We are living in a time where a documentary breaking down the Disney Trilogy is more entertaining and has more effort put into it than the actual trilogy.

Turning a billion dollar franchise into a million dollar franchise in such a short period is quite the achievement.

It's fascinating to see all these Producers and Writers and Directors saying what fans they are, and how important the characters are, and how much they love Star Wars. And then you watch these films, and begin to realize that they do not understand the fans, or the franchise.

I'm so impressed with Mark Hamill's level of integrity & his drive to preserve what he could. I can't imagine how many unpleasant conversations he must have gone through after those interviews.

Watching those Mark Hammil interviews always breaks my heart at how much he cares about the fans and his character.

I'm genuinely amazed Kathleen Kennedy was able to say that stuff about protecting the characters without being struck by lightning.

Mark Hamill's dissing of TLJ was epic and spot on. You could tell that he HATED the story and how his character was ruined.

I was born in the 1970s and have been a Star wars fan since then, I had never walked out of a movie in my life until TLJ, The Way Luke was portrayed or should I say Betrayed by RJ was unforgiveable....Real fans know this.

The sequel trilogy is what taught me that I can have my own canon in my head regardless of what anyone says

Turning Luke into a grumpy old man with no consular properties is a tragedy. All they had to do was Lukes Jedi temple and a return of a Sith threat. I can't believe how bad they messed it up.

My biggest complaints upon watching TFA were: 1. Rey's character stumbling upon her force powers with no guidance whatsoever, and 2. The lack of relationship-building moments between the three protagonists. Poe and Finn basically bump into each other and are instant buds - to the point that Poe embraces Finn at the end like he was his best friend. Last Jedi and Rise Of Skywalker not only didn't fix those issues, but they just blew it all to shit.

They should of got Rey to write the scripts , she’s inexplicably good at literally everything she does with no experience 🤔🤷‍♂️

Why does Rose have to tell Finn about how bad child slavery is, when he was literally abducted by the First Order as a child and basically put into slavery!

Can you just imagine how it would have been to see Han, Luke an Leia reunited on screen and going to a last adventure, save the day on a smaller scale, having a darker Fin ex storm trooper with deep conflict in him between the light and dark force, that would have helped our hero infiltrate the enemy, knowing their thechniques and weaknesses. having a true Jedi training with an awesome general Skywalker...a compelling villain, and maybe Ray being super strong cuz she was actually a high rank Sith general that had her memory wiped away dark Revan style from the old rebublic... There was so much potential...

This makes me so sad 😞 So many missed opportunities. The most disgusting and sickening miss opportunity was when Han, Luke and Leia were not put on the screen together into one scene. The photoshopped photo that Hammil tweeted was what all Star Wars fans wanted. We never got it 🤬

I guess I was in the minority. I walked out of "The Force Awakens" thinking..."not good". The trilogy went downhill from there. I'll never forget Poe's line to Holdo in TLJ..."please tell us that you have a PLAN". That's the epitaph for this trilogy.

It's just so depressing to think we could've avoided this mess if 1.They'd had a plan and 2. Put story over agenda. Just so sad.

This documentary was made with a lot of thought. I'm still disappointed that Luke Skywalker "wasted" the remainder of his life living as a hermit on an island. That's not the Luke I have known.

I also cried at the end of Episode 9. You know why? Because I realised how mistreated they have this legacy Star Wars, it's history and especially Mark Hamill, who loved his Luke Skywalker, without apology. Kennedy pissed and shat on George Lucas - the man who put her at the top of Lucasfilm to defend his legacy. 7, 8 and 9 are best left forgotten. This shall be Kennedy's legacy.

So many people parroting that you had to see the last Jedi twice to enjoy it makes me REALLY REALLY think Disney had their finger in spreading that line. of course they'd want people to go see the same movie twice, double the money.

This is a great comprehensive documentary on Star Wars that everyone should see. Poor Mark Hamill; breaks my heart.

