I love it. Brings back a lot of good memories. Sadly, I lost touch with a lot of people I knew back then, but have a couple friends that quit playing that I am still in touch with and care a lot about. I think the game was more social back then as you NEEDED a guild to complete many of these raids and such.

I'm going to play classic but I'm under no illusion, I don't think it will be the same as the first time. Thanks for the wonderful vids. Keep it up.

I remember playing in vanilla in the barrens, leveling my tauren Shaman with friends. We were at the crossroads when a huge alliance raid attacked the town. I was invited to a raid group to fight back even though I was level 12 or something. I felt like I got sucked into a battle as a citizen more or less -- I was weak! But I attacked the enemies anyway. There were so many people, way more than 40 on each side. It felt epic. I didn't get any kills but it was a great moment that showed me how things could suddenly turn. It really felt like anything could happen at any moment.

Yeah, in my server I was just going to fly away from crossroads in barrens at lvl 22 as an orc shaman. The alliance had attacked an hour or so before. It must have been around 100+ players (like 3 people with lvl 40 mounts). Everyone started running to ashenvale. People joined the big raging crowd as it ran through barrens and into ashenvale. Then we charged the city astranaar. It was insane, the gaurds just destroying people. lvl 15-25 horde just spam healing the lvl 40+ tanking the gaurds. It was just an unreal battle scene. It will probably not happen again in classic. Becuse there will not be that many noobs :D

Back in Vanilla I reached Duskwood and went to explore the zone. I noticed that I’d uncovered everything apart from this blob near the middle. It took me a while and eventually I found a way in and uncovered Twilight Grove. I explored the place for a few minutes, seeing the trees and the strange big portal, but no mobs or quests to find, it felt weird. So I turned to go on my merry way and was shocked to see about 40 toons stomping into the place. They caught sight of me and lost their shit. Chat filled with these angry messages telling me to get out. I had no idea what I’d done to piss these people off, but not fully knowing the rules of the game i didn’t want to stick around in case they killed me (didn’t know that you couldn’t pvp same faction).

Hah they were probably afraid you'd pull the dragon onto them. It was always funny to see low levels just exploring in the area...quite the surprise for many people to get destroyed by a giant dragon in a level 20 zone lol

roskelld I have a similiar experience, except when I got in there the dragon was actually there, and then I was wondering why it *wasn’t* there during later visits. WoW was the first MMO for me, so obviously rare spawns and such were a completely alien concept to me.
@roskelld
@roskelld 5 жыл бұрын
Looking back I can see the reasons now, after a long wait for the respawn, the risk of other guilds stomping in knowing it all could come crashing down because some nooby low level derping around. Overall it shows how special world bosses and non-instanced events are to MMOs because they create situations between the places that are dealt with outside of the script of the game and become memories.

Funny how I haven't played for over 10 years but watched your memories videos with a big smile on my face. When I first started WoW it was like 2006 or 2007 but I didn't play on a real blizz server but rather a private server (as a high schooler, felt bad asking my parents to shell out 15$ a month for a subscription). I played with my friends on a private server and it was pretty hilarious, none of the bosses had any abilities so you could have like 15 ppl downing Ragnaros. One of my biggest memories (and regrets) was rolling need on this one Ragnaros shield that was great for tanking, which one of our warrior tanks had been waiting for months. As a dumbass 15 year old shaman, I thought hurr durr I can use shields too and that was like the first legendary drop that I'd seen that was actually something I could use. So I rolled need, got it, and then immediately felt bad because I realized that the warrior needed it more than me. He was nice about it, but I knew he was crushed since he had wanted it for months. So funny how many memories get born from even private servers that had barely half-working mechanics, and how intense everyone felt about the game). Still everyone loved the game and enjoyed the shit out of it, and we had some real rivalries with the horde on our server (back then I was a shaman and on our server totems didn't work and neither did dual-wield so I literally just ran around with an axe and world-pvp'd all day in Booty bay (we didn't have battlegrounds either, so world pvp was the only pvp we got). Still, I loved every second of it. Went off to college after a year, but I still missed WoW so much that in sophomore year, after a summer of getting some internship money, I finally got a legit subscription and played on a real server. Still have my character to this day, a lvl 80 mage named Aur. I forget the server. I never really got into raiding after I went legit, I think did Wrath naxx a few times, just remember wiping over and over again, so frustrating but yet so satisfying once we finally killed a boss. I don't think I ever ended up doing any more raids after wrath naxx, I think one of my only friends stopped playing at the time and so I stopped as well. Leveled up some alts, but then eventually real life took over and I quit cold turkey in January of 2009. 10 years later, watching your videos, I feel so much nostalgia hit me like waves and it's just crazy how much WoW still connects with my heart. As a teenager going through high school I loved online gaming, I was one of those gamers who could play solo or with a group, I didn't mind if none of my friends were on because I just loved playing the game so much, exploring, questing, pvping. I miss those days but I know I'll never get them back. I'm 30 now and it's pointless to jump back into this game. But watching these videos gives me a small sliver of satisfaction and happiness of a time long past when my life was much more chaotic and I was just a nerdy teenager trying to find a home in life, and certainly found it in the World of Warcraft for close to a year.

