Well guys, this video made me sad to make. This was, at one point, my favorite show, and I hate to see it fall from grace. But season 15 has been pretty bad so far, so let's talk about it, shall we?

Supernatural seasons 1-5 were gold. Top tier television. It was scary , heartfelt, fun , dark and epic. It embraced this “ southern gothic “ style with its atmosphere and cinematography. After that … Oof 😥. Season 8 was a welcome return. But that’s really all I can give credit for after season 5. Season 6 was messy and totally ruins the end of 5 but is watchable . Season 7 is goofy and over the top but it is fun and doesn’t deserve the hate.

Lack of consequences is probably one of the two reasons I stopped watching Supernatural. I started watching it when it was a dark fantasy show that could actually scare you a bit and it was my favourite show and the show I grew up with, but watching it now is just painful. There's no point worrying about characters, even less important ones. But the second reason and the one which eventually prompted me to stop watching was the show creating bigger and badder evils after season 5. I mean, the biblical apocalypse was supposed to the the ultimate scariest moment of the show, no? But then they created leviathans out of nowhere, then there was God's sister, which was so ridiculous I just gave up. Bloody Mary in season 1 was scarier than all of the antagonists after season 5. And the show also leaned into comedy too much. Angels and demons were scary once. Now every child with a fork can kill them. Lucifer (especially Jared's version) was genuinely creepy. They turned him into a whiny child. I will watch the ending on KZfaq, but I consider Swan Song the only one true Supernatural ending. Everything else is just making money for the sake of making money.

Great point. Early 5 seasons of Supernatural were filled with dread and hopelessness. You always felt like there's no happy ending, that these guys are facing against something way bigger than them. It really gave the show a unique edge that kept it great. After defeating Devil, I just couldn't care less anymore and worse writing was even more apparent.

Season 5 was my favorite, especially the horsemen episodes. Reminds me, in Good God, Y’all (S5, ep 2) seconds before they ruthlessly hacked off Roger’s fingers, he said “you can’t kill War kiddos” which makes sense since the horsemen are concepts not beings. But under “season 15 logic” God could remove any of those concepts from the Earth including Death. Or can he?
@unconcernedcitizen4092
@unconcernedcitizen4092 3 жыл бұрын
Well, presumably, if he removed all life from the universe, he would necessarily remove all death from the universe. Further, the rest of the Horsemen are sort of “secondary” concepts. Death is a necessary implication of mortal life, whereas war, famine, and plague are not necessary implications of mortal life, at least not in the same way.

Don't let it ruin the show for you, they've done this to every show destroyed the last 1 to 3 seasons intentionally cos of the greed of the execs. Most of the rest of the stuff is great up until season 10, it's not as great as i always believed though while the show was airing and i was totally under it's spell and season 4 is pretty boring if not a bit too gory on some episodes and i can see why it had to change... the whole horror movie thing started to get tiresome. I've just finished rewatching season 4 now and honestly i'm glad it's going to lighten up from season 5 now and not be incredibly dark and we'll meet Charlie YAY! i mean it's awesome but there's also only so long you can keep it like that too before it starts to drag you down. I also find they made them struggle a little too much especially in season 4 my god that was a climb and a half to the end *sigh* that was almost as bad as how they couldn't build a story very well in x-files lol and SPN was pretty inspired by it. So it's a good thing the show changed to a lighter vibe, i don't think it should've ended after season 5 cos it still had life in it and it still had 5 more years of a lot of cool stories, after season 10 though definitely should've ended cos i was finally getting sick of the winchesters lol but if you can look past it's flaws and the fact it's not really leading to anything it's a really fun show to watch.

I stopped watching at the end of season 14 and honestly I became so tired out of the show. I think this show was strongest in the first 3 seasons when it was still grounded and focused on the two brothers hunting more “urban legend” type monsters. I think once the angels and demons stuff began in season 4 it raised the stakes which led to a snowball effect in future seasons where the writers had to continuously introduce bigger and bigger threats into the show, leading to more and more contradictions to previously established lore.

I didn't like how killing monsters became so easy. Starting in Season 5, you just stab any demon to death with a knife, which made the Winchesters stronger than demons. You'd think demons would be smart and skilled enough to adapt to combating that knife. And if Ruby made that knife, you'd also think other demons would've invented their own cutting edge weapons.

I just binge watched all the seasons after not watching it since season 6 and I really agree with your points. My main issue through the show was the lack of character development especially with Sam and Dean. Whenever they did experience some it would disappear a few episodes later. I even found myself disliking Dean in later seasons because of the inconsistencies with his character. Most of the time he was dismissive of other people and super angry but then for random one off "funny" episodes his personality would take a 360 where he would be cracking jokes, smiling lots etc. I found this really made it hard for myself to fully me immersed into what they were feeling through the show because they were no consistency. There's also the fact that they ruined some great characters (like crowley and cas) because they didn't know what to do with them so they gave them the most random or awful storylines.