I was 5 years old and saw Star Wars on opening day in 1977. To this day I can remember hearing the music, seeing the opening crawl, and being terrified when Vader first appeared (cut me some slack, I was 5). It was the first and only time I have been in a theater where the entire audience, every man, woman, and child literally stood and applauded at the end of the movie. I have been there on opening night for every Star Wars movie but episode 9. Luke Skywalker is the greatest hero created in my lifetime and since the end of Return of the Jedi I have waited to see Luke as a full fledged Jedi Master.. I AM STILL WAITING. I think you did a great job on this documentary, it's well put together, and Doomcock does a great job narrating. That being said I don't think I can watch it again for a while. It just hurts too much, I know that may sound strange. The first 6 movies told perhaps the greatest story in cinematic history. They changed not just my life but millions of lives. Disney for whatever reason decided to destroy Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia on purpose. I can't fathom why but it's obvious they did. It just makes me sick, sad, and angry all at once.

George Lucas always said the story ended with Anakin's redemption and the death of the Emperor. George Lucas was right. We just didn't realize it at the time.

Marvel Studios: successfully plans and executes on screen, with only minor inconsistencies, a 22 movies long plot composed by multiple franchises with multiple protagonists. All starting from characters who were totally unknown to the general audience. Lucasfilm: can’t plan ahead for a basic 3 movies long plot, one which didn’t even require them to worry about multiple franchises/protagonists. All while having some of the most beloved fictional characters ever, with the original actors returning to play them, completely at their disposal.

I had seen most of the footage before, but the reminder of how genuinely wounded Mark Hamill was by the treatment of Luke in these movies is reason enough for any fan to regret that Disney Star Wars ever happened. Especially since, having seen the movies, we all know exactly where he was coming from. Also, finishing with Mauler was a good choice. His summation was absolutely on point.

I am a huge Star Wars fan eversince the first movie came out in 1977, when I was just 6 years old. In my late teens, I realized that Star Wars was basically just trash science fiction compared to many other movies, comic books and novels from that genre, but that it was made with so much effort, passion and creativity, that it becomes a beautiful piece of art just because of that...and though my taste in sci-fi and movies in general became much more mature, I still always loved Star Wars, I rewatched the OT so often, that I knew every line in it by heart. Back then as a male one could easily ruin a date, just by mentioning one was a Star Wars fan, as unlike today, most girls/young ladies had strong negative feelings about everything that is considered to be "nerd culture" today. I didn't care. I still loved it. Later I was somewhat dissapointed by the prequel trilogy, but over the years I learnt to love them as well, as they completed the whole story ark and there were SO many details in them, making the Star Wars galaxy feeling much larger. During all of my life, I have spent thousands of USD on Star Wars merch, as a kid I owned hundreds of SW action figures, I had all the iconic space ships, I had a stormtrooper blaster, I've read dozens of SW comics, novels, I played and owned most of the SW vid games, I had SW themed posters, t-shirts, coffee mugs, bed sheets....LOADS of them. I never had children my own, but I introduced my nephew to SW and when he was 9 or 10, I gave my complete collection of Star Wars toys to him, after I had realized, that he had begun to collect them as well. I even turned my father, my sister and her husband and even my wife into fans. After I had watched TFA I saw the movie's flaws, but I still thought it had enough starting potential for a great sequel trilogy. But hen came TLJ... Until then I had watched every single Star Wars OT movie many dozens of times and every prequel movie at least 10 times and though I haven't watch TFA that often, I still owned it on DVD and had watched it a couple of times. TLJ was the first SW movie I felt bad about after having seen it for the first time. A couple of days later after having spend some thoughts about it, I began to deeply hate it. I haven't watched it again, after that first time. I boycotted "Solo" as I was furious about Darth Kath and Rian Johnson having claimed that all fans who disliked TLJ were "toxic", "racist" and "sexist" and Darth Kath arrogant statement that she didn't owe anything to SW fans. Well, no bitch, we don't owe anything to you. I only went to see TROS to see if JJ could somehow safe the sequel trilogy and though I really think he tried, the damage done by TLJ was too severe...and on top of that, TROS wasn't a good movie NOR a half-way decent SW movie either. It pretty much sucked as much as TLJ and I won't rewatch it either. And while I later enjoyed The Mandalorian quite a lot, my former passion for Star Wars has become a mere shadow of what it has been for almost 45 years of my life. Fuck you, Darth Kath! Fuck you, Rian Johnson! Fuck you, JJ Abrams!

