The new Tom King run is the worst. It completely ignores any continuity and I feel like Diana is autistic in it. Every issue she says, 'No thank you', like it's supposed to be some powerful catch phrase. Ugh. So awful. Azzarello's run has been the best written, by far, so far. I think Azz went a little far with the whole 'Amazons seduce and kill sailors' bit, which probably turned off a bunch of WW's core fans (though I could live with it, honestly), the whole take on the gods was cool, and the greek god family was becoming interesting. Now... she just sucks.

I get that people think Ultimate X-Men coming out faster would improve it, but the art is suffering already as is. It's a bit simpler, and it's not as detailed or as colorful as Peach Momoko's art in Demon Days and Demon Wars. I don't know if there's a way for her to draw faster and maintain quality, unless she only did the writing, and maybe there were alternating artists (who shared a similar art style). Like, Greg Capullo and Gleb Melnikov, or Viktor Bogdanovic. Heck, why not all 3 of them? Maybe calling it Ultimate New Mutants or Ultimate X-Factor would at least make it sound better. Still, I don't understand how people came into reading it and expecting 90s X-Men. Like, Peach Momoko's covers have been selling for the past 1-2 years, and some people thought her art style would look like something else? I swear, I've read reviews and they'd say "I dislike the art style". Did people come crawling out from under rocks and never see Peach Momoko variant covers before?

I believe a better title for the book would've been Ultimate New Mutants. The book has more of a 1980s Sienkiewicz feel to it, with storylines like Demon Bear and Legion, than an X-Men established team book feel. I'm buying it, I'm reading it, and I'm enjoying it,...but, it's not X-Men. I feel Ultimate New Mutants would be more appropriate for the storyline, as well as the stylized art.

Hey Perch! I dropped ULTIMATE X-MEN off of my pull list after Issue #4. I was so excited for it leading up. I love Peach Momoko's work. And I was willing to give it a chance. I didn't read her DEMON DAYS but I did check out her STAR WARS VISIONS issue of which was different and artsy, something to interpret. And I'm a huge fan of her cover art. Now there are things I like about UXM like the cultural cues at the end of the issues. And the art is great. I like Hisako "Armor" as a character too. But this book literally bummed me out and isn't fun at all. We have 5 heroic female leads and Zero boys. The male characters are victims, a creepy host for The Shadow King, and Maystorm's physically abusive father. At least "Surge" Noriko Ashida has a tiny bit of iconic X-Men look to her outfit. But it's a little boring. It's not fun. It's kinda just a Shojo Manga...built for girls. X-Men is a high octane action adventure books for Girls AND Boys, Women AND Men. This realization was depressing. I don't want to spend my money or my attention here. What a bummer. This book bums me out. I get hopefully this could be a gateway for some manga readers to try something MARVEL and perhaps they can release a tankobon format for this and see what happens. But darn...hey I'm glad you like it. I wanted to like it and there are aspects to it I do like but hey...it's not made for me. I hope whomever this is made for shows up and supports this. Thanks.

I'm all about the long game give me like three years of Pregnant MJ. You won't even be able to tell until like the last year anyway. And honestly it has plenty of story potential. Like I know we did this once already in the 90s but they were trying to sideline them at that point so it didn't get a lot of focus. Could be interesting to see her navigate the modeling/acting thing while Pregnant. Give her new roles she couldn't get elsewhere. Peter finally has to finish his degree and get a real job so he can feel like he's supporting family, etc. As for UXM, I'm enjoying it and though we only have the flawed charts it seems to be relatively popular, still in the top ten in June. I definitely wish it, and frankly all the Ultimate line, was bi-weekly, as I think the pacing would feel bettter in that case, but that's really my only complaint. I think it's true that the book doesn't feel like "X-Men" or evne really a part of the rest of the Ultimate U and instead feels like it was just an excuse to give Momoko an ongoing, but I'm kind of ok with that.

I don't understand why people say to give it time, the first issue of X-Men ever has the original 5 fighting Magneto. I don't understand why a person who never even read X-Men is writing an X-Men book. X-Men is a superhero book, not some slice of life shoujo crap. If they pulled this with Ultimate Spider-Man people would be rightfully pissed (and they were when there was a book with nothing but Peter, Harry, MJ, and Gwen eating dinner for 20 pages straight).

An Ultimate X-Men book should at least have Professor X and the many of the most important and notable X-Men like Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Storm, Wolverine etc. As well as actual X-Men villains like Magneto, Sinister, Apocalypse, Juggernaut, Arcade, Mojo etc.

Because this is building g something from the ground up. The first issue of the original X-men book in the 60s drops you riiight into the middle of something that’s been going on before within the history. And then later revelations and backstories and works building was explored. This is literally dropping you into a world where there was no superheroes. Nothing. It’s a new universe being built from the dirt up.

@@cicolasnage5684 What does that have to do with anything? Professor X made the X-Men to stop evil mutants and people like Scott Summers were among the first mutants to be noticed in modern day (which is also why Professor X went to him first). It is irrelevant to whether or not there were other superheroes at the time, it is relevant to evil mutants and the emergency of X-Factors due to more and more mutations due to increased radiation from technology. There is a much better reimagination of pre X-Men called Children of the Atom which is more faithful to the source material than Ultimate X-Men.

