I have a soft spot for this story for exactly the reason you identified, the main cast. I also kinda love the Dominator costume just because of how silly and 60s it is. I'd probably rate it a solid 3 stars, just because I find enough humor in it to enjoy it. Maybe a 2.5 stars at a shove. Can't wait to see your review of the Mind Robber!

I’m happy to be in the minority on this one, I think this is a blast. And I think your head cannon makes it better. But I have a really good time watching this one

I'm only old enough to remember Jo Grant getting sprayed by the daffodil in terror of the autons but my older brother remembers Troughton and he used to go on about the quarks all the time and how scary they were. Obviously watching this as an adult they rather fail as a villain but you can't predict what a 7 year old kid finds frightening.

I quite like The Dominators, I wouldn’t say its amazing but found it surprisingly entertaining last time I watched it. It might be that I find the Quarks cute I really have thing for cute robots. Also I agree with you on Zoe she just slots as if she has always been here.

I think the effect used to convey the Quark weapons killing the Dulcians at the start of the story is nastily effective.

I love your idea that this is the Dominators first invasion. Whether it can get me through this story next time I watch - I doubt it. I like the Dominators, it’s the Dulcians who live up to their name. Dull characters in stupid outfits. I have a fondness for the Quarks but this is probably more to do with their TV Comic adventures. Another nice point is the brutal death of the first visitors to the island. However it is five episodes of numbing boredom even worse than Wheel. So 11 episodes of well below par Who (bar the regulars). Surely we are due for something good soon.

I was going to re-watch this but frankly couldn’t be arsed because it really is dull (I watched Inferno instead 😁👍) very pleased you have the same love and nostalgia for Mind Robber as we probably both first saw it on BBC 2 back in the day. I effing love it!

You'll be glad to hear that a) the whole Dominators of the Twelve Galaxies is pure propaganda, as the LS range lays out, b) the events of Dulkis are a cautionary tale for the Fleet. I think you'd enjoy, in particular, Nick Walters' Mutually Assured Domination. One goal I had when I commissioned that novel, and the subsequent use of the Dominators, was to redeem this particular Who adventures and show there was a reason the Dominators are so, frankly, crap. - AFA

This was such a weak start to Troughtons final season unfortunately. It is just such a boring story. However it is followed by one of my favourite stories The Mind Robber. I am super excited to see your opinion on that one. I am even more excited to see your recap video of the whole season. My prediction is that Susan will finally be knocked off the top 10 companions list by Zoe

I actually like The Dominators would work better as a 4 parter. I know it was reduced from 6 to 5 I wonder what the missing episode would of been like. The Quarks are alright and quite like them. The Dominators are egoed big bullies and get everything what came to them 😂.
