Nice build on your Dynamites. Thanks for the review and even the sound demo, which normally I find useless but in this case did a nice job of providing a taste of their dynamic range. I purchased the plans a few weeks ago for a planned 2022 build. Given your results, I can't wait to get to it!

I am enjoying them so much I'm about to build another set for my wife. I'm going to add a built-in amp plate with wi-fi/bluetooth. Others have compared them to the Overnight Sensations, but the Dynamites seem to have a better tweeter and crossover network. The bass extension is surprising in such a small speaker.

A follow up to The Dynamites. I have been using them as near field monitors with my computer. After a few weeks of burn in time I've noticed that the woofer has loosen up a good bit and matches the tweeter's level better. I EQed the tweeter down to start with but have now moved back to the flat no-eq setting. The bass is still substantial but I still mated them with my small Voxel Cedar sub. Enjoying listening to multiple styles of music with them. Not too fatiguing, midrange is a little thin but I am still tweaking it with eq.

this is cool design. I also built a small bookshelf speakers. I used Dayton Audio woofers and tweeters. I also made a short demo. Maybe next time, I will try these drivers.

The drivers are good, but Soundblab's crossovers and cabinet design help these things shine. The bass is substantial. The tweeter is a little hot for my taste but he includes alternate resistor values to knock it down some if you like.

Nice work again Donnie. They are probably close to the sound of my overnight sensations which uses the same woofer in about the same size cabinet. I'm just about done with my CSS Criton 1TD-X to replace my Encores. All said and done I have about $1.2K in the Criton's so they better be great!

Thanks, they did seem similar to the O. S.'s. The bass response and SPL's from these little things is crazy. The tweeter is a little hot for my taste but still a good speaker. You have to post something on the 1TD's. I am not brave enough to go big on a project like those yet. Thanks again!

@@DonnieMulligan My question is what are you doing with all the ones you built? Putting speakers in every room, giving as gifts? Selling?

Well Brian, I tried waiting to see how you liked the CSS Criton's but I decided to join you instead. Just purchased their Criton 2TD-X Tower with Superior crossovers. Going in deep too!!!

@@DonnieMulligan Oh my gosh! I cannot believe that. I can tell you a few things. First I am very late in posting my video, sorry. This post is really what I would say when I get to it. Second, without knowing much about you I will say you have purchased something very special. Cheapaudioman is right, you will feel the bass in your chest, i do with a single woofer. It is very remarkable what the can do in the bass region. Tone, texture and clarity all day long. The mids and highs are frickin amazing for this price. But at the end of the day from what all are saying only the buchart's s300/s400 are the only one that comes close from what I know. You'll be happy with elac Unifi 2.0 if you can't diy and you value sound staging and ability to play at higher volumes with a small cabinet and have great bass response. Can be a bit shouty/metalic with the wrong source material. Also more affordable. You'll be happy with the encore XLS if you value the utmost in bass texture and tone without forward mid/highs but a lot of detail there. Really a great diy value. But they don't play well with loud rock or bass heavy material at high volumes. Sound staging is very good but I think the elacs are a bit better. Their one limitation i would say is high volume bass heavy material at volume. I'm amazed every time I play them. Better than the elacs for my taste and style but because of the volume/bass issue, so I am giving to my wife. You'll be happy with the Criton 1TD-X or 2TD-X with superior XO if you want an end game speaker. For 95% of casual listeners no sub needed, audiophiles will want a sub no matter what, right? Chest thumping bass with NO exageration just awesome extention and clarity. From the top end with sparkling highs with no hint of distortion or fatigue and great presence. The mids are crazy good with male and female vocals, just sweet and spot on reproduction. Really great sound staging but a bit less than the elacs. Bass: IDK, from from my experience there is no compact speaker in this size or format that can touch it, period, nuff said. Tektons double impacts probally can but a different speaker for sure. The overall impact and speed and output is really on another level that I have not experienced ever. And this coming from an Infinity Kappa 9 owner with 4ea 12" woofers. Really hard to not praise then enough here. But this is for what I dig. No LS50 for me :) Donnie, I think if the above aligns with you, you will be one happy camper! Only one request. Loved your encore XLS video or build but the plywood cabinet... The criton 2DT-X needs some love. This should be the pinnacle of your endevor. I would encourage you to devote much attention to cabinet construction and especially the finish to make this the showcase speaker that it is, and deserves. It's not that hard but does add extra cost and time for sure but in the end this speaker deserves that. If you need assistance please reach out to me and the community. I'm really happy for you but also jealous for sure! Can't wait to see your next video!

Moisture is especially damaging to oriented strand board. Once I made some large guitar speaker woofers and used oriented strand board. When the 15 inch woofers started working well the buzz from the OSB was so bad I had to remove all of it from the boxes I had partially built with it. It is not a desirable wood for speaker enclosures. It might look cool but. . . .
@DonnieMulligan
@DonnieMulligan 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, also difficult to work with on miter cuts. But I have not noticed any buzzing or other cabinet noise yet. The side walls are braced pretty well. The interior is lined with vinyl and rockwool and I have several coats of lacquer sealing the out side. Seems to be a well designed and balance little speaker even with the unorthodox cabinet.

Nice build! if you're obsessed with details like, umm...me... then swap those ferromagnetically active steel binding posts for non-magnetic solid brass ones with brass nuts :)
@DonnieMulligan
@DonnieMulligan 2 жыл бұрын
These binding post are not ferromagnet. They are Nickel plated brass, nuts too. I usually use gold plated brass but Parts Express is having some supply problems. The difference is negligible.

I know this is an older video,,but i had a question, after you finish the osb can you still feel the roughness of the grain.
@DonnieMulligan
@DonnieMulligan 2 ай бұрын
Yes definitely. I did spray several coats of clear lacquer to help seal them but you can still feel the OSB texture. I did another pair for my brother. Sanded the OSB down to a 120 grit. Got a much smoother finish. I think if you sand them well and use several coats of polyurethane you can get them smoothed out pretty well. Mitered corners were tricky. They are very delicate and flakey until you glue them up. Good Luck!

@@DonnieMulligan thank you for the quick reply. Ever since I worked at home Depot in the lumber department, I've always liked to look of OSB, but never liked working with it because it did splinter and chip so much. Maybe I'll try a project with them in the future.

@@dakken74 With mitered corners you don't have to deal with showing the end grain. The corners look great with this material and nearly disappear. You could also use the underside of OSB, at least on my 4 x 4 sheets, it has a different texture. Smaller wood chip with dark brown bark like pieces mixed in. Gives a slightly different look.

Wondering how you think these compare with X-SLS? I'm considering building X-MTM which I suspect are similar to the SLS.
@DonnieMulligan
@DonnieMulligan 2 жыл бұрын
My early impressions are that it is not a fair comparison. These are more in line with the Overnight Sensations. Surprising bass and SPL's for their size. A little hot on the top end which I EQed down and am using them as computer monitors. As for the X-MTM's. I too am considering those. The build threads I've read about those seem to say that they sound sound similar to the X-SLS's with more bass and SPL's. I built the X-CS which has the same MTM design and I can say it has more bass punch(but not extension. It has a smaller sealed box) than the X-SLS's. For obvious reasons it has more power. Vocals really pop with that MTM design. The deciding factor for you might be room size. For a regular size listening room( mine is about 12 x20 feet) the X-SLS's are fine. In a larger room you might need the X-MTM's power and bass.
