@@Lemonade1947 While this is a common sentiment in the community, I don't really agree with it. The editing is competent, good even, but it's not really what drives these videos. There's been a ton of "reality" TV that was edited by some seriously skilled people (and a lot that wasn't, but whatever)-but it still didn't work for me. What drives these videos isn't the editing, or the music (often I'd just wish they didn't have any) or the drone shots (90% of the time, pure distraction from actual content). It is the genuine personalities, and real and non-dramatized presentation of the content. There's no script and if whatever they created wasn't as cool as they thought; they don't try to dress it up as something amazing. It's just great seeing them doing stuff and having fun, or trying their best. The editing being competent helps to keep those people who are less interested in the actual content entertained, but it's not exactly the main reason why this channel works. The production quality is also, of course, very big element. But these days, getting good looking footage isn't behind a 50k dollar bill for a camera and lens, so it's less rare than it was 20+ years ago.

The barn board is a nice touch! I did something similar for a headboard for my bed, but I lightly painted a few of the boards blue, and then sanded them slightly to get the grain to come through. It was a proof of concept for the interior of the skoolie project I'm working on.

You need a ground wire in every conduit per the NEC. Yes, the conduit is a path to ground, but it can become broken, a grounding electrode conductor is still required. It'll work just fine without it, but it's a little less safe and won't pass an inspection. It has to be bonded to every box that has a device or splice in a current-carrying conductor (phase or neutral), too. Decent looking conduit work, though. I think I saw some supports too far from a box or two and maybe a floating box, but it was neatly-enough done for a non-electrician. Awesome shop!
@juliangarrett6373
@juliangarrett6373 10 ай бұрын
As a 12 year electrician, I totally agree. Need ground wire bonded to each box as you can’t trust the conduit to be a good ground path over time and with bumps and knocks in a shop setting. Also , how many conductors are in that conduit??? Surely too many for 1/2” emt. Especially when including a 50 amp welding circuit

@@juliangarrett6373 16 years for me, and another 5 or so unofficially in trade school, etc. It looks like 3/4", but yeah, I'm sure there will be too many current carriers in it for full ampacity, not to mention conduit fill. I wish people would leave electrical work to the electricians.

Retention is different from resistance. The term is "R-Value", not TR-Value. The reason that thermal isn't part of the term is because it refers to heat. Insulation also resists cold, therefore, the resistance(R-Value) represents both the resistance of the transfer of thermal and cold air both from inside and outside. It doesn't take a genius to figure this out.

You are going to have trouble with that slab you used as a windowsill. Even if you do your best to seal it with paint or whatever finish, it is still going to absorb moister and expand, and with as tight as it is, it is going to warp and stand up. I'd pull it out while you still can, and take 4mm off its length, and cover the gaps with a hardwood molding of your choice. That will let the sill expand and contract, and hopefully stay flat.

Back in the 1980's I had a friend up by Priest Lake that used an old 3 cylinder Yanmar or Kuboda engine to heat the water for his in floor heating. When really cold he'd bring it up to about 3/4 throttle, otherwise just a little over idle to maintain floor heat. He just plumbed it to the floor piping instead of a radiator, and mounted it outside in a box. Worked really quick and was really cheap to operate.

The R in R valve stands for Resistance Value. To the best of my understanding, this R represents a divider of the temperature flux between two sides of a barrier. So using Btu/h per square foot, if your walls are R-value 7, the inside temp is 70°, the outside temp is 0°, then 10 Btu’s of heat will escape through each sq ft of wall area per hour.

Ethan, please keep that gift. I don't deserve it. I don't subscribe to any KZfaq channel. I live up here in Canada and collect ODSP from the government. The reason I do is because I have a mental condition called Asperger's Syndrome, or Autistic Spectrum Disorder. No, this doesn't mean that I can't learn because I became a genius more than thirteen years ago. Neither does it mean that I'm not able to become a success at a business, which I will start after I start at first business building go-karts. I was wanting to start one since I was a teenager in high school. In the second year of it, I became incredibly interested in automobiles, which branched into other item, such a aircraft, bladed weapons, personal aerial vehicles, a quadricycle, recumbent trikes and a refrigerator that I don't want to describe. The reason for this is that it doesn't have a patent for it as of yet. Why do I type this way? I'm a perfectionist and genius, which I typed a moment ago. So please, give that gift to the next person who subscribes to your channel. B'bye Ethan.

I'm an electrician in the Netherlands, the way you install the electric in the US is so different as how we do it. For instance it is not allowed here to install more than one circuit in a conduit. We use plastic conduits and boxes so we use an extra wire for the earth. Ofcourse the voltage and phases are different too, we have either 1 or 3 phases / 230 or 380v. Great job with the new garage😄

I’m Electrician in America,and you have to derate for multiple current carrying conductors ,from the looks of it that many outlets and only using a 3/4 conduit,it would fail if it was being inspected. You would have to upsize the wire because of heat. But on the other hand the conduit between the boxes could be short enough and derating doesn’t matter.
@pjl1919
@pjl1919 10 ай бұрын
Although the NEC allows up to 16 current-carrying THHN conductors in such a conduit, it also requires that for any number of conductors over three, you have to derate the capacity of the conductor. The derating isn’t significant until the number of conductors exceeds nine. For 10 to 20 conductors, 12-gauge wire is derated down to 15 amps.
@Blurky82
@Blurky82 10 ай бұрын
@@pjl1919 It's interesting to me to see how different electrical installations are around the world. Over here in normal house/garage/office situations we use 3x 2,5mm2 (which is 14-gauge I think) wires (L-brown, N-blue, Earth-Green/yellow) as standard per circuit with a 16 Amp circuit breaker, the black wire from the switch to a lamp can be 1,5mm2 (16 gauge?) . We do sometimes use bigger 20 Amp circuit breakers but they are in general only used for devices like big boilers or something like that, definitely not for lamps or sockets. Usualy you go to 3 phase 16Amp if you need more power (induction cooking, EV charging, hybrid heat pump).

That bathroom door needs to look like a rustic outhouse with the traditional quarter moon cutout.

That Douglas fir would make a great open plan shared desk slash boardroom table. When Seth from Berm Peak (who's in western NC) was building out his shop office he made a big point about having a foldout couch for visitors to crash on and room for them to set up for editing. If you're so far off the beaten track, seems like a nice move to have some workspace for anyone who comes to do a collab.

Looking good! Probably should have gapped the ply about 1/4" from the floor, but over all very nice. I have built a few shops and always recommend ply wood no need to look for studs to mount to.

In the context of construction,[2] the R-value is a measure of how well a two-dimensional barrier, such as a layer of insulation, a window or a complete wall or ceiling, resists the conductive[3] flow of heat. R-value is the temperature difference per unit of heat flux needed to sustain one unit of heat flux between the warmer surface and colder surface of a barrier under steady-state conditions. The measure is therefore equally relevant for lowering energy bills for heating in the winter, for cooling in the summer, and for general comfort

It's cute how 110 is a "regular" outlet. I guess I could weld In my bedroom if I wanted to. =)