I watched the show since way back in 2005 & it should have ended with Season 5. One of the most perfect finales in TV history. God it went downhill fast after that. Don't get me wrong it had a few decent Seasons after Kripke's tenure ended with the show. But it NEVER reached the levels of the first 5 Seasons. That could be because there were ZERO stakes in later Seasons. EVERY cast member, including recurring cast members had died & came back at one point before the show limped to the finish line. *Jumping The Shark* is a thing, in Supernatural's case they jumped the shark went back & shot it then f*cked its corpse

All the problems you mention are due to the fact they made it up as they went along... not a fixed ending like the wire or breaking bad where the story was pushed to a conclusion. Supernatural was milked for every penny and at some point not even all these filler episodes where they chased the beast of the week, was enough to cover up the fact that there was nothing left to be told anymore. Less truly is more ... I mean I remember when they introduced Castiel , he was a badd ass ( " I'm an angel of the lord") ... later he just got bitch slapped throughout every episode. Cool characters like Cain were barely used and dismissed/killed off very quick ...instead of weaving him into a larger plotline that actually makes sense ... heck even regular demons were formidable foes at one point. And don't get me started about these repetitive roundabout dialogues between sam and dean... luckily on these streaming platforms you can just skip that empty emo babble
@FlyingMonkies325
@FlyingMonkies325 8 ай бұрын
The thing is they were going to continue the Cain story line, Deanmon wasn't really Dean turned into a demon because when they miraculously "cured" Dean so easily (which was far too easy and Cas and Sam thought so too) Cas was looking at demon possession books which Sam saw when he walked into the bunker and said "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it". And there was so much foreshadowing that it was Cain from the hairdo that was the same Cain was sporting when they first met him, to the fighting moves which was the same and even had the same blind spot where he never saw the knife coming at his face which Dean also did to him when he fought him. They totally were going to go in that direction, unfortunately the actor had a stroke in 2017 which effected his ability to walk and he was asked about it if he was gonna play Cain again and he said yeh he's loved to of gone back but unfortunately had the stroke. Everyone says i'm nuts for seeing all that though no fans talk about the clear foreshadowing cos apparently it isn't there when it totally is lol. The god story line wasn't going to get better though and i think no matter how Cain may have improved the story warner bros would've still destroyed season 15 cos it's what they do, i mean you saw the game of thrones ending too right?, i was still heartbroken though cos they actually did touch SPN we just all hoped they wouldn't.

It at least made sense in the earlier seasons beacuse they weren't objectively evil, and more so were a complex and nuanced faction with their own understandable goals. However I can agree with you in the middle and later seasons, as they're mostly just in as a source of drama and conflict. Plus adding god as an on screen character was an idiotic choice as his absence from the story was one of the most important parts of the plot itself.

I absolutely loved and ADORED Supernatural. At one time, it was my favorite show. I really enjoyed the first 6 seasons. At the time, I was not a huge fan of S7, but look back on it w/more fondness than before though the Leviathan were not good enemies. For me, the Carver seasons 8-10 (I guess . . I quit the show sometime in S10) drove away all my love for the show. I hated the contrived, forced conflict btw the brothers. I hated that Carver made the stupid decision of not letting Sam look for Dean after S7, made up a rule btw them for that exact situation, but then endlessly had characters punishing and berating Sam for keeping their promise! It was complete and utter nonsense. Bad Boys in S9 was retconned trash! Dean was in that group home, wanting a normal life but then a few years later, he's upset w/Sam for wanting the same and not understanding why Sam wanted that!?!!? That made no sense and turned Dean into a massive hypocrite. Don't even get me started on how this most recent young Winchester episode further messed up the boys' history. Plus, every Carver season had some inexplicable, contrived drama btw the boys! It was beyond annoying. At the time, I remember thinking, they were each way too old to be hanging together if they couldn't stand each other! Just go your separate ways already! I didn't finish S10 and skipped all of S11. I heard Mary was brought back so I tuned in for S12. I came to HATE Mary. The BMOL were awful. And the rest of the seasons have been pretty much a blur. I have not been playing close attention. I often miss episodes and don't bother to try to re-watch them. So, I think the show started to decline in S8. Sera Gamble's seasons (6 and 7) were a good continuation of the story, but things began to decline in S8 and it's been a steady decline since, IMO.

Sera Gambles Era was super underrated. It was able to establish additions to the lore without compromising the consistency of its presentation in the earlier seasons or retconning. Not to mention Demons and Angels still acted like Demons and Angel's instead of corporate lackeys. Crowley was also at his peak Some of the character storylines (Cas's decent into villainy, Bobby's Death) were also much more engaging for me then what followed.

Agree quite a lot with you, for me, though, the greatest tragedy of this show is what they did to angels and demons, and how they nerfed them and made them into jokes. Before, angels and demons were scary and intimidating, especially angels, they were fearsome and nobody wanted to mess with them, whenever a single angel stood in a room with various other characters, the entire room had to keep on gaurd and hope they don't piss off the angel, now, the angels fight like idiots, they always turn their backs on their enemies for some reason, everyone can kill them, they started giving them a bunch of stupid weaknesses, teenagers can kick their asses etc, it just started to lose its way.