The biggest problem with the sequel trilogy, writing wise, is NOTHING IS EARNED!! All they needed to do is get a strong writer director to work along side Lucas, keeping his bad ideas in check and giving life to his good ideas.

Ford Vs Ferrari perfectly summarizes why true passion and talent can only come from the one, not the many. Go see that movie instead.

The documentary greatly illustrates how people tend to lie to themselves when they love something, how we, the fans just jump on the hype train and if one isn’t objective enough can be led by these giant corporations who do not give a crap about these properties. There are films I absolutely love yet still recognise their faults and shortcomings completely. As I always tell my friends “look, i wanna love it just as much as you do, but we gotta be just, objective, less impulsive and recognise how much power the brand name has over us.” A very engaging documentary. Never support the Disney SW. They betrayed the people whose money they used to build their empire.

I love how there is basically no commentary for the "Last Jedi" section. He just lets the shocked and appalled fans tell the sad story.

I grew up watching the prequel trilogy. It's my introduction to Star Wars so i really loved it. I also watched the original 2D clone wars series and played many Star wars games on PlayStation. This was my childhood. It took me years to realize that there were problems with it specially comparing them to the original trilogy. But i still love them. Now watching Disney's star Wars reinforces my bias that the prequels is a great piece of science fiction storytelling and one of the best series of all times. The worst possible explanation is that JJ actually knew what he was doing. The best case scenario for him was that he's completely incompetent as a writer.

25:35: Just realised - now - Kathleen Kennedy's greatest "ability" (according to Spielberg's own words) is that she can interrupt people in the flow of something (whether an idea being brainstormed or a plot point) to put her view in but mainly to throw people off guard. It seems Hamill wasn't willing to play possum and, due to legal issues, couldn't say it but hinted his message to the fans. Well played, Mark, well played.

So sad to see how much hope and passion everyone, the fans, the actors and people working on the production, had for this new trilogy when it began, only for it to be thrown away and replaced with disappointment, bitterness and sorrow.

One thing that bothered me was that we never really saw Luke's full capability as a Jedi or his full knowledge of the force besides that he was skilled with a light saber.

Whatever Mark's disagreements with Rian Johnson's view of Luke Skywalker were, Mark is a professional actor who turned in an amazing, forlorn, tormented performance as Luke in Last Jedi, the deepest performance I've seen Mark deliver. That said, this wasn't the movie we were looking for...

So much respect for Mark Hamill. In this world of corporate hacks selling nostalgia bait to shallow, obediently consuming manchildren, he's a shining beacon speaking out for actual quality. It's rare that an actor actually embodies the hero they play irl, but he should definitely be considered one, because it's not easy or risk free to speak out against the corrupt all-engulfing Disney system.

Three things we didn't get in the sequel trilogy that is a criminal misuse of the property: 1. A treatment of Luke, Leia, and Han that respects their arcs and contributions from the original trilogy and actually gives them a scene together. 2. Luke's Jedi Academy and the presence of many Jedi and other force users, which would be the only logical extension of Luke having such an Academy. 3. Any amount of logical world building to explain the state of the galaxy, the New Republic, and the Imperial Remnants. The fact that the First Order in The Force Awakens is actually more powerful than the Empire was in Return of the Jedi is simply not an acceptable extension of the franchise and fundamentally damages the story of the previous 6 films.

The best thing about this trilogy, is that it's over.

I'm currently watching this fantastic documentary for a 3rd time. It's a shame there's so much more love in this video than the entire sequel trilogy that destroyed the franchise we loved for 50 years.

I’m trying to forget these movies. There are only 6 Star Wars movies. They ended in 2005 with Episode III - a fantastic movie, by the way.

The more one learns about JJ Abrams, the more twisted it is to see him do or say anything. I'm starting the documentary right now so I don't know how much it covers this, but learning about what he did behind closed doors and lying about it is disgusting!

I appreciate the sequels for one reason: They showed the world how GOOD the prequels actually were. And I saw TFA 5 times in theaters! I saw the other 2 movies once a piece in theaters. Those movies were indigestible. Oh, and Rogue One is the BEST Star Wars movie since the Originals!!

