Hey, everyone, still a few things I obviously need to work on and clean up with this setup, but hope you all like the new changes with it- the next animated video will be our first battle recreation, so I'm hoping to polish a lot of the process a lot more for that one.

Now Thrawn's statement that most citizens don't see TIE fighters makes more sense! Seems a bit misleading but technically I guess it's true!
@DIEGhostfish
@DIEGhostfish 3 жыл бұрын
I mean how often do you see F-15s? Or even police helicopters. He also doesn;t say they don't see TIEs, but that they don't hear them screech overhead. So seeing a TIE going around on repulsors or so far away you can't hear the engine might be common, but having the ion engines going at full combat power is probably pretty rare.

Some headcanon: The Raider-Class corvette was intended to replace the IPV in service but delays in the development of suitable engines (it's engine rather than hull production that causes frequent bottlenecks in escort production) saw the IPV undergo an extension of life program that kept them in service with the Empire until the Battle of Endor.

I always liked these smaller Imperial ships from the old source books and from WEG. Getting into trouble with an IPV or Customs Frigate was far more likely than drawing the attentation of an ISD
@jonashemmingsson7301
@jonashemmingsson7301 3 жыл бұрын
Indeed. Unless you really pissed off the Empire, you likely wouldn't be facing ISDs. Even were IPVs would be insufficient, ships like Carracks, Strike cruisers, Dreadnaughts, Vindicators, GSDs, VSDs and so on would be both more readily available and cheaper to deploy than ISDs.

For some reason I always thought base game EAW's IPV looked more like an escape pod or small shuttle rather than a patrol vessel. Far Shot's version looks much better imo.

Such a coincidence. Just a few days ago I read about the IPV-1 in the Essential Guide to Warfare while taking a dump and wondered what the Empire's most common ship looks like.

Hi this is an awesome in depth video on such an important ship in the day to day Star Wars galaxy. One ship that I think never gets enough recognition is the Imperial Customs Corvette. I special like how the Empires Remnants had to have customs corvette step up into more combat duties as it’s ability to maintain larger ships diminished.

I like the holotable and stats! The IPV size and armament has me curious how one would fare against a CR 90. Would the warhead launcher and smaller profile make up for less turbolasers? Which is more maneuverable? Seems like a fairly even fight, might just come down to crews/tactics. Given both ships' popularity, I bet such fights would be common during the Galactic Civil War, much more so than ISD battles. Could make for a cool background story/setting/side conflict.
@antonisauren8998
@antonisauren8998 3 жыл бұрын
Going by WEG D6 stats, IPV was slightly lighter armored, heavier shielded, faser, more manuoverable, but it's turbolasers were lighter and placed rather to keep multiple light crafts at bay, then exchange broadsides with corvette.

@michelecastellotti9172 2 жыл бұрын
@@antonisauren8998 it must be said that the thing can fire all cannons forward and the warhead launcher could make up for it as well. Warheads are intended as proton torpedoes probably, so the fight is evenly matched

Now I get to razz you for removing the pointy concord nose and making it less of a flat teardrop. I still like the model but it just feels off to me as "THE" IPV (I adore that you salvaged some of the cool sensor/comms masts from the otherwise really terrible model it had in X-Wing Alliance. Even mods for XWA that update the model tend to lose those aspects)

Hey there, I did the concept design and model shown here. I was shooting for an in-between design based on aspects of all the different versions as you mentioned, plus also throwing in elements from the Marauder Corvette and Maul's Scimitar. The pointy EaW nose is definitely something I wanted to get rid of though. 😜 Glad you like the work!

This was neat! I had no idea this existed, but it has given some inspiration for my own universe. Also, the 3D modeling is really great, and high quality. I think the battles might be neat with a little pop up or a segment on each unique ship type, but of course what’s best for you is more important, so disregard this suggestion if you want.

It's a good start lad. Maybe ask Fractal can you use his models for presentations?
@CoreysDatapad
@CoreysDatapad 3 жыл бұрын
I have a large library of models I've made and my team has made. Using a mix of really high polygon models like Fractals in with other stuff wouldn't look very good, it'd just be a mish-mash of styles and if I tried to stay with solely really high poly assets that severely limits the content I can make. With this series I hope to be able to recreate battles from.the EU with a bunch of different ship types, which means a bunch of different assets. For example making a high poly IPV would turn this video from a project that takes a couple days to one that takes the entire month, which isn't feasible for a couple thousand views.

Imagine you're a proud graduate of the Imperial Naval Academy with high expectations just to become the captain of an IPV-1 guarding some shithole backwater system for the rest of your career. Well, I guess then you at least don't have to deal with all the opportunistic backstabbing going on in the more important fleets.
@boobah5643
@boobah5643 3 жыл бұрын
It's a weird setup. In a functional navy, you'd use the IPV as a way to test prospective starship commanders in a less critical post than actually entrusting a larger vessel to a new captain. Although between their role and the way they hold onto their crews it sounds more like they weren't part of the Imperial Navy, even if the Navy could commandeer the things from time to time.
@wilhufftarkin8543
@wilhufftarkin8543 2 жыл бұрын
@@boobah5643 Sorry for the late response. Near the end of the Clone Wars, all the various regional defense fleets were nationalized and integrated into the Republic Navy, which of course shortly afterwards became the Imperial Navy. Therefore, these IPVs do indeed belong to the Navy. However, I think that in practice, the regional defense fleets still operated pretty much on their own as they did before the Clone Wars, so that would explain why these crews spend most of their careers on the same ship. I could be wrong, but it would make sense that the well known naval academies like Prefsbelt IV or Anaxes are the super elite academies that only the most promising students (or the ones with the best connections) can attend and those people get to command the "proper" Navy with their star destroyers and stuff, while everyone else who wants to join the Navy can do it in his own sector and only gets to serve in the regional defense forces part of the Navy.

Must say, this ship is a comfortable sitting duck if you intercept one with Rebel or even Imperial craft. I mean, it doesn't look intimidating as the ISD and the dratted Nebulon-B, and the fact that it's a transport for enemy troops. You're kinda right, they do look cute in some way. Not sure why though.

I mean this in the politest way possible, but can we actually see the ships unobscured for longer in these videos? Even if it's just a still or a repeat of the animation. For a nearly 4 minute video on this vessel the non holo unobscured model is probably up for like 20 seconds with your cut to logo honestly taking up space that could better be used actually displaying the subject matter.
@CoreysDatapad
@CoreysDatapad 3 жыл бұрын
While more of the animated footage is always going to be the goal, the actual time it takes to render the footage is considerable, so setting up longer scenes (even if they're simple) can add hours to the overall time of production. For this one I had to entirely redo and re-render the animation which limited how much footage I was reasonable able to create- the fortyish seconds was about 30 hours of work and rendering as it is. I'd thought the footage of the ship on the holotable was enough to actually show the ship, but apparently not. Thanks for the feedback.
@archontiverius
@archontiverius 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's fair. Even maybe not dulling the forefront of the background image when the logo is up would be an improvement.

I put it on the screen when there's no picture or video to block. I talk about a lot of stuff that has limited visual resources, and rendering four full minutes of animation would take several days.
