The Dark Horse Star Wars series were amazing. I stopped buying Star Wars when Marvel took over.

The thing that Dark Horse did well was independent storytelling within the confines of the movies. The Quinlan Vos stuff by John Ostrander and Jan Duursema was very, very, very, underline very good. All original, but ran parallel to the Clone Wars. Dark Horse's weakness was always marketing, not product. Want to be depressed? Read Dark Times by Randy Stradley and Doug Wheatley. Surviving Jedi dealing with the new Empire. The ending of the first arc will kick you in the balls.

The 2015 relaunch was the first thing to get me to walk into a comic shop. I was a star wars fan thay became a weekly comic reader because of that star wars book. I also think there have been a lot of great content coming out of Disney star wars comics. Vader down, the first Lando series, every darth vader run. Then the era one shots wete all awesome.

I think with Star Wars they need to get newer writers whose background writing comics isn't Superheroes books

Nah, I'm done. Star Wars comics have worn out their welcome and I have minimal interest in going into the relaunch. I'll credit Marvel for launching strong, but everything dropped in quality in the 2020 relaunch. I'm amazed Marvel didn't do a legacy #100 when the 2020 book hit #25. Or mark when thry exceeded the original issue #108. (The 1978 book ended at #107, but they published a post mortem #108 in the 2010s.) Snooze.

Whenever the film and television people - which have higher canon priority - screw around with the canon, everybody below them scramble at the last minute.

Back in those early days, I was buying those Star Wars books and a bunch of Starlogs and Cinefantastique.

I loved the 70s Star Wars comics when they didn't have any lore to follow and the only rules were don't contradict anything that happened in A New Hope and don't kill off any characters who are going to appear in The Empire Strikes Back. I lost interest in Star Wars as a franchise just as the original Marvel series was winding down, so for me, that series and the first 3 movies ARE Star Wars, and none of the other stuff ever happened.

I’d just go after Daniel Warren Johnson, Brandon Graham, Simon Roy, Giannis Milonogiannis, Alexis Ziritt, Tom Scioli, and James Stokoe to do new Star Wars comics. Just get a team of guys that could do cool Star Wars stuff and let them do whatever within reason. Just get a bunch of cool artist that would do cool weird interesting things with Star Wars. I try pulling in some manga artist too... I’m not really sure why Marvel and DC aren’t pulling in manga artist to do comics given the state of the industry.

I never liked Disney Star Wars or cared about the comics. I prefer to think that Star Wars ended at Return of the Jedi. I don’t think these comics have brought in any new customers. I feel like people who like Star Wars sought the comics and not the other way around. But I heard most of these comics were not good to begin with.

These Star Wars books were boring. Writing comics for trades is one of the main reason comics are dying. I like Yu as well but his covers for this are dull.

As someone who has been reading the main line stuff(set in the original trilogy) when Soule stated his event comics mega series(War of the Bounty Hunters, Crimson Reign, Hidden Empire and Dark Droids) the events took over the comics and 4 of the main line books revolved around the the events for 2 years. both Sacks and Wong's books ended shortly their after but not before jumping up a dollar in prices. All Star Wars books go for a 4.99 rather then the usual 3.99. Marvel needing to increase the prices for the books is not a good sign for the brand.

I wonder if we'll ever get something as hyped as Shadows of the Empire again. It's wild to think this project felt big even without a movie. I don't know if that can happen again in the world of social media with insider news and people being insecure to just like what they like beyond the group think, and also I just don't know if there's a modern writer who can spearhead something that feels fresh and new. I picked up some of the latest run of Star Wars comics and while the stories are fairly serviceable, the Shadows of Empire replacement didn't match the hype. While people's mileage may vary, the biggest Star Wars killer for me has been the dialogue. The characters haven't sound right in my head. They sound like parodies or bad impersonations of the actors.

Women say they feel safer with a bear in the woods than with a man. Perch uses a bear as his avatar. One of those things that makes you go hmmm.

I just wish Disney would sell the rights to Star Wars, it’s hard to believe just how much damage they’ve done to it.

Most of these comics have it's sources in the old classic Star Wars-movies andstories. I believe they end it just so they can start new one with sources from ep VII-IX and their own high republic. And if they dip down in the old classic, it will be with Mando and Grogu.

I wouldn't be surprised if they relaunched with the Rei or High Republic time periods, the ones they created. Dark Horse made the stuff the fans liked, because that's how making money happens. Disney took licenses away from Dark Horse and Boom when they took over Marvel despite the comics being good. I really liked Boom's Darkwing Duck and Muppets run.

that artwork for the Marvel books looks terrible..... i went to the comic store awhile ago and i only checked out the back issues....found some dark horse SW comics.

There have been a few decent Star Wars titles put out by Marvel in the last decade, but nothing that's reached the heights of KOTOR, Legacy (I & II), or even something like the Thrawn trilogy adaptation that Dark Horse put out

If they cover from Return of the Jedi up to the Battle of Jakku? I'd probably check it out. Any comic that has the original crew together. Though. I imagine there will be two main titles: one covering Luke Skywalker and his (failed) attempt to rebuild the Jedi Order and one covering Han, Leia and the rest as they create the New Republic. It's also possible that they could follow the Dark Horse model and just do nothing but limited series all over the timeline.

By the '90s it was very unlikely that someone would have "discovered" Star Wars through the comics. When the first Marvel series launched in 1977 the movie wasn't even out yet. Even when it became a hit you could still only see the movie in the theaters. People who missed it or were too young to see the movie could have discovered the comics in place of the movies. But by 1992, when Dark Empire was released, there was the trilogy you could by or rent on analog disk, VHS, or Lazerdisk. There were various video games and Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire was out. So from then, until now, everyone knew if they liked Star Wars or not. They weren't going to check out the comics to see if that would change their minds. I especially can't imagine a parent taking a 10 year-old to a comic shop and the kid latches on to this weird comic called Star Wars that he's never heard of before. I like ya, Perch, but that's a weird take.

I liked the Darth Vader comic a lot. All the runs have been real solid and better than the superhero marvel titles I picked up

Personally for me, Disney needs to hold everything revolving around Star Wars, then Disney needs to sell it off to a company or to anyone else who will show the series respect or put it in public domain so true fans can actually write great stories.

Are we going to get a post ROTJ series setting? That would make sense coming next. Too bad we never got a new version of Shadows of the Empire.

I meant to say this in your Marvel Solicitations. Yeah The New Star Wars comic are mostly likely gonna be Post Return of Jedi. Because 1st Star Wars comics was in between New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. The current Star Wars comics that currently ending is between Empire Strikes back and Return of the Jedi. And Future Star Wars comics relaunch is gonna be Post Return of The Jedi with Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett. I really wish storyline and Ideas from Rangers of The New Republic would converts into A comic or a novel and they would keep Cara Dune. There is this character(I won’t bring up their name) who joins the First Order because they were Scrapping under the New Republic. That would be interesting plot point to expand in Rangers of the New Republic. But no. *Disney Lucasfilm has Biases Favoritism, They Suck and No Longer Support them for over 3 years now. F them!* Also how can make Darth Vader comics with Darth Vader being Dead? I mean they do comic on Force Ghost Anakin. I swear if Marvel gonna make An Ongoing series Kylo Ren, best to pack it up, Kylo Ren sucks as a character. I don’t know maybe other Jedi Survivors like the guy from Fallen Order games that survives during the empire era.
