A new major release of Stockfish is now available at stockfishchess.org
Stockfish 15 continues to push the boundaries of chess, providing unrivalled analysis and playing strength. In our testing, Stockfish 15 is ahead of Stockfish 14 by 36 Elo points and wins nine times more game pairs than it loses.
Improvements to the engine have made it possible for Stockfish to end up victorious in tournaments at all sorts of time controls ranging from bullet to classical and even at Fischer random chess. At CCC, Stockfish won all of the latest tournaments: CCC 16 Bullet, Blitz and Rapid, CCC 960 championship, and the CCC 17 Rapid. At TCEC, Stockfish won the Season 21, Cup 9, FRC 4 and in the current Season 22 superfinal, at the time of writing, has won 16 game pairs and not yet lost a single one.
This progress is the result of a dedicated team of developers that comes up with new ideas and improvements. For Stockfish 15, we tested nearly 13000 different changes and retained the best 200. These include the fourth generation of our NNUE network architecture, as well as various search improvements. To perform these tests, contributors provide CPU time for testing, and in the last year, they have collectively played roughly a billion chess games. In the last few years, our distributed testing framework, Fishtest, has been operated superbly and has been developed and improved extensively. This work by Pasquale Pigazzini, Tom Vijlbrief, Michel Van den Bergh, and various other developers is an essential part of the success of the Stockfish project.

Amazing tactics, powerful sacrifices with no attempt to regain. The material. The potential zigzag mate at the end was breathtaking. Thanks Josip and keep up the good work.

Wow!!!!!! This game was insane. Even though Stockfish played the most unbelievable game, white played incredible as well. All round a marvel of tactics to watch! GG.

Love the Rook sacrifice. If you are playing a strong opponent and they sacrifice like this... you have to think what are they up to as this is obviously not a mistake. Agree... It was one of the best by the fish. It wasn't really sacrificing its pieces, it literally calculated that LC0 pieces on the other side of the board were simply blocked and out of the game.

Crazy how stockfish can calculate the activity of the opponents pieces so deep, I think humans are rarely able to see that far into the future

I showed ideas behind the Richter-Rauzer to Max Dlugy at the Marshall Chess Club during the many days I went there in 1980. He was and is a cool /kid/dude. I enhjoyed those days. I was even at 5 minutes. But he was devastating at 2 minutes! Comps are not people. Keep doing what you do!!!

This just proves the old masters were right all along. Almost feels like some sort of Sheikah plotline, because it's okay even to sacrifice 2 pieces with no clear plan because you have better development. The Magician from Riga, Mikhail Tal, was wrong about himself when he said "There are 2 types of sacrifices: sound ones, and then mine."

Totally incredible game.. Difficult to find mistakes in Leela's game. But what Fish did here is unavailable. Well there was a time when I thought that if you take 5 best GMs in the world and put them together against the engine they might have a chance, but now I think this is some other dimension of the game. I simply don't understand what was going on in this game. How is it possible to give up a Rook and a Bishop with not very obvious idea or plan and still crash Leela like a 6 year old child with only a Queen and a Rook? We call some old Chess master's games immortal? What do you call this game? Insane?

@@eyeofhorus1301 This was quite some time ago. I think no human plays against engine these days. Today's engines are much stronger. This was older version of Dragon that beat Hikaru. When Magnus says it's depressing to play against the engine, it really is.

@@pensiveape6184 its not depressing its just a brick wall that plays practically perfect compared to a human haha so of course you can't do anything
