The problem with features of the browsers is that technically there is an organisation which talks out what should be the future directions of the browsers development and consists of the main browser-writing companies. Despite that if Google Chrome wants to add something what other participants don't agree with they are just adding it anyway and - because of a difference in popularity - these other browsers have to implement something similar anyway as otherwise the people will call them out for being "behind"

I was using Firefox for >10 years. I'm not exactly sure when I started, but it was before version 2.0. I have been using it for a very long time and if I have used something that long you have to piss me off big time to actually make me switch. Mozilla did just that. It was their UI that was chaging all the time and could not be configured. It was the settings that got reset by new "features" for no reason. It was how they treated Addons when they switched to their _secure_ way of Addons. It's how they switched to some chrome profile to change certain settings that could be changed in about:config before. It was all the changes that they forced down your throat. Changes that looked like there was no need for them. I always compare Firefox to an old friend that turned into an alcoholic and who destroyed their life with drinking too much booze. It's not like you would love to help and go a long way to make sure their fine, but your friend is unwilling to be helped. Even it hurts you to see them on their way down you have to stay away for your own good because otherwise your friend will drag you down with them and they have absolutely no right to do that. I think Firefox has to be compared to a Phoenix life: It has to go down in flames and die before it can be reborn into a new form of itself. I think Firefox and Mozilla have to fail and die before we can rebuild them.

One of the reasons why Firefox is better than Chromium is legacy hardware support, especially in graphics WebGL stuff. I'm really tired of Chromium continuously disabling anything on a GPU that is even only few years old. Chromium teams also makes it so 10+ years old GPUs will be blacklisted and the machine will those GPUs will run at software acceleration by default no matter how powerful and capable the GPUs are.. Since version 86 Chromium hates Terascale AMD GPUs because not only it's completely blacklisted, but also if you launch any Chromium browsers in those GPUs on Windows with ignore-gpu-blocklist turned on the browser will crash in few seconds. Since 104.x it blocked pre-Haswell Intel GPUs on Windows, despite some of them run WebGL perfectly fine on Firefox and previous Chromium versions, and VMware on Linux is blocked despite it being the superior VM graphics in the VM market other than QEMU's virtio-gpu. I can't stand this obsolescence anymore, like why blocking such a GPU due to a microscopic bug, when they work perfectly fine on Firefox? I'll consider staying away from any Chromium-based browsers especially on older hardware. Even with such bull---- claims that "chromium is better because of blah blah blah..." Chromium teams only CARE about the LATEST hardware in each updates. One years old and expect a feature to be disabled due to a "bug". Terrible.

The way that software is developed today is so bureaucratic and heavy. The truth is they could make an incredibly powerful browser that would be free and not require Google. Multi-Account Containers are so misunderstood. Yes, put an account in a container, but good luck setting up multiple containers for the same site. You will have the option to choose whether you want to use the container or not. If you don’t, then you simply lose the cookie isolation that the containers provide. It’s only when you add Temporary Containers and make it apply to all tabs that you actually get an improvement over no container tabs at all. Even then, the benefits are tiny.

Plus a team to develop new technologies is not easy to fund it depend on the OS and mobile. Without funding they would need to cut back of their service or forces to use other services. It all depend if the site is secure or not as well check those feature is better then theirs.

Brendan Eich, formally of Netscape and Mozilla, is the founder of Brave. I wonder why he went with chromium for Brave instead of Firefox? Legal reasons? I think brave is a great browser but I still stick to Firefox because I don't like Google's domination of the browser engine market. If Brendan just forked Firefox instead of chromium we would already have a badass competitor and defender of the free web in the browser space.

I always go to the about:config and change a number of settings for privacy & security. 👍 Firefox is the best, but they could improve something to compete with chromium on the raspberry pi. Chrome can play 1080 YT vids, (with the h264ify add on set to 30fps),with no frames dropped, but Firefox fails. Still love it.

Slowly switched over to Edge I dunno why, I guess one of the main reasons was that I wanted the same mobile browser on my phone but it shouldn't kinda suck. This was before Firefox brought a better mobile version and I also wanted a built in TTS with a natural voice which is exclusive to Edge. Oh, and Gecko also doesn't work so well with school programs.

I do love Firefox, but my god is it annoying when I click on the sidebar videos of KZfaq and the video plays but the Play button is sitting there like "click me", every damn time! And if I use the keyboard to go forward or back, at least 50% of the time it will highlight the UI elements in the player with a blue outline, sort of like highlighting text. This will either affect the play button (if I used the space bar to play/pause) or the timeline/seeker if I use left/right arrows or J/L. I really hope they fix this bullshit soon because it's been happening for so long now. People don't realise just how important it is to continue using Firefox. You don't even need to be technical to understand why.

Microsoft, one of the biggest companies in the tech industry, and they didn't manage to compete. I don't believe Mozilla can do much even if they had more money, Google moves faster and faster on the development of chromium just to throw everyone off balance, and they aren't going to stop. Maybe Mozilla should just use chromium and make it privacy focused and have their services on it, just without any unnecessary extras like crypto.

I think Edge failed because instead of letting it be a standalone app it was tied to the web rendering of the OS. No matter how much advancement they could put to the browser they still had to wait for the 6 month (or yearly, I am not sure) Windows updates until Edge got a meaningful feature update. Chromium or Firefox doesn’t have that limitation. Even though that made Edge faster and efficient (Chrome is fast but it takes a lot of resources to be that way, Edge didn’t have that limitation) it also made it slower to update than those two. Now that new Edge is based on Chromium, for better or worse, it can get updates faster. Be it feature or basic enhancements. But I do think if they released old Edge as a standalone app (they should’ve to be fair) it could’ve competed way better than it did. But at the same time, would it be as fast and efficient, seeing it wouldn’t be tied to the OS? Safari has a similar problem.

I don't think Google gives firefox money so they can make money off the users. I think they give firefox money so they can point to firefox and say they have competition. Mozilla really needs to, market themselves as the rebel browser that worked so well in the early IE days. Mozilla also needs to find ways to monetize firefox while maintaining privacy. And the partnership with facebook may be a case where a bad person does a good thing for their own self interest.

Why does Google pay to keep essentially their last remaining competitive browser alive? Well it is simple, just so that they don't get similar heat as Microsoft got with internet explorer 6 back in the day. Back then internet explorer had even bigger market share than Chrome/Chromium has nowadays, and Microsoft was this close to end up getting chopped to smaller companies. Just imagine if tomorrow Mozilla announced that Firefox was no more and thus there was only Chrome/Chromium and Safari, so essentially every Windows Linux and Android system would be forced to switch over to Chrome/Chromium browser. I don't think that neither EU or USA would like that one bit, so there could be that alphabet as a company would be turned into alphabets soup and divided into smaller bowls. So most likely Google will be keeping lights on at Mozilla even after the current contract has ended. But yeah if Firefox would go away, then the upcoming ManifestV3 add-ons and death of current good adblockers by January 2023 on Chrome/Chromium, would only be the start. I would not be surprised if in that case any and all adblockers would get thrown out of the add on store, if there was no competitors who allowed such things and was not running Chromium.

I think I heard that Microsoft includes the container library used by FF that Mozillo came up with so that's good news. I might give Proton a spin (their VPN too).
