Too bad Jia ruined any chance for her son. He was talented and smart. Would have gone far in life if it wasn't for her greed

I have to say, the scene where Hailan stands up in front of the emperor and all the harem and accosts Jia always sends shivers down my spine no matter how many times I re-watch it. The way she stands up without hesitation and takes that powerful oath (much to Jia's surprise, as Jia was certain it was Hailan who harmed her sons), Consort Ling's guilty look, and then the way Hailan asks Jia if she can also swear an oath, with Jia obviously failing, as she is very much guilty of all that Hailan accuses her of. It feels like Hailan has been waiting for this moment for a long time, and it also highlights how much she has changed from the fearful and timid First Class Attendant Hai to the fearless and scheming Consort Yu.

Hailan has been waiting for this moment since the beginning, when she discovered Jia instigated the Empress and Gao to frame Ruyi, sending her to the cold palace. Jia and her maids also plotted to medicate Hailan during her pregnancy, almost succeeding in killing her during the delivery. Ruyi tries to convince Hailan to forgive and forget, but Hailan swears vengeance for all they've suffered through together. Arou, Gao, and Langhua have all gotten their dues at this point, with Jia being the last offender of that original group, and the one Hailan gets to finally strike down in front of everyone. It's a decade old grudge finally being concluded.

not to mention i REALLY love how the emperor lets her speak i always thought of it as the emperors way of showing his trust in what hailan says, like she isnt one to speak lies so he allows her to go off on jia lol. my favorite scene

Who is this "Lordship" Jia keeps referring to? If Yongji were His Majesty's "extinguished" child that would mean that he was put out or dead. Could they mean "distinguished" as in set apart or elevated or exceptional? I felt some pity for Jia. To be so manipulative yet fail to see when you are being used. Oh well, the Lord gaveth and the Lord tooketh away. I had the impression that Jia loved the Lord. I guess it was the wrong Lord. What a guy, the way he betrayed her denying her legitimacy even as a human being. A father can deny but everybody must have a mother. Why would anyone gift such a creature to a King even as a maid? Even this Emperor wasn't that stupid.

The lordship she is referring to is the Crown Prince of Joseon (Korea). She grew up with him and is in love with him, but he only uses her. She was sent as a tribute to the Chinese Qing emperor. To please her Crown Prince back in Joseon she schemes to gain the Qing empress position to bring him glory. He's the guy she tearfully runs out to take a glimpse of when he was being escorted to the Imperial Court for punishment.

Jia’s maiden clan has Korean origins and she is very in love with the prince from there and is constantly scheming to get her and her sons in a position of power to benefit her maiden clan and the prince.
