The Importance of Yuta vs Sukuna

The way Yuta & Sukuna’s dynamic in Jujutsu Kaisen is handled is some of the most exciting stuff I’ve ever read. In Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuta & Sukuna are two characters that stand as an antithesis to one another; yet, they converge in their monstrous nature. As a person who would do anything for those that he cares for; what is he to do when a natural disaster like Sukuna threatens their lives? The decision he’s apparently come to is to become one himself. Even if it comes at the cost of his life, happiness, and comfort he will protect them.
I’ve come to really like Yuta’s character as any video I make of him guarantees a banger & his obsession with caring for the people around him, but what makes him go from like to love is how he clashes with Sukuna both directly & indirectly. In this video, I’ll discuss their dynamic, defend Yuta’s decisions, and explore what the story intends to convey about monsters as a whole in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Yo tell me Gege isn't writing this story based off of this quote 'Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

@hollamari5109 I wouldn't say that he's become a complete monster yet, I think jjk differentiates between physical monsters and psychological monsters. Physical, he's become somewhat monstrous, but in terms of mindset, Yuji has not gone that far yet in my opinion

Yuta doin all this just to prove Sukuna’s ideology is right&that’s gonna be why he dies. He’s not a natural calamity like Sukuna he was born a regular human&is now trying to become some type of artificial monster through his mentor. Something like that just excites Sukuna&gives him an even bigger reason to win this fight. Yuta thinks being a monster is the answer but the real answer is keeping your convictions like Yuji does THAT’S the real thing Sukuna fears.

Something like The Joker in The Dark Knight hoping for Batman to kill him but he won't cuz it will match his level, thing that for Batman (and maybe yuji) will be lowering the bar. Yuta will fail. You cannot defeat Sukuna at his own game. No one is more of a monster then Sukuna and throwing away your Humanity will get you killed because just like Gojo he won’t be able to fully do it. It will be Yuji embracing his Humanity disproving Sukuna and completely defeating him. (Cope) Gojo will return like Geto for a brief second to perhaps save Yuta or give him one last lesson on what he learned in death about how he has been wrong.

I disagree. Yuji can’t win this fight on his own humanity. Or at least it’s not fair to say that’s what won the fight. Everyone sacrificed something in this fight to get this far, Yuji winning by virtue of being the last man standing doesn’t feel like it’s a positive for his ideals.

Really great analysis: I do believe that Yuta has done what he has to do and he is also unknowingly following Yuji as a cog in a machine for it is the readers and later whoever is alive to tell the tale who will recognize his sacrifice. I don’t know about yuji but it seems he will win his way ; you can tell that he still relies on his left right goodnight even when he has shrine and other aspects of blood manipulation and the fact that he got the black flash he should be awoken fully but the question is why? Why stick to the old methods ; it must be his mindset as per now. He will have to be pushed to the very edge of his ideas and maybe when he overcomes the fear of being at loss to those ideals is when he will truly be born. But yeah great analysis and I agree that it was a great chapter to bring out the themes and not just take us on a rollercoaster of fights but true ideals

When Yuta demands they assist Gojo Maki says he is their insurance in case Gojo loses. Also when Gojo dies Maki grabs his shoulder I thought to simply to console him over his masters death but also for the monstrous steps he would take to avenge him. Also I don’t think Kenjakus technique requires constantly activation and will kill Yuta since you can’t use CT after domain expansions and Kenjaku didn’t die when he couldn’t use his CT constantly so Yuta shouldn’t either but he will still lose, probably like Kimimaro/Gaara he will die before he lands a killing blow

The saddest unintentionally tragic part is that when Yuta was being stopped from going out to help Gojo back when the GojovSukuna fight was happening. I think Yuji was the only one to tell him to go, not knowing the plan was in place and that was one of the reasons why Yuta was so agitated. Them keeping Yuuji in the dark in fear that Sukuna would heard their plans through soul resonance, unintentionally cover my boy's eyes to the lenghts his senpai was about to go through just to kill a calamity 😭 Whether or not that saved or cursed him, we have yet to see.

I think JJK is in my top fav stories. Just under The Boxer and Gurren Lagann. Morality is such an awesome core for a story. It reminds me of how Luffy doesn't care about anything besides his goal, his friends and their goals. He'd let people continue to be enslaved, but, if his friend needs helps with something, and the byproduct of accomplishing that is the freedom of the slaves then so be it. He doesn't care one way or the other. For him it's all about freedom and I love it.

I think this whole thing reflects what we see so clearly with binding vows, to gain something you need to give something Characters like Sukuna, Gojo, Yuuta and Kenjaku gave up their humanity to gain power, the same way Hakari gave up his left arm to to gain protection for the rest of his body. Even if the first one is not explicit it shows, the way these characters grow stronger is by giving away things, just like sukuna does time and time again, he gives away parts of his abilities so that they can become stringer on other fronts; if hes willing to do it to furnace and the world slash is it hard to imagine that sukuna would do that to himself? Give away his humanity to gain power. And with that in mind it makes yuji and evebn more interesting character, because he doesnt do that. The only binding vow (at least that i can remember) that yuji does is with sukuna in the start of the series, and that was not only imposed by sukuna but life or death. He himself did never make a binding vow, not to gain or repress power, not to get someone to do something for him. And that reflects a very important part of his character: his selflessness. Like all the "monsters" of the series he gives and gives, not his humanity but his time, his strength, his happines and even his life. He gives and gives and gives without wanting anything back, without demanding anything back like everyone else does. The fact sukuna is using and abusing binding vows is my favorite part of this fight. 1- Because I had a lot of conversations with friends about how broken binding vows were and they did not take me that serious, as "there is no way the author would let it just work like that" and now I see how fucking right I was and i love it cause its not only about stright up power but about creativity. and 2 - It feels so Sukuna, he gets everything he want and only gives what he wants. Not only it shows his knowladge of jujutsu but how he decides how and when his power is going to work. But I also think it show the contrast beetween him and yuji. I really think that, even if not explicit, the return of how much yuji gives is not coming as power, but as a happy (as happy as it can be) ending. He gave everything to keep pushing and to keep human, he sacrificed all the power he could have gained by abandoning his humanity. So in the end power is not what yuji deserves to gain, nor what he truly wants, if abandoning the closeness of humanity for the loneliless of power is what the monsters of jjk have done, what will yuji, the most human character left gain after abandoning the selfishness of power? (sorry if the english is too bad, not my first language :P But the video was too good of an analysis for me to not think too much about it and want to share some ideas)
