For hundreds of years prior to the 20th century, war had changed very little with the improvements in weapon technology that did arise being incremental and slow to establish themselves. However, with the industrial revolution of the mid-to-late 19th century and the meteoric advances in science and technology that came with it, in the span of a few decades, warfare was changed beyond recognition. New weapons that were once the stuff of science fiction from the likes of Jules Vernes or H.G. Wells such as submarines and aircraft were now being realised and with them, the number of ways to kill in war skyrocketed resulting in the brutal death factories that were the frontlines of the Great War between 1914 and 1918. In this episode, we are going to examine the development and use of just five of the myriads of deadly weapons to emerge during the First World War. Welcome to wars of the World

The American soldiers were given barbed wire cutters and some bayonets had a built in barbed wire cutter. The problem was, that the Army used barbed wire cutters whose style had been in use for a long while in the US and that they thought would be universal. 😅😅 the German barbed wire was much more robust; it had a round thick core and thicker strands around it than the US used. Our cutters would not cut it at all! Try having that realization come to you in No Man's Land as you and what few of your unit lived to get that fire, while you are under constant withering machine gun, mortar and artillery fire. You're above your ankles in mud, sewage, gore and filth with hordes of flies crawling on your dead friends. There is no cover at all and you are stopped dead. You can only try to run back to your own lines and probably get shot in the back before you reach your trench. You might could find an artillery crater with the horrificly grotesque grisly fly-covered remains of some of the lads from your unit from the charge a few days earlier. Rats are feasting on them too. You can only wait in that heat and stench until it gets very dark a mere 15 hours later to then slink out and try to get to your trench. Your own fellows might shoot you thinking that you are a German. War sucks.

What a waste of life and resources- Sad part? No one actually wins in war- Think about that
@polarvortex3294

@@rdallas81 I think that rather often one side or another wins: gaining independence, new territory, more citizens, etc. And sometimes both sides win, like when an evil regime is toppled, which its own citizens longed to do themselves, but could not, lacking sufficient power, or when a fractured and continually war-torn land of small factions and warlords is united by a bold conqueror, ushering into being a new era of peace, strength and prosperity. I mean, wars are not always all bad, and that's partly why they occur. Of course, WWI was pretty bad... I guess there are times when the combatants are fairly evenly matched & neither side is inclined to quit, when a war can devolve into a mutual nightmare. In such a case, both sides can suffer devastating wounds.

WW1 barbed wire was a lot more viscious than the barbed wire we see today. It was thicker and had longer spikes . . . German barbed wire was even more dangerous than the British stuff.

It is ironic that the Germans cared about long range bombers in WW1, but didn’t in WW2. At least at the start of WW2.
@levinicusrex1006
@levinicusrex1006 23 күн бұрын
Thats because the range of the bombers were suffice enough to do the job at the start of the war. During the battle of Britain and the subsequent Blitz started, they could use airbases in France to launch attacks against Britain. Its only when they invaded the Soviet union that the range of the bombers starts to become a problem.

Right. Later on (too late) Germans designed some interestlng long range bombers as Heinkel 177 Greif and prototype Messerschmitt 264.

I wonder if you heard about Russian S-22 Ilya Muromets bomber which entered the production prior to WWI (4 were ready by its beginning) and saw its first combat mission in February 1915. The wingspan of 31 meters is a bit less than that of the German counterpart (which was at least partially inspired by S-22) and the bomb payload was more limited but it was build almost 4 years earlier - that’s a lot for the war time!

Realistically it was only effective in Germany. The US joined due to the Germans killing US citizens, which lit a fire under every Americans ass at the time, the British largely joined due to the French requesting aid, even so the extent of propaganda there wasnt much. It was moreso conscription there and most other allies. As for the Huns they were a army mostly made of people who didn't even speak the same language and fought for their "races and ethnicities" and the assassination of the Archduke

I agree with your name- But there are many Jews who completely disagree with what the Israeli government is.doing. There's a reason why at the end of this age the world comes against Israel from all sides. It's actually in the bible- A book of facts that call the end from the beginning and future events from long ago- From ancient times things which have not yet come to pass.
