume to do 10x4 sets of pulls. Thoughts?

2-4x a week depending on your volume of course. Training in the 80-90% RM for most of the time. 3-8 reps (HSPU) or 5-10" isometrics. WORK ON YOUR DELTS.
