When you're alone and life is making you lonely, you can always go to the Dock. When you've got that warm feeling and all the noise and the hurry seems to help, you can go to the Dock. Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city, linger on the sand where everyone is pretty. How can you lose? The lights are not brighter there so you can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares, and go to the Dock. Things will be great, there's no finer place, everything's waiting for you at the Dock.

TO BE FAIR ABOUT THE COFFEE THING: It was an elderly lady who was handed a coffee with a loose lid that spilled in her lap and gave her *third degree burns.* She asked McDonald’s to pay for her medical bills (there was a lot of very serious damage to the skin of her legs and groin which required surgeries - plural; the coffee was far, far above a safe temp). They refused, so her lawyer went after their throat and they paid wayyy more than medical bills. The joke of “oh what a dumb lawsuit” is a PR spin as far as I can tell, that makes McDonald’s look like the victim. All of this to attack one elderly lady rather than say they - or that store - shouldn’t have 200 degree or whatever coffee.

That's so messed up. I remember being in the fourth grade and my teacher played it during our end of the year dance party and my 60 something year old teacher, me and the other 9 year olds HAD A BLAST. It's so weird to think that adults would have seen anything wrong with this. There was so much nine year old air guitar and hair flipping. My teacher also made us sing achey breaky heart which I remember less fondly :D

Hi friends, Trixie and Katya made a lighthearted reference to the extremely famous McDonald’s case where she sued because the coffee was too hot. I just wanted to let you know that that extremely famous case has been heavily misrepresented in the media. That poor woman received extreme burns on her body because the coffee spilled was way hotter than we use now. That’s because the temperature that McDonald’s USED to heat it’s coffee to was obscene. They had a huge media campaign to downplay it and changed their internal policies so that this wouldn’t happen again. That being said, that’s how it SHOULD have worked. She sued and they changed policy. It’s egregious that we can’t enact gun legislation in this godforsaken country when we have proven time and time again that our current policies are getting people killed.
@ellellio

Thank you for adding context! Unfortunately so many people don’t know the truth about what happened which is horrible considering the physical injuries this woman suffered and the subsequent emotional distress caused by McDonald’s legal team trying to smear her credibility instead of being held accountable. The documentary Hot Coffee was really eye opening and I hope more people learn just how tragic a situation this was.

We were able to let our 17 yr old terrier who hated car rides and the vet, go quietly, wrapped up in his favorite blanket, on our bed. Yep, was coming here to point this out here too, I work with a law firm. McDonald's frequently serves coffee past boiling point so if a lid malfunctions and it pours on the hand you can get 2nd to 3rd degree burns from it. And because the lid has a warning, it reduces their liability and duty of care to the coffee drinker. Tis fuckt.
@NextToToddliness

@@Alex-rx1ni They also did it so they could keep the coffee longer, which on top of the injuries, is just shady af. I also wouldn't be surprised if McDonald's spent millions trying to ridicule and harass this woman in smear campaigns. I remember all the talkshow hosts made fun of it for years.

The "doggie death doula" event Katya described is exactly what I went through with my doggie almost 2 years ago. She spoke very softly, shaved his paw to put his pawprint in plaster, had some trouble getting the needle in because his veins were weak, but then it happened. Complete and utter heartbreak, the worst pain I've ever felt in my entire life. Sobbing over his body. We just sat with him for a while and she gave us privacy to take our time. Eventually he was wrapped up in a blanket and put on a gurney-type thing and taken out to the back of her car and she drove away with him. Not when my grandparents died, not when my parents divorced (maybe), had I ever felt this kind of heartbreak. I didn't know what to do with myself, I felt so unmoored and untethered and devastated. I felt like I didn't know how to keep living. I and my other family members just kept crying the rest of the day, and I think I cried every day for a week or so after. Dogs truly are precious, and when they've been your family for such a long time, it's just devastating. ANYWAY, back to the gaggery and goopery of drag~ lol

Unfortunately mobile homes are expensive as well. Even older ones that used to cost $10,000-$20,000, now cost $75,000-$150,000. My aunt and uncle bought a massive plot of land and was going to put a modular home on there. The modular and double-wide (two trailers put together) would cost them $175,000-$250,000 sadly. I grew up in a trailer my whole life and know the feeling of shame I had with it. But I was so so fortunate to have a stable home and while we were poor, we were happy and loved.

I will say that manufactured homes and prefabs have gone WAY UP in popularity where I live and nobody says a damn thing about it because we all understand hey, shit's hard. Shoot, I know a couple who sold their house and tons of their stuff to get out of debt and when their situation finally stabilized they decided "fuck it, we'll work remote, get an RV and go wherever we want". If I didn't have kids (or collections to display like the nerd I am) I would probably love to do that, frankly.

We had our family dog put down last week just as Katya described. My dog was ancient at 16 so it was his time to go. It was bone achingly sad and I cried for hours straight. But the vet that came to do it was so lovely and calm too. She put my dog in the back of the car and drove off so quickly as well that part made me laugh.

Someone tell Trixie that there are first-time-homebuyer programs everywhere in the US. They might not be as easy to access in LA… Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are NATIONAL RESOURCES! Also people who are looking to move upwards on the property ladder don’t want to buy mobile homes because their values are volatile and will likely depreciate rather than appreciate. This makes mortgage lenders less likely to write a loan for one. They have a lot more restrictions than single family homes or condos.

@@akerr5823 omg don’t even get me started on Canadian mortgages!!! I am a Canadian expat from PEI. My American husband and I were asking my Canadian family members about how mortgages work there on our last visit. It’s insane how biased towards the banks the Canadian mortgage industry is. That’s an area that’s ripe for reform! Consumers have rights too and current circumstances seems unfair.

Mobile home parks have been getting shut down left and right in Phoenix. The land/park owners sell of the parks and the people keeping their trailers there have like 180 days to find a new place to live. And sometimes the owners try to fight that and end up with less time to find a new place after they lose in court.

Travel Trailers, Yes, mobile homes, no. i think her point is that compared paying rent or for a dorm, where you're throwing money away in exchange for zero ownership of any tangible asset, you can make similar or cheaper monthly payments on loan and end up actually OWNING a travel trailer, RV, or house boat. Once it's paid off -- in like 5 years of $500 a month if your trailer cost a middle-of-the-road $30,000, plus utitlities and that's stilla way better price than I could get in my area for rent rn- you can start putting that same amount in SAVINGS towards a down payment on a house. And all the while you don't have to worry about getting evicted with no warning. Painfully true that buying anything like a NEW new camper or car, is accepting that driving it off the lot reduces its value by an unpleasant amount of digits. I'd live in a hole before i drove anything off a lot

Phoenix is really something else with their apartment prices. (I live outside Phoenix in a nearby city and don't even get me started on the apartments here and how people here think affordable apartments equal rampant crime.) Tralier homes are largely a scam because if you agree to buying one you're subjected to trailer park property owners messing with you, and the trailers don't appreciate in value so ya end up sinking money into it without being able to own property or a home. There was a really good episode on John Oliver about it.

I am also very passionate about the housing crisis. All of the points were made, except for the epidemic of companies buying all the 200k houses, flipping them and then putting them up for rent..eating up the housing market! Also.. I was absolutely the 25 year old to buy a used 20k trailer…and I still spent all my money on stupid shit! And I’d do it again! But I agree, I wish it was more normalized *and* accessible. Most mobile home communities, even in small towns, are expensive as fuck or 55+.
