How is it not obvious that Steam Deck is Steams console? I don’t think it would be crazy to see them maybe sell a dock that adds power to the steam deck but as far as a console’s go they are pushing all there chips in on the Deck.

I pay my subscription and play more and varied games than ever. I spend more on gaming than ever before and have bought games I would never have considered had I not been able to dip into different genres. Having said that I am struggling, as in can’t stop playing, to finish RDR2 for the 3rd time😀

It's not a rumor about devs not wanting to work on the Xbox. We easily forget that the leaks revealed that ABK pressured MS to take a smaller cut of CoD revenue in order to stay on the platform. If ABK felt that way with Xbox, & they are consistently the most sold title on the platform, why wouldn't other publishers and other devs also feel the same way who have much less capital? 🤔 That doesn't mean that this is every dev, but these rumors don't crop up in a vacuum. Between XBOX's shrinking console market and the affect that GAMEPASS has had on software sales, it isn't a surprise in the least. They can't put the genie back in the bottle, GAMEPASS has changed the purchasing habits of Xbox gamers.

Xbox message for the last 5 years has been "don't buy our games play them on GP" and they wonder why 3rd party studios are thinking why even bother making an Xbox version if Xbox gamers don't 99% of the time DONT buy games cause they think that's what Xbox heads told them to do. No wonder sales for the games and consoles are poor, why do you think they bought so many publisher's because they know that's the ONLY way to make huge profits. At the end of the gen they should cut there losses on console hardware make a great handheld and just become a 3rd party because from a console under the TV sale they are dead. This handheld boom, is going to potentially change the way games are made, especially if Xbox and PlayStation gets into the game with their own handhelds, and of course Switch 2. Handhelds will be targeted as far as development. Alot of smaller and tighter experiences, and less bloat in games.

You can't have the offerings of a PC with the safety of a console it doesn't work like that. Those games are built to work on a PC. The best MS could do is create a custom UI but there will still be PC like issues no the device.

I'm so tired of internet hating and shit. Some months ago, people was talking about monopoly, now the death of the brand every day for no reason. The offer is amazing, they have way more support than the One era but, somewhat, media wants the death of xbox at all cost. So, every rumor, fake and so on helps to keep out gamers for buying this console, which is great by the way. Brand fanatism plus other brand hating is a real thing, even for media outlets

It's not that the death of xbox is here again. The death of xbox is here still. The thing is it will not be an overnight death. It will take years before MS finally stops making xbox consoles entirely. At some point MS is going to release an xbox themed pc and call it the next xbox, and it will simply run some version of windows and you will be able to play steam/epic games. That's likely what Phil is talking about with those comments this week.

The worst part of the pc gamepass imo is the linking of other game launchers. Having to use the EA, ubisoft, now battlenet stinks. You miss out on achievements if you care about that sort of thing, and sometimes miss out on multi-player crossplay because of it. For instance, super mega baseball 4 you can't play coop crossplay. But if both people are on Xbox you can.

I think the future of gaming is within some kind of unified pc marketplace. Console makers and game publishers can focus on doing separate things rather than trying to be publisher and console maker at the same time. Valve has definitely gotten us closer to the one pc future with steam deck, and i am interested in seeing microsoft push the unified console market too (and then focusing on publishing games)

As someone who owned an xbox. I believe I don't do have much to commit to in the sense that I buy the box and pay for a subscription enjoy what's there and jump off when I've had my fill. Right now I feel that xbox needs games that are going to pull people to the platform and keep them there long enough that they meet the next great game on there. Ps4 generation there were times where it felt like banger after banger. That's what's needed and I believe we will see that on the next generation of xbox as all these purchases start to mature/get to the end of there development cycles.

The Xbox has a grim future under Phil Spencer. Adorably all digital. The Blackrock games suck. Achievements suck. In-game chat sucks. Game hubs pointless. People building up digital libraries are going to eventually regret not getting them on Steam. Xbox is as boring and inoffensive as its CEO is. A far cry from the days of Robbie Bach and Peter Moore when the brand was genuinely cool.

How would a Steam console even work? Most games (by the numbers) don't have controller support, and many of those that do show only Xbox glyphs. I just played through the Tomb Raider remake trilogy using my DualSense, and those games only show Xbox icons. The library on such a console would be very limited, especially if it doesn't just copy the Xbox glyphs and layout.

