Sure cleaned out the whole tank. Pretty amazing discovery you've made there pal! Looking forward to the upgrade...

She definitely did aha, I'm hoping to do an update on the upgrade next week! I've realised recently how vague I've been about the whole thing haha 😂

Ah, don’t be mad at Marie, she’s just being a turtle. I can’t wait to see part two of this very video! I bet Marie’s been keeping a carrot garden in her bog wood! Great video, thank you for sharing.

Aha, I'm not mad, just disappointed 🙄😂 It's fine, she's only displaying natural behaviours which realistically is exactly what we want to see in our pets!!!! Hahahah, I'm imagining her in a straw hat with grass sticking out her mouth now. Thanks for watching Benji 😄 Hope you've been well!

As someone who keeps turtles, they can be extremely creative when catching fish. I don’t put any fish in a turtle tank that I don’t expect to be caught and consumed.

Completely agree, precisely why I always recommend remaining cautious when picking fish to live with a turtle and providing plenty of cover for them! Everything was going well till the layout change, a shame to be honest but I'm not shocked that Marie followed natural behaviour!

@@sg_animals. do you not like feeding your turtles live fish at all? For me I feel as though it provides natural enrichment for them to hunt

@@davisbenn2179 I tend to avoid it, a lot of fish contain thiaminase which can cause real problems in a high enough quantity (minnow are one of these fish). Plus it's just not really a necessary part of a musk turtles diet, their natural diet leans much more towards snails, molluscs, shrimp etc. I'm not against it at all if it's done responsibly though and the right species are chosen!

Interesting video Sean, I'm sure with her new, improved home the fish will thrive again. It seems that carnivorous turtles become more omnivorous with age, which may explain how the Elodea coverage has decreased. Looking forward to seeing the mystery revealed in part 2, plus seeing her new home once it is completed. Have a good week, it looks like it's going to be an early taste of Spring.

Thank you Jean! Yeah I agree, they tend to mellow out and vary their diet more with age. It's great news for Marie's dietary variety though! Part 2 truly is interesting to me! I didn't expect it but it's fascinating to know it's going on in my own home. Back to work for me next week! Hope you had a good weekend! :)

I’m working on a new build using a 75 gallon tank for my rescue Razorback musk. Looking forward to your final product What lighting do you use to support your plants?
@sg_animals.
@sg_animals. 3 жыл бұрын
Oh brilliant! That's a nice sized tank for a musk too! What kind of look/layout are you looking to build? Right now I just have a T8 UV strip light, elodea densa isn't too demanding lighting wise. However the lights will be further from the water come the new build and I'm aiming to have more plants (land, marsh and immersed) so I'll probably incorporate a ''fluval aquasky'', the same system I've got on my 7ft tropical fish aquarium, it's a brilliant light system!

Oh God 🙈🙈😐 Maybe the fish hadn't figured out all the hiding& sleeping places yet in the new setup?
@sg_animals.
@sg_animals. 3 жыл бұрын
I can only assume so! It's a shame but with the upgrade they'll have loads of new space, fresh plants and more decor to hide amongst. It's only natural and somewhat expected, but hopefully we can avoid Marie doing it again... 😂

I've never really had that problem (got the setup moved from my parents' place to mine w the musk & a bristlenose pleco though my brother swore there used to be 2 plecos......well) but I heard it's recommended to move in the fish a couple of days before moving in the turtle?
@sg_animals.
@sg_animals. 3 жыл бұрын
@@maedhrosmiddlefinger6874 Definitely be careful with plecs! As weird as it is, they can latch onto turtles shells and cause an alarming amount of damage! Yeah definitely, gives the fish a much better chance if they're able to scope the place out and find all the good hidey holes in peace. Keeping turtles is always interesting aha 😂

@@sg_animals. Thanks for the heads-up! Yeah I heard about that too, though she's an adult musk, pretty aggressive against the pleco and the pleco herself is.. fully grown by now too? At around 3 inches? They get along okay-ish but I def won't get any more plecos...

@@maedhrosmiddlefinger6874 I do love plecs to be fair, I've been tempted to get some in my 7ft aquarium but I'm concerned they might try outcompeting the ottos 😂 Not to mention how fast bristlenoses are known to breed haha!
