The cow tipping makes them NO better then the typical teenagers in movies who follow the creepy sounds.

Farmer here, man you have no idea how nice it is to hear this stuff once in a while. It's a ruthless, thankless job so I really appreciate the thanks. And as far as the movie goes, no, we generally don't have any obligation to sell to anyone in particular, except maybe if you're part of a cooperative but even then as far as I know you can still sell elsewhere, it's just that they guarantee a sale if you go to them. Anyway, love your videos, and hi from France!

Yeah my Pa sold to local butchers for years until Walmart ran em out of business. We tried to get good prices from them but they never wanted to match near what we got from the locals. Now that he’s passed, I’ve had to sell off what remained of the Hefers and pigs to anyone who’d take them for more than I could get butchering them.

Two things I wanna address. Firstly, cow tipping isn't really a thing. Anyone who says that they've gone cow tipping is more than likely lying because there is a myth that cows sleep standing up when in actuality they lay down to sleep the same as any other animal. And secondly, thanks for showing us farmers some love Roanoke. I grew up a cattle farmer and it's nice to finally get a shout-out for what we did.

I knew it! Cow tipping is just a bunch of bullshit. Even if the cow slept like that you’d nevvvver “tip” that beast over with human power alone.

My uncle has a cow name Tessa and sometimes she'd accidentally fall asleep while standing (but not for a long time) and would inadvertently tip herself. Also, the only time we had to "tip" her over is when we had to get her onto her back due to a twisted stomach.

Also love the fact that you completely didn't mention the fact that cows, are in fact, really, *really* fucking heavy, and can be ornery to boot. Bulls aren't the only ones with anger issues, the only reason you don't hear about people being trampled to death by cows is cause it's embarrassing (realistically though, they're generally chill animals and all that weight keeps them from doing much outside of a light trot. In fact, cows falling over on their own accidentally usually requires help from others and a tractor to get 'em up again.)

On one hand, the idea of parasites big enough to have backbones scares me. On the other hand, the parasites in this movie look like giant, very angry blankets, and they make me grin whenever I see them in the video. Also you do make a good point about genetic modification having some unforeseen effects on other species, guess this is why extensive tests need to be done first.

Funny story about biohazard stuff in the mail. Back when bovine spongiform encephalopathy was new one of my professors was working on creating a lab test for the prions to identify cows with BSE. Long story short they started a PR campaign to spread awareness to make farmers start testing cows for BSE, they made plushy cows with an anti BSE picture on it. And shipped it to an airport where it said BSE cows as the label. The entire airport got shutdown 😂. They brought in a hazmat team and opened the case to find plushies.

Ok.. Since you mentioned it.. I almost died from diverticulitis. I was very lucky stuff did not end up outside of my intestine in the first place especially with how large of an area that was ripped open.. I had been dealing with the pain for over a week when I finally went in.. I was barely able to move but I did move around.. At first I was taken to the doctors office.. And the lady at the reception desk immediately yelled at my brother ( who was my legal guardian ) to take me to the hospital. I did not even make it into the building because she could see me slowly trying to move to the door. ( The receptionist had a good view of the entrance and the entrance had a glass area all around so you could see in-out of the front area. When I got to the hospital, I walked in, and it took some time before I was seen.. A bit before I was seen though my brother's friend who took us there asked for a wheel chair for me because he was worried about how hard it was for me to move. ( Keep in mind. I had been, according to other people that seen me and have told me.. Looked like a walking corpse.. They said I looked like someone who was dead skin wise.. Something that was.. Yea not fun. ) It took some time before I was scanned and given medication to help with the pain.. But yea.. Some of the worst pain I have ever felt. The first surgery caused me to lose several feet of intestine, a small portion of my stomach, a small portion of my liver, and something else that I can not remember right now.. I ended up having a second surgery to take back out the stoma that I had to live with for about a year. During said second surgery they took care of a strangulated hernia that might or might not have been there beforehand. ( Something that also had some rot to it but it was not bad enough for another stoma requirement thankfully. ) I have since had several hernias as the parasite that did the damage to my body has weakened a LOT of things.. My intestine for example is as of a 80 year old's intestine.. and this was back in 2011.. So yea.. Parasites can be nasty especially if they go unchecked.. The parasites I had was finally dead/gone by said point but it did a lot of damage to my system... ( They never found out or at least never told me what kind of parasite I had. )

Anglerfish Facts! In most species, a wide mouth extends all around the anterior circumference of the head, and bands of inwardly inclined teeth line both jaws. The teeth can be depressed so as to offer no impediment to an object gliding towards the stomach, but prevent its escape from the mouth.[25] The anglerfish is able to distend both its jaw and its stomach, since its bones are thin and flexible, to enormous size, allowing it to swallow prey up to twice as large as its entire body.

