Let's exploring the profound teachings of the Eight Worldly Conditions in Buddhism. In the hustle and bustle of modern life, it's easy to get swept up in the pursuit of worldly pleasures and the avoidance of pain. Yet, as followers of the Buddha's teachings, we recognize that true happiness and inner peace lie beyond these fleeting experiences.
The Buddha once said:
"Monks, these eight worldly conditions spin after the world, and the world spins after these eight worldly conditions. Which eight? Gain, loss, status, disgrace, censure, praise, pleasure, & pain."
Gain and loss, fame and disgrace, blame and praise, and pleasure and pain.
These qualities among people are impermanent, transient, and perishable.
An intelligent and mindful person knows these things, seeing that they’re perishable. Desirable things don’t disturb their mind, nor are they repelled by the undesirable.
Both favoring and opposing are cleared and ended, they are no more.
Knowing the stainless, sorrowless state, they who have gone beyond rebirth understand rightly.”