For me, seasons 1 through 6 were peak Supernatural, with seasons 1 through 5 being pure greatness, season 6 was great, but it wasn't exactly on the same level as the previous 5 seasons, season 7 was quite bad on Cable TV, but I forced myself through it, season 8 was good, season 9, however? Made me quit, I gave up on Supernatural for years after that, and didn't watch any other season until a few episodes into season 13, I remember season 13 starting off really strong, actually, but midway through, it devolved right back to standard post-season 6 goofy Supernatural nonsense, season 14 was alright, I guess, didn't care too much for Dean+Micheal, but we got it, and well, saw a few episodes of season 15 only because it was gonna be its last season, but couldn't finish it.

One of the worst things was first, tricking death. An unimaginable old being. It doesn't even get tricked, it's just he get attacked with his own scythe and dies. So death isn't one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful being in the universe, but his old scythe is? It's like saying God is only strong because he has some magical item and if you take it, you could become god or while he still is god, you could kill him with this item. Thats the dumbest thing in the whole series. These incompetent dumb ass writers should have been sentences to life for that.

Agree but they seem to do that with everything, hype it up then underwhelming in the end making them unscary, and being quite inspired by the x-files this is exactly how their writing was if not it was bad their inability to build the story up well on it, they did great building a story in supernatural but... it was built up for what feels like not much like it was with x-files. It's why people who quit after season 5 just call it a fun hunter show cos it is definitely just that just like x-files was just a show about finding the truth about aliens but in the end they never really got what they were looking for cos mulder left, now the magic has faded a bit it's not as great as i thought but it's still a whole lot of fun watching it.

Such a good video essay even though (and maybe especially) since it was made before the finale. They really dug themselves into so many holes with the lack of consequences and lowering the stakes on a lot of big lore/worldbuilding aspects. Like you said: God killing Jack could be undone, God killing Billie only meant another Reaper would be made Death, etc. "Really cool concept that opens up a lot of questions" is the best summary of it. I also totally agree Season 11 would've been a great ending point. While there's a lot about S11 I don't like, I LOVE the ending of it. "Don't Call Me Shurley" is one of my favorite episodes and was such a good way to introduce/reintroduce God into the story. And the fact that it ended with God & Amara talking and making amends and not just killing the big bad...that was HUGE. Every season seems so focused on killing or shooting the problem, but it would have been so much more satisfying (and creative) for it to it ending peacefully and with no bloodshed. That's hard to do right and they would've been able to pull it off. Dean's goodbyes before going to his almost-death in the S11 finale was so much more emotional than his actual goodbye in the series finale.

Season 9 was the one that made me think it was dying. I started watching during season 2 and was AVID. Still am on the older stuff lol. Season 9 made me quit watching the show all together because of they pretty much destroyed their characterizations, personal developments, mental ability, and previously established lore. Dean was a lying sloot, sam was an oblivious goodie, and cas was dumb and oooo sooooo funny now! Mainly because the best writers on the show got pushed out. I mean I could get passed the minor fuck ups (Dean as a kid and talking about creatures he hadn't know existed until he was an adult lol), but season 9 felt like a completely different cast of characters, unlikable ones at that. Not to mention that the show introduces actual good characters and then kills them ASAP for the lowest hanging fruit of emotional abuse. Bringing Mary back was dumb but thank God Mr. "I abuse my kids but it's for a good cause and I'm a great dad, I promise!" John didn't come back. I just want all 3 of the boys to have a good ending. There are plenty that leave me scratching my head wondering if the writers even know what they are doing anymore? Like my least favorite season was 9, Dean found out the trials would kill Sam so he convinced Sam to stop and the season ended. I was like "Eh! What? This is what they've been building too all season and the end is them literally going: K let's not do that." Drove me crazy such a pointless ending. Thankfully season 10 got things back on track. Yeah they probably should have wrapped up after 11. Though kinda glad they didn't as some of my favorite episodes came from seasons 12-15. Heh crazy show, still love it though. Great video dude. 👍

Season 6 was rough, I was barley engaged but pushed through hoping it was just a mid season due to having to follow such a strong act. It seems like they had nothing else and so they left the god story for a while to save it for ending the show, but since the show was already so rooted in angels and god then it wouldn't have made sense to go with anything else either. How bad the last season was is just cos that's what they've been doing for a while with shows now, we do not get an ending they're non-existent cos they intentionally sabotaged them all since 2013/2014 apart from the rare time like the show Grimm that had a pretty good ending, still underwhelming but they were somehow unscathed lol. Now though it's just like they aren't trying to even get the first season of a show to be good cos they're trying to turn them into hollywood movies, just google new tv shows and look at the promo posters, the titles, and the descriptions of them... they're like cheap cringy hollywood movies. But there's no more ideas either like... supernatural was one of the last great things to write about and then everyone realized there's nothing left to do. Jack was just a means to an end and i saw that immediately and knew they were gonna make him god and that's how predictable the show became from season 11 onwards, i feel like at that point it was just what everyone was used to doing with their lives that they didn't want to let it go, but they knew they had to cos it got so bad lol. Even they were still heartbroken about what CW did even when they probs knew what was coming, i just don't think they could believe they would dare touch it like i couldn't and other people, but they dared and after that Warner Bros ditched CW lol it's not been doing great since.