Not sure what is so hard to understand. After spending Billions on the Activision deal + legal fees, MS execs will continue to step in to correct course to get a return on that investment. Xbox platform and MS Studios are 2 sepreate entities. Forget indies, what is going on at studios? The inability to crank out the games is more concerning. Xbox strategy is sound, just 5-10 years too soon. Xbox and PS are already essentially the same hardware and I don't see that changing so feeding into any console wars talk was already zzz to me. One day what you play on will be irrelevant, just load up the PS or Xbox app and go. Or if/when quality/latency of streaming is solved. We aren't there yet, Xbox is fine, they are just hedging on future tech, but execution and messaging of present day strategy is terrible. The backlash from micro transactions stupid in this case. You don’t need to buy them to play the game. Yes it’s clear they put them there to make money. The game is intentionally designed to be difficult but for people who want to avoid a certain level of difficulty you can avoid it, and I don’t care if they sell people tools to do that because I’m not going to buy those things. I will play the game as it was intended to be played. I’ll make it from the beginning to the end no problem. I could understand if you absolutely had to buy these micro transaction to be successful but that’s not the case. Ubisoft the idea of easy mode with micro transactions, so what if you don’t wanna play the easy mode don’t do it. Nobody’s forcing you to do it and if somebody else does do it, it’s not harming your gameplay experience it would be different if this was a multiplayer game and someone was purchasing stuff and got ahead of you as a result, that’s not what happening someone can buy something it’s just for their enjoyment that’s the American way. If they want to buy something and it makes their game easy, so be it if they want to pay someone to come into their house play the video game from start to finish, so that’s their business. Too many people are getting upset at something that they don’t have to participate in if you don’t like it, don’t use it no harm no foul to you. it just seems like people want to complain for no good reason now. The only extra transactions a $60 or $70 game should have are proper expansions well after launch. The existence of microtransactions always brings into question the balance of game design. Alot of these kind of microtransactions should be unlocks or cheats in a full price game.

Dying no, that’s not the word I would use to describe Xbox at all changing that’s the word I would use absolutely. Remembered Nintendo and the Wii U the company was dying one generation after they had a huge success. They realized their approach was not working, and they developed a new business model focused on selling a different platform to consumers. They didn’t deviate from selling video games and consoles but they did break away from the idea of ultra modern platforms that have to be plugged into a television. Clean break from that idea and it’s one of the most successful platforms out there. It’s so successful that when many people argue, they should’ve retired it and started their next generation of platform they were able to squeeze 2 it. Now Microsoft, I think they’re doing something different. I think they realized they are not winning the war. The war is lost. Don’t get me wrong. They have the money where they can continue to fight this war forever, but it won’t be enough to win. The goals they would have to hit to win this war it’s something that’s possible to do but it’s not probable. They would have to sell games that scored 9.0 or better continually for the next decade. Not only that they would have to release more of these games than Sony. They have to be AAA games they have to be AA games. They have to be independent games but you would have to flood the market with so many good games that people would turn and take notice and say wow they’re doing a better job than Sony. That ain’t gonna happen. Not that they can’t develop great games it’s that you can’t develop that many great games and put them out in such a rapid timeframe. It doesn’t make financial sense to do so because then you would cannibalize the great game you just released. I hope that all makes sense. So they said if we can’t win this war, even with our large mega chest of money, what else can we do? What are we good at? Microsoft is when it comes to software. And they said let’s go the software out. We still can sell hardware, but we really need to figure out a way to get games in the hands of people via software via an app. I believe that is the future they are aiming for. They want an app where you can click a button pull up their window there, mainframe or whatever and then play your Xbox games. Buy the games in their app or oh my goodness, how revolutionary buy a subscription from their app And play the games. Remember Netflix started out selling DVDs and then they said we have an app. They made more money with the app that they did the DVDs. To the point where they said we don’t need to do DVDs anymore. just get people to subscribe to the app. Put so much content on the app and make it such an affordable price that people say well I might as well subscribe even if they don’t put out the best movies every year the ones that win the Oscars they have some pretty good stuff up there something you can watch every week or every other week just enough of a trickle of stuff coming in so that you don’t cancel that subscription and it makes them money. Microsoft said let’s adapt that model to what we do. The problem is it takes a lot of money to launch a streaming app Ask Paramount, Ask, NBC, or any of the other streaming apps that aren’t doing well. They don’t have enough money they don’t have enough content. Microsoft doesn’t have to worry about money. The only question is can you get the content? And can you get people to notice? That is what they’re trying to do now let’s go get some content and then we’re going to turn on the spigot and we’re going to say do you wanna drink?

PS as well will not be the same going forward.. AAA games take a whole generation to make, and cost Millions, and millions, and millions...

Well, negative news gets a lot of clicks and websites need clicks to get a ton of add revenue. And with Sony giving them so much add revenue...well...they are not going to bite the hand that feeds them. Would be nice if Microsoft gave the Xbox division something in terms of a marketing budget.