It’s amazing to see how tFA was marketed and received initially. I won’t pretend I wasn’t fooled myself, but when you realize how deceptive JJ was from the start is really almost sinister. You can see that the story was pretty much inconsequential. This is a trilogy created by committee.

25:23 I think this is what a lot of people miss about the Force Awakens. JJ thought so little of Luke and relegated him to a hermit. It was where it all started. It ruined the original trilogy characters by regressing them and invalidating their past victories. It brought back the empire and gave us a Vader clone. There was no world building and if you think of the end of 6 and beginning 7 it doesn't make sense. Leah became a failed general and Han left his family to be a smuggler. JJ is at the heart of this problem. But everyone pins it on Rian who had to pick up the mess JJ created. He made a bunch of mystery boxes that would not lead to anything interesting. Because we were rehashing everything. But it's easy to make it all about The Last Jedi.

Mark Hammil held back better than I would have in those interviews.

These movies aren't cannon. Undoing Vader's sacrifice proves it.

better than the precuels....... ja ja ja what prequels done? give context to the rise of the empire, show the fall of anakin skywalker, introduce a lot of new worlds like naboo, curuscant,geonosis,camino,mustafar even the concep of the sith was an all new way to see those jedi who fell to the dark side. and finally the prequel trilogy makes the original trilogy even better. what sequels done? first a remake of episode 4 that establishes broken new characters, second a middle finger on the face of the fans and his beloved legacy characters, three prostitution of the force and what it means, finally the complete destruction of the canon and the two most important characters for the complete saga luke and anakin. the sequel trilogy just trashes the original trilogy.

I'm 55, and consider myself more of a Trekkie and a Whovian than a dyed-in-the-wool Star Wars fan. That said, I am more than happy to dip into this universe and enjoy it. Episodes 4,5 & 6, though having a few minor flaws, are clearly the benchmark for the series; the prequels, maybe not always the best realised of movies, nonetheless have a great story to tell. This sequel trilogy though, is a complete mess - there is no guiding mind behind an over-arching storyline; TFA and TLJ are just poor re-imaginings of episodes 4 & 5, TROS is an ill-conceived knee-jerk attempt to correct the errors arising from that. With a few exceptions (like John Favreau on the Mandalorian series, and the writers for Star Wars Rogue One), it seems a lot of today's film-makers/writers lack the originality and creativity to be able to work within an existing mythology - they don't know how to tell a good story. It is true of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, it is true of Star Trek Discovery, and it is true of much of modern Dr Who; all franchises that are being dismantled and diminished by this generation of talentless, self-proclaimed "creatives" who just want to re-imagine, retcon or re-boot - because it's easier. But "easier" isn't good story-telling...

I'm 50 this year. Saw the original in the theater the week it opened. At 12 minutes into this, I'm teary eyed at how excited I was for a new trilogy, and how devistated I am at what they did. Rogue One was so damn good. I never ended up seeing solo or episode 9. I may never. Goodbye Star Wars. Goodbye childhood. Goodbye.

You know, I saw this a few months ago and I pointed out an error. But I never commented on the overall video--it's very well put together. And it points out the major flaws, the fan reactions, the shift in responsibility (apparently, it's the fans' fault for not liking crappy movies), and how badly of a franchise killer this was. I really liked this documentary and think you did a fine job. And despite the one little thing I had commented on previously, I really appreciate you taking the time to show Mark Hamill's disappointment, because I've been a fan of Luke and Mark since I was 9. I think Mark Hamill will always be considered as having fallen on the right side of things after all was said and done with these movies. Luke Skywalker? Not so much, unfortunately. But at least Mark kept it real on a personal level.

I was always pissed off and confused about why they never did Timothy Zahn's trilogy! Those books are AWESOME ... great continuity to the original trilogy and make perfect sense!

No-one talks about the fact that the people who made these films are all fine - it’s the people who watched them who were hurt.

I remember The Last Jedi toy sales not doing well and contributing to the fall of Toys R Us. Their closing felt like the final nail in the coffin for me and Star Wars. It was all just sad.