A bit late with this comment since this came out nearly 2 years ago but I've recently gotten back into supernatural and I have some things to say after it's ending. Firstly, I agree with every point made in this video especially regarding the consequences. Despite it's constant use I never found it unbearable, probably because I actually enjoyed/didn't mind seasons 4 -11, however seasons 12-15 took it to an extreme to a point in which by the finale season I was just annoyed. "Oh no Jack lost his grace!" He got it back. "Jack's dead?!" He's alive again. "Dean's possessed by Michael?!" Everything is fine and we're barely into the season. It got exhausting and I could barely take it seriously anymore. Season 15 as a whole felt like an entire Fuck You to everyone who actually gave a shit about the show and did take it seriously. I don't like season 12 but Crowley's death hurt like a bitch because of the fact he didn't come back, Castiel's death hurt a lot too but bringing him back so early felt a bit off to me, or the fact they brought him back at all. Don't get me wrong, I would've hated to see him gone but it would have actually had an impact on the audience and especially characters like Dean and Sam. Expanding on this, I actually didn't mind season 13 as a whole, we got Cas back, I enjoyed how innocent and Cas-like Jack was and the first few episodes where we watched Dean grieve hit like a ton bricks. Saying this, the reunion between the brothers and Castiel was very underwhelming to me especially since Dean had been an absolute wreck partially because of his death. But from then on, every reunion or emotional moment seemed stagnant to me and so far from the heartbreaking performances we used to get not even a few seasons prior. Cas returns to the bunker with the brothers, meets his child who he hasn't even seen before because he was dead, hugs him and then they go on a normal hunting trip. OK??? Lastly, I just wanna talk about Castiel and the shows constant disrespect towards him as a character (something I would have loved to hear your take on however this did come out before the ending so who cares) I only started watching supernatural in December of 2015, I vividly remember binging it all through new years with my family and it became a thing for me and my dad to watch. However, the reason I started watching it was because of Castiel specifically thanks to my friend talking about him a lot and me going on to watch clips of him on KZfaq. Obviously he ended up being my favorite (which remains true to this day.) So you can understand my disappointment of the way the show treated him towards it's ending. Yes I'm talking about 15x18. To say the confession scene surprised people is an understatement, I had stopped watching the show mid season 15 because of how unwatchable it got but as soon as I heard about THAT scene I had to watch it. And it was bad. Don't get me wrong, Misha's performance was great and you can tell now that he was putting everything into this finale goodbye to Dean and to the audience, but the implications of it and the episodes after it were downright disrespectful. What I mean by implications is that, whether you're a destiel shipper or not, to have a 'male' character confess their love to another male character and then have him immediately die is comical, not only this but I couldn't help but feel the writers did this in order to try and finally silence fans who they've been making fun of behind the scenes for years, so they could have their cake and eat it too. Honestly, despite how hilarious the situation was (and still is to me) I wouldn't have cared...I would have been ok with it despite everything as long as they acknowledged it in the next episode and we got to see the characters deal with the loss of somebody close to them. EXCEPT THAT BARELY HAPPENED There's barely any mention of Cas, barely any reaction from his close family and I guess you could say it's because they were still dealing with God and everyone disappearing, but after that's sorted he is still barely mentioned!! Deans reaction to Castiels death in the season 12 finale is leagues above season 15, and this time Cas doesn't even come back!!! This might just sound like an angry destiel shipper getting pissed off I didn't get the end I specifically wanted but that's just not true, I just wanted Castiel to finally be treated with respect by the writers after constantly being dealt a bad hand, hell they didn't even give cas/misha a public send off after his death just to keep fans waiting to see if he would return in the last episodes. I'm not even gonna go into the abysmal finale, probably because I haven't seen all of it but I just wanna briefly mention how utter garbage I think Sam and Dean's endings were. This could just be a nitpick but having a characters true ending, a character who has been hinted as suicidal more than once, be dying on a rusty nail baffles me. Not only that but Dean died the exact same way he would have if the events of the series had never happened, on a hunt. Sam died of old age after living a normal life, the same way he would off if he had never left college to go look for his dad with Dean. It's as thought all those years of character development were for nothing. I'm far from the only one who hates their endings, even Jensen has made it clear he doesn't like it but I still find it incredibly sad even a year later. Anyway that's my rant over. All in all I still look at this show fondly but also with vague distaste after it's heartless finale

I literally commented about this 9 days ago, but I'm changing my mind, I just binge watched through all 3 end seasons of the show 13-15, and honestly wow. What a difference it has made, going back and watching the show a year or so after seeing the ending, first time around I hated it, worst ending to an even worse show in the end, it had become what I thought at the time a joke, something to laugh at and to become mind numbingly bored and frustrated with, but after going back and rewatching it with fresh eyes, the ending was honestly really good, the last three seasons had pretty much nothing wrong with them beyond minor annoyances, the detective work wasn't as lack luster as I thought in the end, they still showed the gore and overall it had the same DNA the show had back when it started, it didn't stagnate our ability to watch and enjoy it did, years of obsessing with the show for myself had ruined it, so it wouldn't matter what ending it had because I wouldn't enjoy it after binging it non stop for so long, in the end the show didn't get the fan appeal it deserved, I think it ended on a nice high note, they got everything they wanted, no more demons or monsters to fight, no more big bad, just Sam Dean, their mum and dad and Bobby and all of their other friends in heaven together for eternity, an eternal rest that they deserve after what, 8 in universe years of non stop battling and fighting and scraping by, this show was amazing, and the ending wasn't that bad at all, we all just got tired of the slight annoyances that built up season to season and cumulated into one big annoyance with the show.

