A few things to note / common questions: - These are solely my opinions and if yours are different that’s fine. This video is purely for entertainment. - I did not forget any engines (LSA, LS4, Super snake) etc. I simply stuck to the newer and highest production volume engines to keep the video a reasonable length. I might do a video on older ones eventually. Thanks for watching and have a great day!

Trinity is good but not special. I'd argue that the run-of--mill LT1/LS1 are special precisely because of their ubiquity. Sure, they are everywhere and very familar, but that is what makes them special. Those engines democratized the hot rod V8; they feel boring because everybody has one. THey are miracle engines because they provide awesome performace to the everyday man.

The 6.1 hemi might be the real goat of the big hemis. The stock internals are said to be better than the 6.4, and so is the base "block" or platform as far as custom-built motors go. Hell, it's been said that even the modern 5.7s has a stronger factory setup in it than the 6.4, and you can get a 5.7 to do hellcat numbers easier/more reliably than a 6.4. My point is, you missed one, and kinda underrated the other.

@@mcspartan5822His point is that the 6.1 is better for boost than the 6.4 and it deserved a mention on this list. The 6.4 definitely doesn’t set any kind of bar and no-one’s calling it’s internals fantastic. 6.1 HEMI’s are considered the most reliable hemi motor to date and can expect to see 250,000+ miles with proper maintenance, can easily handle 600+hp on stock internals, make great power stock (425hp/420lbft), are easily available for a good price, and have a massive aftermarket and tuning potential.

My 5.7 has been absolutely perfect, and is silky smooth on acceleration, and the other points you made are valid as well. I appreciate your knowledge of the L98. If the L98 was included, then the 5.0 found in the Foxbody's should also be on the list along with the early LT1's in my opinion but I think starting at the LS1 on this list was the right move. I own a 1990 Corvette and I wouldn't rank the L98 too high. It has good torque stock but it's pretty limited in power output. Anything above 400-500 horse requires new heads and it only had 255 horsepower in the later years of the C4. The torque is fun but personally, I'd rather LS swap my C4. Same can be said for the LT1 and early 5.0. If you want good power, you're just building your own motor.

Ford Modular V8 1991-2009 is the best engine design ever. The 2v 4.6 variant is the most reliable fuel-injected motor ever sold commercially. The 5.4 4v was the first engine to take a car to 300 mph. @@fellippegalletta6827 I think it's more like ranking the US E36 M3 higher than the Euro-spec. One is a cooler, more exotic engine, but the other is 80% of the way there for 1/10th the money and is bomb-proof. Like I said, I think the LS3 is the LS of LSs. The LS is great because it's an awesome compromise of cost, reliability, and performance. I'd argue that no engine ever made in the history of the planet does all that better than the LS3. I think the LS7 gives up too much in the first two for what it gains in the latter to be S-tier. A-tier still makes it one of the all-time greats. If it was genuinely unreliable then I'd knock it way down. Also, exotic? If we're looking for exotic, then the last thing I'm after is a 500hp LS. It may be an awesome motor, but eventually you'll get tired of being rolled on by junkyard-turbo 5.3s and K-swapped Miatas.

After ford dropped the cast iron block in the gt500 in 2010, I think the 2011-2012 gt500 deserves a bit of shine. They made a decent amount of power but that engine actually has stronger rods than the 13-14 Trinity engines and is a better platform for making big power. Good list!

The 5.7 continues to be a sleeper and I love it. I’ve had 3 vehicles with it and the 6.4. Even though the latter was the most powerful I’ve had, my current 5.7 Jeep has been more enjoyable. After modding it, I’m making Jeep SRT power. One could ask why I didn’t get an SRT in the first place, but that wouldn’t be much fun. Great video and I personally agree with most of your choices on how to rate them. However, the 2005 ford gt 5.4 is an entirely different animal then the 5.4 which was in the 07 gt500. Probably the only thing they have in common is displacement. The ford gt 5.4 was an all aluminum, dry sump, rock solid built bottom end, racecar engine. This motor came from the factory with the ability to easily withstand 1000hp. The supercharger was a lysholm twinscrew unit, superior to the eaton roots blower on the 07 gt500. This absolute unit of an engine definitely deserves to be in the top tier also.

@running2redline I hate to geek out and fanboy out on that motor so much, but i remember when it debuted I ate up every magazine and info about the car I could get my hands on. I remember on the old forums reading about bone stock Ford gt's putting down 530 plus rear wheel hp bone stock. The 550hp rating was definitely under rating it or the midengine design made it have very little parasitic loss. Maybe it was a combination of those two things...? But thanks for the content!

I am a Mopar guy and I respect this tier list, and agree with most things on this tier list. However you forgot to mention the Hellcat HO engine. This engine was first introduced in the Demon, and made 840 HP with race gas. And later put in cars such as the Challenger and Charger Redeye, and the Challenger Super Stock. This engine is a different variant of the Hemi HO/Hellcat motor because of different internals and supercharger. I would bring up the other variant that is used in the Demon 170, how ever the car hasn't been sold to anyone yet, so we don't know the reliability. Good tier list!

