Brilliant! Absolute Oz legends (love the Aussie flag painted on the drum kit, never noticed that before, cute). Fun Facts: This was the first Aussie rock song to be a hit internationally. The Easybeats formed in 1964 in Sydney Australia - all migrants (they're originally from Scotland, England & the Netherlands). Singer Stevie Wright went on to have some classic solo hits in the 70s including the legendary "Evie parts 1, 2 & 3" (the biggest selling Oz song of 1974, and at 11 minutes, was at the time the longest song to hit number 1 anywhere in the world). Guitarists Malcom Young and Harry Vanda became the powerhouse songwriting and producing duo Vanda & Young (for acts like John Paul Young, Stevie Wright, Cheetah, William Shakespeare, Ted Mulry, The Angels, Rose Tattoo and AC/DC, and so are responsible for a huge chunk of Oz-music history, specially in the 70s), they also had hits themselves performing as "Flash & the Pan". George Young was the older brother of AC/DC's Malcolm & Angus Young. The "George" and "Harry" mentioned in the lyrics of Dire Straits' Sultans of Swing is said to be a nod to The Easybeats George & Harry.

Stevie Wright back in happier days. ;-) One of the band members was George Young, who co-wrote this song with another member, Harry Vanda. George and Harry later produced the early works of George's younger brothers Malcolm and Angus, who played in a band called AC/DC.

1966 was a vintage year for rock--post-Beatlemania but pre-Summer of Love. These guys were the best practitioners of the genre.

Hmm, never heard this song before. I wonder if this is where the Cure got the idea for their song "Friday I'm In Love".

Welcome to the wonderful world of the EasyBeats. There's quite a bit of video on KZfaq of the boys performing live. You should also check out their songs "I'll Make You Happy", "Too Much" (On the Easy Fever EP) "Sorry", and "Very Special Man" (with George as lead singer). The guitarists George Young (far left) and Harry Vanda (tall and blond) went on to become a huge influence in Aussie rock music in the following decades, writing songs and mentoring bands - including AC/DC with two of George's brothers in it, and had their own set of records as "Flash and the Pan".

Remember guy's no auto tune and almost everything done live. No re-takes back then......Unfortunately Stevie Wright died at 60 due to heroin and alcohol addictions. Also notice he puts his hand on his ear every so often.....no hi tec ear plugs, so to block out the musos, that was about the best anyone could do. He was a really nice guy, it's so sad how he went downhill.

I don't think that his heroin addiction was the reason why his life long health problems. I believe that he could have overcome them by himself,. Yes he made a mistake when he tried Heroin but he ended paying for them the rest of his life.😢😢😢😢. His biggest mistake was when he tried to get help by checking himself into the Chelmsford private hospital. 😢😢😢😢 There he was given 14 electric shock treatment's with out his permission. 😢😢 And they gave him a cocktail of drugs ( to treat him for his drug addiction' ). 😢😢😢😢 that put him in a deep sleep induced coma for two weeks or more. No one knows how long.😢😢😢 That made it impossible for his brain 🧠 to get the oxygen that he needed to stay healthy and active . It caused him to suffer from brain 🧠 damage for the rest of his life. 😢😢😢 He tried to get away from them by jumping out of a window and broke his foot 😢. He got staff infection and that was pretty much the reason why he suffered from it. The other 2 rehabilitations didn't help him either 😢😢😢 Just made him even worse.😢😢😢 He was a diabetic and didn't know it.😢😢😢 He was trying to self medicating to feel better 😢😢😢. And you can see what happened to him after that 😢😢😢😢. I feel very sad that he had to go through all of it by himself. 😢😢😢 His wife took his child and Left him to suffer from it by himself 😢😢😢😢😢 She claimed to have been in love with him 😢😢😢 But I think that she was in love with the fame and the attention she was getting 😢😢😢😢😢

Stevie Wright was a fantastic performer. The Easybeats were pretty big in the UK but came home because they were home sick and started the Australian pub rock sceen. The 2 songwriters were actually named in Dire Straits song Sultanas of Swing. You couldn't see George Young, but he is Guitar George, and the blonde is Harry Vanders he is the one with a daytime job. Harry and George or Vanders and Young as they we're known. We're a massive influence in Australian Rock. Writing all the Easybeats song and for Stevie Wright after they broke up, including the epic Evie I, ii, and iii. They also wrote a couple of songs and produced the first 5 albums of George's little brother's band AC/DC, as well as many others great Australian Bands. The Bay City Rollers even covered one of their songs, Yesterdays Heros. Vanders and Young even started their own band Flash in the Pan.

Easybeats are music gods in Australia. Their songs are fantastic dance songs on a Friday night at the club, i was dancing to an Easybeats tribute band just a couple of weeks ago. BTW, Easybeats were a little before the Monkees, but the Monkees style is so similar to the Easybeats that it makes me think there must be some inspiration there. Easybeats songs were big hits especially in Europe,so it would not be surprising that Davy Jones was very familiar with the Easybeats and Stevie Wright and their high energy madness. Here is a very rare clip shot at a studio near me here in Sydney. The song was a hit in 1965 so I expect this was shot in 65 or 66. It gives a feeling for the magic that launched them onto the international stage. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pdl3oJqXrrGqink.html

The Easybeats first three albums were all original songs. The Monkees hardly wrote any of their hit songs or actually played on their recordings. IMHO most of the Easys' better songs preceded Friday. They were written by singer Stevie Wright and George Young.

One of the absolute greatest Australian bands of all time, made up of young migrants from England, Scotland and Holland 🇦🇺 Stevie Wright was probably one of the greatest frontmen we have ever had, RIP ❤ This song was voted in one music industry poll as Australia's greatest single of all time, with Eagle Rock by Daddy Cool at number two, and at number three, Stevie's epic solo record, Evie Parts 1, 2 & 3 💕

Would love to see you react to Evie by Stevie Wright (lead singer with The Easybeats). The song is split into 3 parts. Part 1 is hard rock, part 2 is a ballad & part 3 is pop rock. When you string all 3 parts together the song comes in at 11.11. Part 1 is a classic Aussie rock anthem.

Great reaction to an incredible song. Sam is right to see the Monkey's connection. By the time this song was released Beatlemania had swept the world and dominated the music scene for numbers of years. The Monkey's were formed as a US TV group to ride that wave. They were brilliant but marred by the commercialism, IMHO, but the Beatle influence was unmistakable. The Easybeats (Australia) were obviously influenced heavily by the Beatles and it is that influence you are picking up on when you made the comment about the Monkeys. BTW, I have always assumed, but never been told, that their name EasyBEATS very quickly establishes the BEATles influence.

Easybeats was an Australian rock band 1964-1969 at the height of Beatles era. There biggest hits were "Women (Make You Feel Alright)", "Come and See Her" "Sorry" and these ne "Friday on My Mind". This song has been covered brilliantly by Gary Moore from Skid Row and Thin Lizzy kzfaq.info/get/bejne/msCXqatl3dPFZXk.html and there is a version by the Los Straitjackets another Australian band kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jdGGjJyStZu1d4E.html

The Monkees were a TV/Media created band. The Easybeats were real, great and made up of young immigrants who'd come to Australia for a better life. The Young family had a influence globally over decades including George's two younger brothers who formed AC/DC. Enough said.