I have a personal connection to this situation: I am a screenwriter/storyboard artist and in 2010 I lived in LA. I sent SUPERNATURAL show-runner Eric Kripke a Dean&Sam storyboard sequence I wrote & rendered. Mr. Kripke called me and we talked for 3 hours. He loved my work (and offered me work on his next series that failed) but explained he was retiring after the 5th season. When I asked about his 5-year plan, he explained that the crew had become his friends over the 7 years it took to get the 5 seasons in the can. CW wanted a flagship show, so they made him and offer he couldn't refuse- EVERYONE made out like bandits, and all Kripke had to do was make sure the show didn't go off the rails. (It did- but it took a decade.) Understand that a Grip that made $60K/year (not much in LA) made $120K/year EXTRA in profit participation & residuals- that is how lucrative the deal was for everyone. Because Kripke did not want to leave them all unemployed, so they got rich when he was done with it, because they all took over and did a decent job as stewards. My point is also: if GAME OF THRONES show-runners, the idiots D&D had done the same thing, it would still be airing new episodes today, everyone would be unbelievably rich, and D&D would not be the laughingstock of Hollywood, and their STAR WARS trilogy of movies would have been made.

Been watching supernatural every week since season 6. I noticed it was slowly losing quality. But only after the last episode, when I decided to rewatch the entire show, I noticed when it went truly downhill. Seasons 1 - 5: That's the golden age. SHould've ended here. Seasons 6 - 11: It's definitely worse them the first 5, but only after rewatching it after season 15, I was able to notice how GOOD it was compared to the last seasons (except the ending to season 11). I'm serious, rewatch season 11 and then go to season 12. You will immediately notice how different the script and pacing are. It went from ok to dumb. Season 12 - 15: Season 12 introduces Andrew Dabb as showrunner, and this guy SUCKS. Also, Eugenie Ross-Leming & Brad Buckner, who always wrote some bad episodes, became executive producers in season 12. I came to appreciate seasons 8 - 11 after rewatching everything and being able to immediately compare the seasons. It's just sad what they did

a feature length film Director ( not to toot the ol’ horn, but) Here’s what I would do to fix all this… Take things back to the basics and work with the strengths of the show. I would make a feature length film that took place after the events of Season 5 as an epilogue. Seasons 1-5 have a specific time that defined the show. It was scary, it was dark , it was heartwarming and it had STEAKS. There would be no “ End of the world or grand scale scenario”… You can’t outdo the final steaks of season 5, so you tell a personal story. The movie would address a 20 year time gap of Dean living his life with his new family and legitimately being happy, but is repressing his inner darkness regarding Sam’s fate in Hell, meanwhile Sam being trapped in the spirit realm on earth with other nasty ghosts. He was pulled from Hell due to his heroic sacrifice. Both Sam and Dean can’t move on u til they accept their Fates.

Dean was always supposed to come back from hell that was the first seal and kicked off the plot for both s4 and s5 it is a giant plot point that was planned in advance. But that's the only one that doesn't fit into the no consequences argument 😁

I'm surprised that so few reviewers ever talk about what happened to the Sam and Dean's character towards the end of the show, which is what made the last few seasons a chore for me to watch. Contrivances and nonsense can be fine if the rest is entertaining, but with these characters? Sam leading an army of hunters as some sort of background event? Dean and his strange vendetta against a newborn child? Hell, if his whole fallout with Castiel was to make any sense, it should have been about him pulling a gun and intending to murder Jack, but both Cas and Sam seem to turn a blind eye to all of that for some reason? Cas flipflopping between acting like some sort of father figure to Jack and complaining when he has to "babysit". And don't get me started on the brothers manipulating people to get what they want and murdering vamps and werewolves indiscriminately these days. Nonsense is par for the course in Supernatural, but not liking the characters I used to love is what tips the scales for me.

I watched this television show when it first premiered on television in 2005, I was so invested and in love with this show until the angels/demons stuff was introduced. The show lost everything it used to have, it was actually scary, funny, heaps of drama and risk for the characters. I stopped watching after season 6 and for me the show ended at season 5. Eric Kripke never intended it to go any further and it’s sad to see how shocking of a show it became. Not any different to any other show that outstayed its welcome, the walking dead, orange is the new black, game of thrones the list goes on. Breaking bad was the perfect show due to the creators and everyone involved accepting that the show was ready to finish and it’s critically acclaimed for what we as viewers have been left with. RIP, supernatural you were my favourite.

Finally got through to Season 10 and every season since 5 has jut felt like a chore to get through. I think the show just never settled on what it should be - personally I find the angel stuff so so boring and groan every time they come on the screen. The writers have no idea what to do with Castiel who just appears and disappears and changes personality on a whim. The show for me was much better when they actually hunted monsters and not with the angel stuff.

