It’s November 25th, 1993. Were at Texas Stadium for a Thanksgiving day showdown between the hometown Dallas Cowboys and the visiting Miami Dolphins. Dallas controls the game with a one-point lead but Miami’s lining up for a field goal in the final seconds. A booming kick could give the Dolphins a chance to gobble up a statement win against the defending Super Bowl Champions. Before we witness what comes next, there’s so much to unpack. To do that, we need to rewind

Later after the game Leon Lett got a letter from a little girl that said "Don't feel bad Leon. Last year during the Superbowl a player was going score a touchdown only to slow down and fumble the ball so everyone makes mistakes." The player who fumbled in the Superbowl was Leon Lett.

The story on why Thanksgiving football didn't take off in St. Louis is rather interesting. The NFL was unaware that the city had its own Thanksgiving football tradition with the Turkey Day Game and many in the area viewed the league's move as an attempt to upstage the long-established high school matchup. Along with both NFL contests being one-sided, the city's residents got their way and the NFL retreated, letting the Turkey Day Game continue.

It's telling that in their last three games Miami gave up 47, 45, and 33 points - the only times that season they gave up more than 27 points. By that point they'd lost their only good CB (Vincent), their starting FS (Oliver), and their starting MLB (Offerdahl) to injuries on a defense with no depth. They also Mike Golic (yes, that Mike Golic) starting at DT in his last NFL season as a mid-season injury replacement, and never had a good 3rd starting LB. All capped off by one of the worst punters (both gross and net averages) and weakest running games (25th out of 28 teams) in the league.

Is leon lett known for three Super Bowl wins or 2 bone head moves? I didn't even know he won three Super Bowls until I just read it in the comments but I did know about the Super Bowl fumble and of course slide into the ball in Dallas

Shame he blew out his knee in 1994. He was looking like possibly best RB Miami had in a decade, and he was a good receiver out of the backfield too.

I lived in Houston and it even snowed there. That was one of the coldest fronts in Texas history

Remember this like it was yesterday. Bent leg Leon sliding into the ball to give “don’t you know who I am” Stoyanovich another shot. Leon was a great player, he just wasn’t the smartest or didn’t always think things through.
