Didnt think they put lq4's in that year escalade, thought all the 6.0 escalades were lq9's.

Second gen Escalade (the GMT800 platform) always had LQ9 as the 6.0. Third gen had either LFA or LZ1.

LQ9 with Flat top heads if it's from an Escalade. The Yukon Denalis have a performance tuned LQ4 that will still run on 87.

ESCALADE gets lq9 same as vortec max, in fact most escalades from 05/06 have vortec max plastics not cadillac

@@MitchCarveth buddy right where you bolted the engine stand on it literally says LQ4 or lq9 on the back of the block behind the flywheel

Except for the part where it only says 6.0L buddy, literally no where on the block does it say lq9 or lq4. They share the same block..

Escalade will definitely have the LQ9 with the flat top pistons.

LQ9 is newer and more hp It came out in 2004 for escalade The 01-3 have the lQ4 04-06 have the Lq9

@@franciscosuarez2346that’s wrong, my 02’ has an lq9, code in the glove box and everything lol there is no 01 escalade, unless youre talking about the pickups. the engine released in 2002 and was exclusive to the second gen escalade for 02’. I don’t think an lq4 has ever even been offered on the second gen escalade lol it makes more power because the pistons are flat top and it gets better compression because of it. I think it also has stronger rods though

@mercedescote6578yes it does lmao lq4 is dish top with press fit wrist pin, skinnier rod. Lq9 is flat top with full floating wrist pin and a beefier rod

It’s has 317 heads. I’ll be putting L92 heads on it.

Why there is two types of piston for what reason because im trying to get one from juckyard for my first build swaping it to my buick electra 66 🤔

I’m not exactly sure why GM did it but I do know with dish pistons like what comes in the LQ4 it lowers compression so you don’t have to run as high of octane fuel. Maybe that’s why GM did it but you also lose horsepower. If you plan on going turbo in the future go with the LQ4 but if you plan on going N/A I would suggest LQ9. Just my 2 cents though

lq4s where in smaller suvs like trailblazer variants and the h3 hummer

They never put any kind of LQ in either of those. If they had a v8 it was a 5.3 unless it was an SS, in that case it'd be a 6.0 LS. The 2nd generation escalade only got an LQ9 unless you bought the poverty model with RWD only and you'd get a 5.3.

Lq4 was for the yukons. SS Silverado and escalade got lq9

The lq4 was the work duty/ hd engine. Its predominantly found in 2500+ trucks and hd trucks @@matthostetler5422