I stopped watching after the Hitler episode on S12 and Mary's return. I remember that I struggled through everything after S5 (except S7 bc that was a fun season), but bringing her back was like a punch in the face and showed that everything that had happened up to this point was for naught. Her death was the whole reason the show was even happening. And now she was back and... I dunno, I can't. Still can't wrap my head around why they thought this was a good idea. I mean, even in the earlier seasons I wasn't too happy about her concept of being a hunter, too, bc I thought that was unnecessary and should've been John's thing. You know, a normal dude, hellbent on taking down the demon who killed his beloved wife by battening onto the hunter life, chasing the supernatural. But I disagree with the "lack of consequences" in the main seasons (1-5). The difference is that all of the events were building up on each other and actually had a purpose. Resurrecting Sam and Dean in S2 and S4 drove the plot forward and them much deeper into the shit, and it needs to be done this way since the ending was clear for a long time, according to Kripke. But to return to the later seasons... I think what really drove me out was the lack of consistency with established lore, storylines and characters. Many things felt out of character and that nobody on the show cared anymore about what was already established in the past. The stakes were also so baffling to me. Like, what could be worse than the fucking Apocalypse?? OH YEAH - gods sister -_- I also do believe that Castiel overstayed his welcome. People can fight me on this. But he was morphed from a badass angel to a carricature, just as Luci. There were a few things I found myself enjoying, just like you did - the Mark Of Cain, the Leviathans, Angel Fall and so on, but... I just pretend that the majority of it doesn't belong to the actual series. I only watched single episodes, like the ones from Gabriel when he returned (and regretted it bc the whole vibe of the show felt off), but the fanservice was unbearable. I am so certain they only made Chuck god bc of the fan theories. And it was a horrible decision. Okay, 'nuff with the ranting now... ugh. SPN is still my favorite show. I am on a big re-watch now and it's amazing how well the older stuff still holds up in terms of quality. **sighs**

They only let it go on so long cos they wanted to break the guiness world record for the longest live action fantasy sci-fi show that's ever existed and they did and reached it after season 11, after that though it just became unnecessary to keep on, and people fancy the actors so much that even now after it's finished the cons are still book solid cos they're totally enamoured by them. I have a big crush on Jensen also Dean Girl lol and indeed that kept me so under the shows spell until the very end, except when my heart got broken by what they did to Dean and i was so angry at them all for months, then after misha messing about and going too far with destiel making it sound like he came out as bisexual only to blame us saying we took it the wrong way what he said (no we didn't lol) i haven't been so hopped up on them anymore. Now i've left twitter the spell has wayned and i can totally see how from season 12 onwards it was just a total fan service, i love season 10 with Deanmon though or Cain was possessing him but they couldn't continue that so we'll never know... so i think they should've started at season 11 leading up to an ending and then the end at season 13 to give time to create a smooth path towards it, that would've been the best time to end supernatural instead of keeping it going for another 2 years. I wasn't enjoying it really after season 10 a total struggle from there on out. Now i'm watching it without all the hype and infatuation lol there's a number of episodes i actually don't want to rewatch again when it had nothing that interesting about them that could contribute to the main plot. They definitely took a bit of a page out of how the x-files was written lol cos this is exactly what happened when i finally watched all the x-files episodes last year and man... that was hard to get through and then... completely fell through after season 5, so there's a crap tonne of episodes i'm gonna have to skip the next time i rewatch, and even seasons 1 - 4 it was like that with the x-files and i got stuck trying to get past season 3 cos i was on and off with it so much. I'm having to do the exact same thing with supernatural that the next time i rewatch i'll have to skip a bunch of episodes to be able to stay on the main plot and get through it faster so it's not such a slog to get through and more enjoyable, season 4 bored both me and my mum cos we're watching it downstairs (she's only seen a few episodes that was on tv) and there's like 12 or 13 episodes in season 4 that is so unnecessary to watch. I guess it was a little bit of a fan service back then too, they had to create something cos the standard was 20 - 24 episodes back then but... i wish it was always like letting them create anywhere from 13 - 24 episodes in a season so that didn't happen. So that's my tip on how to rewatch them all, look on the wiki of the episode descriptions and decide which ones you'll totally never watch again to be able to stay on the actual plot rather than wasting time on episodes nothing to do with the main plot, although Monster Movie, Yellow Fever, any episodes with Crowley and Charlie, and Scoobynatural i can never say no to.

My other problem is the contradiction between the four appearances of God. I simply cannot see Chuck in Seasons 4, 5, 10 and 11 doing anything like he did in 14 and 15. It's like the real God disappeared with Amara at the end of season 11 and a false one showed up in his place. Though heaven before Jack fixed it was total crap and that was Chuck's design but still....it might have been a better story if the Chuck of seasons 14 and 15 HAD been an imposter....somehow I think they had too many different writers on this series and thus no real continuity

Later Supernatural seasons were the first example of "writers complying to annoying fandoms full of fanfic losers". The whole production team decided to milk the show according to dumb fans' fantasies. Supernatural got cheesy and politically correct...it just lost its rough/gothic allure. Even the cinematography/costume design went downhill. I loved how literally DARK the first seasons looked.

