And how not to remember that Hewitt, Haas were close to Djokovic level in 2012-2013, and Tommy Haas defeated him in Miami 6-2 6-4. What about Nalbandian beating the top 3 in a row? After 2018 has started a weak era... Zverev Tsitsipas Alcaraz Medvedev hit hard and in some cases defends brilliantly, the others are really weak. I don't put Djokovic and Nadal in the top 3 of all time, because this amazing players from 2000's simply outplayed them technically speaking. And no one from the '80s to now, has won so many big tournaments after 31 y.o. Yes they have won a lot, but legends simply shines on court, McEnroe, Laver, Sampras, Edberg no one plays with so much "opportunism". Maybe Borg was the only one a bit similar to them. Till 25 y.o. should have been the best ever lived, but he's not, why? He wasn't an artist 🤣

The typical high ball into the backhand tactic after a heavy top spin lasso forehand from Rafa that worked on 99% of the tour was not a tactic that worked on Davydenko and it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if it motivated and inspired Novak Djokovic and Murray a little in how to develop a game-plan to push back against prime Nadal.

His backhand was as effective against Rafa, as it was (relatively) not so against Federer. It allowed Roger to constantly hit his own backhand into his comfort waist zone, which could make it absolutely lethal and much less prone to errors. Hard and early hitting is not enough to disrupt Roger's exceptional timing unless he's in bad shape... and this Roger was still able to cover tho court really well. Beating him was a very hard task for Davydenko, the odds were not favorable for him.

Exactly this. He was playing poorly before and this tournament he showed some life. And his level was good enough to almost get the win here. One of those matches that if he won, it would boosted his confidence. Sometimes it takes a single win to turn around a career. After this match I can’t remember another time he was a factor again
