In this episode I talk about the hidden cost of having your Etsy store suspended, and why I think it needs to be talked about a lot more.

I just had holiday mode on for 10 days, literally switched back on an hour ago and five sales already 🤷♀️ so luckily no harm done here 🙏

Well Nick, "huge apologize" are not necessary for such free help, right? 😄

If Etsy are to blame then they should reinstate the quality score. It wouldn't surprise me if they wouldn't have a clue how to do it. I keep hearing the words of many Etsy KZfaqrs "sell on more than one platform". Thank you for your podcasts and videos, they are always informative and engaging.

Thanks for being here, I honestly don't think they could do it!

If nothing else works, a movement of viral "public shaming" might work with them. Sellers who have been wronged take their complaints to the media, tiktok, youtube, and eventually if enough of this gets public, Etsy would have to address it.... one would think.

Sellers have tried this. They have already gone to the media. Nothing happened. The bottom line is that Etsy just doesn’t care. Sellers have talked about a class action lawsuit. That’ll never happen. It’s just unrealistic to take on such a big company.

Unfortunately this is true in most cases.

It only works if the fault is big enough, and gets huge media attention, then Etsy will very quickly change something.

My shop was shut down in error by Etsy. It took weeks to get it back. I was furious, as I had been doing so well! They emailed me to tell me it was a mistake after I appealed it. That was a year ago, and my shop has never been the same. I pour so much into my shop, and I work on it for hours each day. I'm worried that I should have just opened a new shop after that happened...but then again, it could happen again to me with another shop.

I'm sure that a legal submission would get prompt due respect.

I'd bet they have the legal right to suspend whoever, whenever, for whatever reason. It's their platform and we agreed to their terms when opening a shop. We don't have the same legal protections that an employee might.

@one_smol_duck no doubt.