Honestly they should've never introduced archangels and God and entities of such sort unless they had a Marvel budget or something like that. Such entities are supposed to be light-speed, have the power to lift planets with their hands, be durable to everything and so on, unless they had Marvel budget to create those super-powers into scenes it shouldn't have been introduced in Supernatural. The idea of an Archangel being as fast as human is a joke, they should've had like 6-7 seasons max and the bosses of each season or of the final ones should've been some creators of evil like Azazel was. For example if they didn't introduce Misha and all this angel and demon bullshit the finale of the show at season 5 could've been some final boss that creates all the monsters that were on earth at that point and defeating him would've meant no more ghosts, no more wendigoos, werewolf's and so on, the ending could've been the same (Dean dying like a warrior and Sam living a happy life) but it would've been more realistic, but no, instead they made an Archangel have the speed of a human, what a joke.

You pointed this out and I think it's really important, the writers were making this up as the season and then seasons progressed after season five finale. The problem with inventing scenarios or situations for the characters to encounter is that unless the writer has a clear plan set forth, they will end up contradicting themselves; which is fine when you're the writer because once you're finished with a certain part of the world that you're creating, you want to move onto creating the next part, not re immerse yourself in the part that's already created and done. The problem for writers is that any fan of their work wants to re immerse themselves in those parts and those fans find the contradictions. Which is why I said the writer/writers need to have a clear plan set forth, not just for the show, but also each character, even minor ones. I don't know why the writers or whoever controlling the show didn't have a plan or at the very least an idea for the next five seasons after season five, but I'm willing to bet if they would've just sat down and put it on paper some sort of guidelines to follow I think the show would have been more consistent. Far better than them just winging it.

Well... no matter what show you have to make up as you go along lol it's only possible to write the scripts way ahead of time for maybe the first 2 seasons before anything ever comes of the show or anyone knows about it. But they have to immediately start writing while they're directing and creating the current season before the new season is even made because it's not enough time to just do it over couple months in between, it's a constant writing process as soon as they've wrote one season they have to go on to start writing the next to be able to keep seasons coming out. So they have to make it up as they go along right from where they left off, they did have outlines you'd be crazy not to, but even then you have to make the story up as you go along cos it's the only way to do it and get something created ahead of time to be able to have something for the next season.

All seasons after 5 are bad. The characters other than dean become a back seat. Sam became a complete bitch and keep getting caught and being a Dansel in distress character. They seem to forget about Sam going to hell and being Lucifer, yet Dean gets the mark of Kane and it’s a bigger deal. I honestly think Sam should have been the one with the mark of Kane instead of Dean. Sam was the demon side of the Winchester family and Dean was the angle side of the family. Let’s just say I’ve bought every season within the first month of its release. I have yet to buy 15 and really have no desire to buy it. I only have watched seasons 6-14 once where I can watch seasons 1-5 over 15 times. This show is a prime example of fans wanting more is always not a good thing. They should have ended it after season 5 or at least take 4 years to write a more compelling story rather than make shit up on the go.

23:50 the reincarnation of Death is part of the Natural Order aka the Rules, the Balance, the Scales, etc. this order is also what requires the existence of both God and the Darkness to keep balance so that reality won't be erased. i don't really think this is that big of a contrivance given Death's quote that "at the end, i'll reap him too" back in season 5. this Death reincarnation rule seemed to be unknown to everyone at least angelic tier and below (not unlike many other non-trivial rules of the Natural Order), Billie only finding out after receiving Death's tools, realms, knowledge, powers, etc. i will say i really don't like the "God somehow bound himself to creation and its rules when he created the multiverse" cop-out for why God is vulnerable.