@jaymoe5.7 10 ай бұрын
I know Dodge really only has 3 current engines but there's 4 3rd gen Hemi's and there's the early and later versions that are actually quite different from one another. For the 5.7 you have the pre eagle (2003-2008) and the eagle hemi (2009-present). The pre eagle hemi makes 345hp and 375lbft where as the eagle hemi makes 370hp and 395lbft in the Challengers, Chargers and 300's but makes 395hp and 407lbft in the Ram trucks and Jeep SUV's. The eagle hemi also comes with VVT in the cars. Then we get into the 6.1 Hemi (2005-2010) it makes 425hp and 420lbft. It only came in the SRT8 Charger's, Challengers, 300's and Jeep Grand Cherokee's. Then we get into the 392 hemi (2011-present) which you covered well, but in the cars it has the codename "apache" refering to it's cylinder heads vs the 5.7's "eagle" heads. And the cars will have 392 badging. But in the heavy duty trucks from (2015-present) they're just called the 6.4 Hemi gas engine, codename BGE which is stamped in the block which literally stands for "big gas engine." They make 410hp and 429lbft but Little known secret though, the BGE blocks are damn near identical to a hellcat block and have been proven to handle up to 2000hp. Different rotating assembly than the hellcat blocks, but they make for the best builder engines because they can be had at a fraction of the price of a hellcat block. Also the hellcat engines come in like 3 different current power configurations depending on the trim level for the cars and the vehicle they're in has to do with different power levels for different years. Plus they've made special versions of the engine like the 2018 Demon and the new Demon 170.
@Drunken_Hamster

Imagine a BGE block with a 90mm stroke and DOHC. 8000 RPM safe and 700HP N/A; Basically just a bigger C8 Z06 motor at 6.1L. I think you should’ve done the 4.6L 4V Supercharged Terminator V8 that was in the 2003/04 SVT Cobras because that was the granddaddy that became the 5.4L Condor and 5.8L Trinity. Also, there are differences between the voodoo and the predator, the predator went back to a cross plane crank and was built in a stronger block. The voodoo had two generations of engine. The first generation was pretty problematic and the fact that it had very bad oil consumption problems that they worked out later on with the generation two video that came in the 2019 and 2020 Shelby, GT 350s. However, just my take I believe you should’ve put the Terminator Eaton Supercharged 4.6L 4V DOHC engine one of your Ford engines.

I fell in love with my first and only Ford product. A New 2003 Cobra. No modifications , Perfect right out of the dealership. I sold this car 3 years later with only 18K on the clock. I only had one reason. I was in the bay when the car was up on the lift for it's first oil changed. To make sure that the vehicle was breaking in properly. I noticed RUST in many areas under the car. With only 3k miles. This is something i never noticed in the many cars i owned. If rust was starting at only 3k miles what was going to be at 30k ? This is when i knew Ford was not for me. I had NO trouble selling this car. As soon as i put it up for sale. 3 days later it was gone. I will never understand how a new car with no mileage can start rusting on every piece of metal i could see ?

Nice list overall, I definitely would have added in the legendary 4.6L 4v, from the SVT Cobra/Mach1 (Cobra one modified from factory) . 2v and 3v were great reliable engines, and imo fantastic sounds, but definitely lackluster for power.

I personally would go 2ss for versatility, less weight allows for slightly better all around performance IMO, and I believe the 2ss will be cheaper with lower mileage. I am a big Chevy advocate though so admittedly quite biased there. Good luck, I think either would be tons of fun!

The 330 Modular you put in the B tier is kind of underrated. The configuration they had it for the 2005/2006 Ford GT is actually very reliable and can get on the power very quickly. The base block is also bullet proof, someone actually was able to modify that motor on the base block up to almost 3000hp without sleeving or boring, and the mad lad daily drives it, which is pretty darn impressive.

Very weird that you did whole engine series in the V6 video and extremely specific trim levels in this one. Nice video, regardless! Surprised the Trinity motor ranked so favorably compared to the Predator, but then again, I guess it's bigger in displacement (not great for revs though) and sounds better?
@running2redline

This was my first go at a tier list and much less organized. It was also missing a ton of engines and only included modern ones. I will likely redo it to include everything, in which case I’ll be doing series rather than specific iterations to avoid a 3 hour video. I think I was just harsh on the predator here and would flip it with the voodoo if I could. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed the video!

Well if it was only about "Sound" that made an engine top tier, this would be close. As a rebuilder for over 40 years, I give props to both the LS/LT and Coyote platforms. The bottom ends are bulletproof and can absorb high RPMs and loads of power. But if I was ranking the best all time engines, it would also include the Ford 427 FE, The Toyota 2JZ, The Chevy DZ302, The Ford 300 Six, The Chevy 3.8 Six, and older Subaru EJ20 series.

Being a MOPAR guy, the 5.7L Hemi and the 6.1L (the 1st generation of the Gen IIIs?) were left off the list. Stock these are over looked, BUT with the swap of the "Eagle" heads of the new 5.7 Hemis, they light up. If you are hotrodding an older car with a modern MOPAR engine, this is the way to go. (Unless you go Hellcat ...) I would rank the original base 5.7l over the new base 5.7l for pure mod-ability sake, even if it makes less power in stock form. (340, 345 and 350)