A quick explanation to why farmers would be using feed that's bad for their cows. This system they have of "we give you feed, you sell us back the cows" is actually incredibly common in farming both in flora and fauna farming. It sounds like a good deal but the problem is exclusivity. During an amount of time in a contract you MUST get feed from them and you MUST sell to them. This is actually a bigger problem in plant farming because you can be in violation of a contract you don't even know about because your neighbor has a contract and because a few seeds ended up on your property (which happens) your whole farm is at risk because you just broke trademark law and now you have a choice. Sign the contract yourself or give up the farm to someone who will

Oh man, it's quite a blast from the past watching you cover this movie. I was watching your episode on the thaw a while back and the parasite theme of it reminds me of an obscure b grade horror movie i saw a long time ago that was also about parasites. I forgot the name of the movie and i could only vaguely recall some of the details of the movie but i remember it had giant parasites that ruptured out of animals. Flash forward to today and as i was watching the video i can't help but feel the plot evoking some sense of familiarity until i realized this movie is _that_ movie i saw way back in the past. I never thought some day you were going to literally make a video about this old memory of mine but i'm pleasantly suprised. Thanks for the video and the nostalgia my man, your content has been one of the few sources of joy i have on this site 👍

Roanoke’s limitless hatred for angler fish is hilarious to me because they’re one of my favorite deep sea animals. It’s the dolphins that freak me out. Would much rather hang out with an angler fish than a pod of bored orcas.

There's a webcomic called "freefall" set on a colony world in the process of being terraformed (with a lot of realistic science applied to the setting) one of the main characters is a vet, but as there are very few animals on the planet his job involves sending the planet with microbes and parasites for the very reason stated in the beginning of the video. At one point her quips he's single because it's hard to date when you tell people you have tapeworms (referring to his lab not his body)

I love this channel so much! I was wondering though if there was a specific place that we can ask for movies to be covered. I've been trying to get more people to watch a movie called Indigenous and their "chupacabra". The creature effects are so good for a lower budget movie.

I doubt you’ll see this but man… you’re the best. You brought back my wanting to go into the med field and to med school. Not to mention, without these videos I doubt I’d still have the wanting to learn more and more. You make learning fun. Also, I partially agree on detox stuff. Physically it doesn’t do much but make you slightly dehydrated which help make you more hydrated making you actually detox but it does help in a psychiatric sense… stuff is weird and people are dumb lol

If it was just the science dissection, I probably wouldn't stick around, but it's the humor and frank way of putting things in combination with the science that makes me stick around. I'm not gonna lie, usually the science is beyond me and I have hard time grasping what it actually means, but you manage to explain it in terms that make sense to me, even if I don't actually know what it means. The channel fascinated and entertains me through your delivery as much as the actual content, so for whatever it's worth, I'm here for it.

Hey, strange question and you’ll likely not respond but is the reason you focus on plagues and parasites because you’re specialized in that field? Like if I made a request that you do a series of deep dives into the lore and biology of monsters from the monster hunter series would it be something you’d consider doing? It’s not about plagues or parasites though (although there’s instances of illnesses that show up from time to time in the games for monsters), monsters are entirely products of their environment and develop traits specific to their functions. What I’m asking is, would you be interested in making videos that explore a monster and discuss its traits and habits (and what environmental influences could have been at play in how they evolved into what they are). There’s ALOT of monsters (equals alot of videos lol) and all have incredibly unique and diverse designs and traits.

Vet here, not really odd to not be able to identify worms on sight, you got to do a Baermann's test for that. The more common way we ID fecal parasites is to look at the ova (eggs), the ova are fairly unique to each species.

This is one of those movies from my childhood where I’d sit down and watch it on ScyFy one Saturday night with my dad. Only ever saw it once, during the time ScyFy had a new movie every Saturday night, but it’s one of those weird core memories we all have as kids where, for some reason, you vaguely remember something, but not enough to explain it well enough to find it again. It wasn’t even special to me, just one of those things you just remember for some reason. I never thought I’d learn the name of this random movie whose scenes occasionally invade my thoughts. It’s a little surreal to be honest. Good video as always, and thank you for helping cross out one of those things that kept me frustrated as I tried to remember the name.

Fun Fact! We have cows that have extra muscles, they have the Double-Muscle gene, and the breed is called Belgium Blues. Problem is: they can't give birth naturally, and the meat tastes bad and is expensive because you have to factor the cost of a c-section birth into the final meat-cost.

Astrology person here. Regarding 24:08, a planetary retrograde is when a planet seems to be moving backwards in the sky from our perspective here on Earth. What the planet rules be thrown out of balance. The planet Mercury rules communication, travel, automobiles, shipping, and mail. Mercury also tends to go retrograde three or four times a year.
