Absolutely gorgeous! To be honest, I could sit here and watch that all day, very relaxing. I'm really interested in getting into Bonsai. I know you put a list of the kind of things you want to cut, any chance you could do a video, showing examples of each. Also how you did the pot transfer/cutting the roots... Thanks

Very nice!!!, I know this goes a way back, but yes, the shrub version of the Barberries are great for Shohin and Mame; the Rocket is also a great choice (Just make sure not to buy the Pillar version)

Appreciate the review of sizes - very helpful to me. We got some barbary for landscaping this year and I was pretty impressed by the aged trunks and small leaves. Any updates on this one?

Hi. Did you record the repotting? I need more videos on how to drastically root reduce, such as this case. And what type of hedge plants can handle that.

Couple questions. We have Barberry's in Colorado and they do fine as landscaping. Could you bring this in as an inside bonsai or would it need to remain outside to get a dormant season? When you trim off that much root, how often and how much do you need to water it (assuming a bonsai soil)? Can you recommend any of your videos where you cover how to trim the roots and how to determine how much water is right? Thanks and great job!

Loved your video so much I just went and found a nice barberry myself. Question I’m also in Washington did you just recently cut and shape this tree or did you do this in early spring/winter?
@BenBSeattle
@BenBSeattle 3 жыл бұрын
I trimmed it in early june. I was going to wait until next spring to repot but the tree had so many fine roots that I repotted in late June and it did fine

Ben B. Seattle you think it’s still safe to give one a trim? I noticed they have tons of very fine roots as well

@@mikenickerson3433 yes you can prune for maybe a week or 2. Just want to give any new growth time to lignify before the frost in a couple of months

New subscriber here. A question- What are barbells ( barbell branches)?

Branches that go right across the trunk with no stagger. Like if you stick your arms straight out to the side

What time of the year did you do the root pruning. Was it in this heat. I know barberry likes the heat. I have a couple of spirea that work this way too. Looking at bringing home a Potentilla with yellow flowers too. All are instant bonsai. Oh and cotoneaster.
