The Electric Ford Explorer | A New Direction?

Introducing the new Ford Explorer for the UK.
Unlike it's namesake in America, this is an all electric SUV, created in collaboration with VW using their MEB platform that their ID4 is built on.
It retains it American essence though - just look at it's design language - and there will be two trims to choose from, the Select or the Premium.
Due to launch next Summer, join us as we take a closer look.

im a Ford guy and if i had the money i would buy this explorer in a blink of an eye, love the design of it! especially that square steeringwheel taken from the Ford Gt

I was there the same day, first in the door to make a Short/tiktok video of the car before it was crowded with people. You must of arrived later as cant remember if I saw you. Cool to see another channel cover the car

Thanks Andy, we headed up on the last day in the BYD ATTO 3 after being ok’d by Evans Halshaw to film, as soon as we’d finished it was loaded up and off to its next dealership 😀 luckily there was only one person milling around. I take it you’re local to there?

@@PlanetautoUK oh yes, Andy I think it was, told me it was going later on on the Sunday. I went the Saturday first thing as it opened haha. Yeh not far, East Stockport way near to Derbyshire border. Are you local to this area?

@DriveWithAndy yes we had the OK at 12pm Sunday - and jumped in the Atto and zipped down, very cool of Evans Halshaw to let us both film it 😀 we’re just outside Kendal.

Die Fahrweise und die Qualität was da alles eingebaut ist wirklich gut Daumen 👍 sage nur Wau ,das ist doch kein Ford mehr, Mann kann sagen das ist ein Volkswagen Explorer 👍 ich bestelle mir einen glaube ich 😉

@@PlanetautoUKnot a fan of them, I had a blowout on my Kuga the other week, I was back on the road within 10-15mins. Without the spare I would of lost a whole days pay!

I'm afraid electric cars have completely given up on the spare wheel. This new Ford Explorer Electric is no exception. The chassis is an MEB platform and has no room for a spare wheel.

Yes, we’ve been seeing this since purely ICE platforms, and VWG now focusing on EV, it makes sense in saving weight etc

I like the look of it, but another monster SUV at a high price point Ben! Not a fan of everything on the touchscreen either. It will be out if the price range for the masses I fear. Is Ford abandoning its mass market ?

It’s the going rate if not a little lower for 300 mile and decent spec, there’s very little margin in low range small EV’s and Ford have an EV vision George. I believe we’ll see more of this rather than less.

@@PlanetautoUK excuses excuses.. 6.3 is not extreeme height ! its just regular height i mean 6 foot also will have issues so you had to bend you neck so hard to not hit the top while sitting down... for elder people its extreme discomfort so please just admit the issue !!! stop being beetch that is paid and talks bs

also i have to thank you for pimpointig this issue so i can avoid this car in the future.. Its not the only car that has this issues. Rav4 toyota front passenger has to be also dwarf, cause i am 6.33feet and i cannot even sit there cause my head is not fitting and hiting ceiling. @@PlanetautoUK

@roltol7539 no not for sitting down just climbing in, inside I had decent head room, which is clear as day Roltol. I didn’t bang my head or bend it in the VW equivalent why would it be any different in this. I duck to get in virtually every motor with the exception of pickups the Wagon R and big SUVs 😀 paid ha ha, we opted to drive to Manchester to see it. We have 10m views for a reason we’re honest and to the point. The above comment is entirely inaccurate, you’re the only person to comment at 6ft you don’t fit out of 10k viewers…

Have to agree with the other subscribers that yet another great big Suv with s price tag way beyond most people's reach 😢 i don't like the way we're heading in terms of styling & ev's give me a lovely slerk internal combustion engine car any day 😀 mice review though planet auto 👌

Our Picasso was way bigger😆 it’s an SUV but hardly big, an iX is big, its styling is more traditional pickup & SUV, with this model we’re more retro - if you will, Mustang is the futuristic model. I take it you prefer styling more like that? Ford like many manufacturers won’t turn change direction back to ice, even with another 5 years, as for price it’s less than the equivalent models with a similar powertrain.

This is more in line with the Ford Edge in size. Far short of being an Explorer. And I am speaking as a owner of the true Ford Explorer.

450 ltrs boot space, nearly 100 ltrs less than the iD4 (which if you drop the floor panel is even bigger). Ford E Explorer nit so good for fixed frame wheelchair & scooter users

The Megan Scenic E Tech has 545 Litres of boot space so it seems like the electric Ford Explorer doesn’t compare with the competition in this area

SUVs are here to stay, this looks a bit different to the general crop, like you we miss Fiesta etc however smaller cars they’re just not profitable for manufacturers sadly.

I would take what is under the skin. VW ID4 which has more space. This is not a real Ford.

By that logic, a Supra is not a real Toyota, a Solterra is not a real Subaru - these partnerships have been a staple of car manufacturers for years, and to be honest, we prefer this over the ID4. Give us an ID2, and this, and we've got the best of both worlds.

Names are a strange one with EV’s and a lot of manufacturers use there well known motor names for their EV models.
