I think not sharing is actually doing people a favour. When you go on your own search and find something, even if it’s not an untouched paradise, it is still 10 times more rewarding 🤙🏼

Just blows my mind that so many South Americans will spend buckets of cash to fly 1000’s of miles to over crowded Bali when they have this on their doorstep

I've been here. It isn't as good as this looks and is often much more crowded. Also once there it isn't as cheap as indo AND if you are from South America and you can afford to travel for surfing you are wealthy.

I remember flying to a surf destination in Mexico and got skunked no waves for a week. When we flew home we went over Santa Cruz and it looked so dreamy. Right in my backyard.

@@kyledexheimer6548 for what its worth, I used to visit Indo regularly and now live here in Bali and when its good its good but if your only coming for a few weeks you could easily go home relatively empty handed if the wind or swell doesn’t co-operate. If it does co-operate theres most likely a shit ton of ppl out. Its super crowded here now from ppl all over the globe. Shit ton of beginners too messing the lineups up and causing absolute havoc. Like anywhere I guess, theres no perfect 24/7 365 days a year surf destination.

I think the only time it’s cool to name drop surf spots is when the spots are already well known like Uluwatu or pipeline or somewhere like that. If it’s not a well known break locals would definitely not appreciate people posting it online.
@KalesBroccoli

When does it become well know though? How did those spots become well known in the first place? Just playing devils advocate, would it not be better to just teach eachother proper surf etiquette so we can share spots better? There are 1000’s of waves that no one’s ever surfed still, surely the more spots people know about, the less crowded the typical places get? Just a thought to keep the conversation going, don’t mean to start any drama ❤
@AndrewCooperr
@AndrewCooperr 8 ай бұрын
@@bradybythesea I respect the locals wherever I go and would never blow up their spot on the internet if they weren’t cool with it. Some spots are meant to remain secret and to be found by the ones who search for it. Ulu’s, pipeline, will always be crowded no matter how many spots get discovered. There’s a ton of spots around the world that are not high traffic and have amazing waves. You just have to go the extra mile to get there. I see where you’re coming from tho but I think the most important part of all of this is to respect the locals and not blow up their spots.

Ok that’s all good and well for you and the 0.01% of surfers that earn money by surfing which gives you the freedom to ‘explore’ the world for waves. The rest of us that have daily jobs but love surfing dont have that freedom of time and money to be exploring the world for waves. We can only plan what two weeks a year for a surf trip which we don’t want to waste so everyone goes to the most famous breaks to maximise the chance of getting waves, in my opinion if everyone shared the locations around the world and stupid localism wasn’t a thing that would spread the surf community out more, then there would be more places for people to go to where they know they will definitely get waves, it would free up the most famous breaks which leads to people catching more waves more surf locations more fun in general and more money for the local community where these surf breaks are, like is that no beneficial for everyone? What good is keeping all those surf breaks a ‘secret’? None… the only person benefiting is the person keeping it to them selfs which is somewhat selfish no?
@JonAtack
@JonAtack 8 ай бұрын
That would destroy many quiet, peaceful spots and communities for the people that live there. The resulting overdevelopment and gentrification forces many of them out.

So all surfing before social media was selfish and greedy and only enjoyed by the top 0.01%?
@AndrewCooperr
@AndrewCooperr 8 ай бұрын
Man you have a lot to learn about surf etiquette. There’s locals who have surfed these waves for 40 years probably. I can assure you that they would not appreciate people name dropping all of their spots online. No matter what all of those “famous breaks” you referred too will always be crowded. If you are planning a surf trip and want uncrowded waves, do your research. There’s affordable uncrowded destinations all of the world.
@benfulford3943
@benfulford3943 8 ай бұрын
@@AndrewCooperrinteresting contradiction you made there. If he wants uncrowded waves he has to do his research but if everyone is keeping all that information secret then he can't research that