Hey, you read my email. For once all these years. 1.) You are a month too early to talk about this. Cause first arc of Peach Momoko’s x men will be complete in *August* Issue 5 is not out yet. 2.) Yes I did go on. It is Call theories and predictions. Remember what that like? Having fun conversations about comic book. For example. What Surge’s Goal in ultimate X Men? I believe she is part of Sunfire’s Alliance. Who is gonna be wolverine since 6160 version of Logan dead? It’s obviously his son, Akihiro. That is why I believe Hellverine should be 616 Akihiro’s final story and he dies at the end. So his 6160 counterpart will be more prominent in ultimate x men. And since you show Natsu, my prediction is she is mostly likely Cyclops’ daughter. I think her mother might be *Colleen Wing* you know Colleen Wong is a love interest for cyclops that Chris Claremont originally planned before Madelyne Pryor. And Colleen Wing is Japanese. I first thought it was Psylocke(Kwannon who never swap bodies with Betsy Braddock) but it is unlikely now. The theories is one reason to convey to care about the series. The other reason they comic still lean idea being feared and hated. Like Hisako is ostracized and isolated from her peers after her friend Tsubasa(you make know him as Wing, Perch) committed suicide. Even when Hisako is isolated she still found a friend, MayStorm who is outcast just like her. The comic still leans on the mutants allegory of outsiders and misfits. That is the one point. I do believe issue 5 will put in more political part since Surge’s reveals Hisako’s mutant powers in the internet. Also issue 4 gave a cool fight scene. Of that Shadow tries possessing Hisako but she fight the shadow in her mind. 9:34 it is a crime that Heir of Apocalypse get a bi weekly release and Steve Orlando’s annihilation 2099 comic gets a weekly release but not Peach Momoko’s Ultimate x Men does not. A Crime, I say! 10:15 I found out only the trades of Ultimate X Men and Ultimate Black Panther are gonna have 4 issues. While the other trades of Hickman’s spider man and the ultimate is gonna have whole 6 issues. What is going on in Marvel? Why X Men and Black Panther are the only two comics that are missing a quarter of their first Arc? If you have a trade you need the whole story. 11:19 Well they did that already and it is gone. There is only Marvel Manga the only one is currently going is Spider-Man: Octopus-Girl. He transfer his mind into a Japanese elementary school girl. But yeah like something like Viz Media can actually give Peach Momoko’s x men a better chance Sakura Spider from Deadpool manga still appears in Spiderverse. Again I would call it Ultimate X as I say again, it feels like a Prologue. But I got feeling is gonna be more like X Men later on. Since issue 7 reveals that Psylocke is gonna be the mentor of the main cast of mutants. I like to see what is Kwannon’s life was when she never swap bodies with Betsy Braddock. You think she was a Member of the hand? Would Ogun be her rival? Also how does Rogue fits in Peach Momoko’s X Men? The time I remember Rogue was in japan is she helps Logan fights Silver Samurai and Viper. Since 6160 Logan is dead, Rogue and him never met. How Rogue gets into Japan? She might be already a student of Psylocke before Hisako and the others join the x men.

Well Claremont didn't rule the X-Men with an iron hand. Tho Claremont had struggles with Cockrum, Byrne, Paul Smith and Romita Jr and Silvestri were not his first choice, Claremont was collaborative. Enough so that Cockrum, Byrne, Alan Davis had said no to plot lines. Not in a disrespectful way, but they would say no to X-Men as Circus performers or Rogue Phoenix or even an artist like Silvestri needing to trim a plot. From an editor stand point, you could see that Claremont was malleable as far as the plot and he was able to change his plots even if he would save an idea for later. By the time Jim Lee came along, Claremont had a clear idea of where he wanted to go with the X-Men and they would have been very different with the Shadow King, Storm as a small kid, Wolverine losing his adamantium and Mutant Human struggle becoming more like Rachel future, not exactly like Day of the Future past, but close with the hounds. Bob Harras, who probably said no to some of Claremont's ideas was outright rejecting Claremont ideas in an X-Men summit as per Liefeld. Ideas for Wolverine couldn't happen because it would mess with Larry Hama. Claremont's idea for X-Men number 1 was entirely different... and if not for Harras and Jim Lee, Claremont would have never brought the original back save Jean or Beast. They say that Xavier was supposed to die. So from the Editorial side, Harras was more like, he's said no to a ton of Claremont's plots... and as said, he saw the Artist as the talents driving the book. Harras had already pushed Louise Simonson out for Rob Liefeld. Harras was less inclined to edit his artists, since he was clearly planning on riding their success and excepting stick figure plots and late books.

If Marvel would release Ultimate X-Men in a Viz TPB format for $15 and sell it at B&N and other bookstores, it would prolyl be Marvel's best selling TPB. The monthly floppy format just doesn't work for it's target audience. I think Marvel would have more success just licensing their superheroes to Viz and let Viz create, market, and sell these manga Marvel stories.

Edit: After re-reading your post, I think you might be referring to this more as a reprint thing… if so, what I said below might not apply. Depending on how you feel about who controls what story elements at Marvel or DC, licensing deals would probably not improve things much. This is because Marvel/DC would never enter a deal that did not give them approval rights for anything being published… so they could hold back any approvals (and publishing) until whatever agenda is met (if they wanted to). It all comes down to who is making these decisions and why. If it’s a bunch of idiot editors that would be out of the equation, then licensing might be a great thing… but if it goes up to more of a corporate directive, then nothing would really be changed by a license deal.