Eric Karpe’s Supernatural Season 1-5 was basically the whole basis of what started the Winchester’s lives. It wrapped up everything neatly in one single package No trash wrappers lying around to leave us with questions that create more questions, angels being angels as they should and demons being demons. Nothing is a broken record Season 6-7. My issue with these season were it had interesting concepts to touch down. Like one monsters going to war with Hell but never did much or exploit the alphas. Eve was an interesting entity but they just didn’t give her screen time or allow her to develop as they just killed her off when she meets the Winchesters at last The Godstiel was a nice touch but ended it at the beginning of the episode for season 7. Should have lasted longer and the Leviathans were good but turned them into a corporate company that wants to enslave humanity and turn them into cows. Season 8-11. The Word of God was something and I don’t see much issues. What could have been a prelude to introduce in season 9 is the introduction of Nephilims and Cambions as the could have been something to appear in season 9 or 10 Season 10, not much difference I can see except Demon Dean should have lasted longer like Godstiel. Season 11. My biggest issue with this season was the Dean and Amara romance. If that’s what you want to call it. I don’t see what was the point of it. I think what would have been interesting if Amara turned Dean back into a Knight of Hell and try to have him kill Sam. It would be like the ending of season 5 only the roles switched where Dean is beating on Sam and then with some remembrance, Dean turns back to normal and then the rest with God vs Amara ends exactly how it did as Dean manages to convince Amara to be good and give up her revenge and they never love each other. Also to avoid what happen in season 15. The worst part that I hated as Amara is my favorite. 15x17 is not an episode I will ever look back at. Season 12, I just enjoyed the Princes and Mary, no disrespect but why was she brought back? Amara brought her back so Mary can help rid Dean of his anger but that failed epically. After a while I was still like why is she here? The BMOL by the way, Mile was my favorite and I just wish to see the rest of the BMOL burn. Lucifer lost his season 5 intimidation and became someone that can be handled he try easily. Season 13, Jack was good though maybe this is me being hardcore but would have been better off if he was serious and not too childish considering the darkness of the world he’s encountered. Would have matured him even though he’s chronologically young. AU Michael was good but like his main counterpart, lack of screen time. Season 14, too many fillers. The whole basis of this season was about Michael but he hardly made any appearances! And then in a filler they kill him off. It was so random and out of nowhere! And then snowballing Lucifer’s return only that became flouted. What was the point of having these two characters if the season wasn’t going to be about them. The Michael vs Lucifer could have been perfect here. Also the situation with Heaven should have been touched down on. Totally just there and nothing done. Season 15. I’m sorry but this season was absolute garbage! God being the villain? Really? When that first happened I was like seriously? God is evil? My first thought was perhaps an evil twin that was born from Chuck or Chuck became corrupted but as it turns out this is how he’s naturally been and everything Sam and Dean have been through meant nothing as Chuck wrote it all. So stupid. Billie would have been a better villain as her plan is to put back order using force. She uses some of Sam and Dean’s past villains as her pawns Also what killed Supernatural a lot for me after season 5 is killing off every character and mistreat them like Adam or Kevin. All the underrated characters got mistreated badly. One of the reasons I hate the writer’s choices like why? To create more angst. We get it already. Stop killing everyone off! It’s annoying and not even original anymore. It’s like oh cool another new character but after watching the show for so long it will make you say oh boy, another person that’s gonna die soon. The ending, I get COVID changed things and maybe the season 15 should have been postponed until things got better. I wish to have seen every character return. Like Jesse or original Death. We didn’t get that. Michael still didn’t get screen time and for reduce to a daddy’s boy and Lucifer at that point was a broken record that got duct tape for the few minutes he appeared and killed off. Horrible! Also they left loose ends like Ruby, did she return? And then there’s the Shadow saying Jack made it loud in the Empty. What the hell?! I’m sorry but I think things could have gone better and never touched on some concepts. Season 15 Sam and Dean moments were perfect but the rest is garbage. Hated it and left me depressed that luckily we have fanfics that I found an author who treated underrated characters better and gave me a proper closure. Angels and reapers were made into jobbers and don’t even act like angels. Cowards and office workers is more like it. Writers flouted everything and started doing things that made no sense like Amara being the older sister but later is Chuck and her are twins. Just stick with one thing. Stop changing what’s been introduced long ago. It’s confusing as hell!

i started watching this show in middle school, watching it on tv every week since season 9, but stopped paying attention in season 11, and hard stopped at the end of season 12. haven’t watched a single episode of 13-15 and only know what spnblogs i follow on tumblr talk about. the kripke era (s1-5) has their own issues, little, subtextual things mostly, but character, plot and lore wise are very strong. i didn’t love the (what felt like) retcon of sam being brought back in season 6 so quick after he made his amazing self-sacrifice, and there were a lot of things i didn’t like about how they wrote “souls” in season 6; i felt like they could’ve pulled more from other cultures and mythologies for better inspiration, instead of it basically just being like “oh they don’t have a conscious and don’t need to eat or sleep anymore.” i liked the leviathans at times in season 7, the whole purgatory and monster stuff, all the dumb dick jokes. season 8 had it’s characters issues too, mostly with sam and amelia, but they added lots of cool lore with the tablets and the trials, then the angels falling at the end was an insane and heartbreaking consequence. season 9 was.. mostly good, kinda, didn’t love the brother trust stuff that they constantly go back and forth on, but i loved Abbaddon in both seasons, though i always felt like she could’ve been more.. ruthless? ya know? i loved the mark of cain stuff, and the *idea* of demon dean more than the execution of it, but it wasn’t too bad. but when they got rid of the mark, killed DEATH of all fucking characters??? and had amara join the show, that’s really when i started seriously losing interest. never liked the inclusion of more god, and especially not that he had a secret evil sister, like what the hell man. and then the whole bringing back mary stuff, bleh - BRITISH men of letters?? extreme bleh. barely paid attention through season 12 with the whole lucifer wanting to make an archangel nephilim, and then when there was a mutiverse introduction and full grown jack showed up?? full stop, no thank you. i’ll always love fully diving into the meta and the subtext and the lore for the earlier seasons of supernatural (the fact that the first 3 were shot on film i’ll esp love), but the way they kept raising the stakes past the apocalypse and made every enemy that used to be larger-than-life to them (demons, then angels) into such fodder really disappointed me.

As far as I'm concerned, the series ends with Season 10, episode 3. The cliffhanger from season 9 is resolved, all ongoing plot threads are merely 'concerns' rather than crises (so we can easily imagine that they can be resolved now that the characters have time to breathe and think), and the afterlives have reached a new reasonably stable status quo for the first time since the season 5 apocalypse.
