We're still in 1983 on our march through the adaptations of Stephen King's works, this time looking at David Cronenberg's take on The Dead Zone, based on the 1979 novel of the same name. Starring Christopher Walken, Brooke Adams, Martin Sheen, Tom Skerritt and more, this one is a cracker!
I'll give you 19 reasons to watch this movie and will save anything that might be a spoiler until the end - with a warning before they come in case you need to bail!

the perfect superhero story...tragic origin of how he gets his powers, goes on adventures fighting crime despite being slowly killed by said powers, and in the end sacrificing his life to save the world.

I 100% agree with your take, this is an amazing adaptation.. but something I really wasn't a fan of was Greg Stilson's late introduction. Don't get me wrong; I thought it was really clever to mention him in passing during the part where Johnny gets interviewed by the press.. but I feel as if he came into the movie too late. This is made worse by how Martin Sheen was cast perfectly. It's like introducing Jack Torrance 1 hour into the shining. They really should've kept in the dog kicking scene around the start of the movie.

Yep, that’s the only change I would make. Give me that psycho right at the start then take him away for an hour - then he’d be even scarier when he came back

Good film. Apparently I read from Lijas Library that the Salem’s Lot remake is coming out on Blu-ray July 3rd

I saw that too - they reckon that could mean it won’t even be getting a theatrical release…not a good sign!

@@DaveReadsKing It’s most likely going to go in the bin of bad Stephen King remakes. Hoping after this one they start adapting his non adapted works and then years later if Hollywood is still out of ideas, come back to Salem’s Lot.

I watched the movie adaptation a few months before reading the book I really enjoyed the dead zone film way more than the tv series Christopher walken is brilliant in the film

Yeah, the TV series had potential but was hampered by being produced when it was and striving for too many seasons.

He knew Patrick Bateman was going to kick a dog to death, so didn't put it in. One tiny trivial criticism that irked me a tad, was Dod's mother, who is like a copy of his mother, in the book she's a huge ogre of a woman, which I think would have been more effective visually. They slimmed down Beverly Rogan's boyfriend in the original IT, must be a movie thing.

I’ve only done season 1 of the TV show so far - it has potential but even in one season felt like they were padding it out too much. The episode where he’s trapped in the cave with the indigenous person? Nah, too silly for me!
