I love My Early Life. I was turned onto it by the podcast The Rest is History; they did a three-part series on his early life. Churchill also wrote multiple individual books about the various events that are covered in the book, like The River War, The Malakand Field Force, and multiple books about the Boer War. He is such a fun, grandiloquent, self-aware writer.

WSC's father was not Sir Randolph, but Lord Randolph. Not a peer. His was a courtesy title. Lord Randolph was a younger son of the duke of Marlborough. (WSC wrote a lengthy biography of his ancestor, John Churchill, the first duke, victor of the battle of Blenheim.)

There is a well regarded movie of Winston Churchill's early life called Young Winston. It was directed by Richard Attenborough and starred Simon Ward. However you feel about Winston Churchill, and there are plenty of reasons to dislike or even hate him, he is a damn good writer

In times when this great man is in danger of cancellation by woke cultists, it is important to defy these people and read his writings. I salute for this - I have a copy of My Early Life I still haven't gotten round to reading!

I’ve only read his History of the English-speaking Peoples and his speeches, and I’ve got his ‘WWII’ on my tbr - but you’ve put me right onto this like a hound to a fox! I shall start it this week, I think…