thank you for your comment i turn 23 in 3 days and i had similar experiences to yours playing on private servers since i was extremely young because i got into the game thanks to my older brother at the time not understanding anything about it and then bragging to my younger brother about how im max level 40 with a mount time flies and its all just some sweet memories left to reminiscent about

I'm so sad that this is the last one you are making man. I really enjoyed listening to each video, maybe more than one time, while I played and raided. I hope to hear your monotone voice over some WoW content again. Seeing your channel pop up a few weeks back and hearing your knowledge and the feeling you put into each video was very touching. I didn't expect at around 15:25 to actually kind of tear up about you talking through your experience of this game. Thanks for making this series! It was great to listen to, and I really want to see your channel make more content. It was so genuinely nice to hear you reminisce over your experiences. Might have said this before but I await the notification that your channel has uploaded a new video.

For some reasons, my favorite WoW experience was my very first one. The whole Durotar quest lines, back in Vanilla, here's the story and my thought on it: At the time, I still had fresh memories of Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos & Frozen Throne. It was awesome games to me. I liked them, too much charm. And someday in the school bus, I noticed a lot of my friends were talking about World of Warcraft, I didn't know what it was at the time, probably the next part of the RTS game franchise, where you've got to defeat the Lich King, Kel'Thuzad, Kil'Jaeden.. that kind of stuff. It was getting really popular. So, one day, I went to see a friend of mine, and he was playing WoW, I remember him playing as a troll mage, somewhere in the Barrens. I watched the gameplay, and I immediately liked it. So, what was the next step for me ? Trying the game myself. At first I got a 20 day free-trial, that's what we used to have instead of today with no time limit. Level cap remained at 20 for free-trial. The game proposed me to chose my faction, and...my memories from Warcraft 3 forced me to chose the Horde faction, because Arthas was a jerk and Thrall was the best guy. I shared the values of the Horde, and started as an orc warrior. I saw the introduction cinematic for my race, listening to the narrator, and saw myself spawning in Durotar. I noticed that NPC with the yellow quest mark on its head. It was intuitive for me that it was a Quest giver NPC, because it worked the same in Warcraft 3. and so I started questing, and did what everyone knows: killing boars. It wasn't that bad, and not as easy as today. But it wasn't boring actually. Then I remembered the Quasit mobs and their cave (the blue imps in Durotar), then I went out of the valley through that wall that stopped me from seeing what was outside...and I saw the Sen'jin village, and the echo Isles. I liked the reference to Warcraft 3, with that stupid witch-doctor that does ludicrous stuff...I remember that awesome struggle against Zalazane and the other mobs surrounding him. It was an awesome challenge at the time for a beginner. Then there was razorhill (I thought it was Orgrimmar at the first sight)...the Tiragarde Dungeon quest line was interesting, the harpies and razormanes in the canyons... I liked all of that, but here's my best memory about that: Seeing the Dranosh'ar Barricade for the first time, the Wall of Orgrimmar in all its majesty. A massive structure, a symbol of the strenght of the Horde. I knew I made it to the Gate of Orgrimmar, finally I knew what I had in mind now, entering the city, and meeting Thrall, my favorite character at the time. So I went through the gate, and entered the first valley of Orgrimmar, with the old bank and auction house, the zeppelin tower, etc... and I saw the chatbox with people selling their stuff (I thought blue and purple stuff was impressive at the time) Also, I spoted in the chat that before everyone's nicknames, there was written "General", and I thought ""holy shit, tons of people are Generals, so there must be Officers and Soldiers... this game must be overpopulated then... Yes I was clueless at the time. Pardon me I was young at the time. But I liked that experience. Seeing all these fascinating players running everywhere, some with mounts and shiny magic stuff... I wanted to be like them, so I continued to play. I really felt rewarded once I reached Orgrimmar. Durotar was a really nice memory for me.

LOL I still remember making it out of the Orc/Troll starting area, making my way to Razor Hill. Immediately on setting out on the main road, I see 2 level 2 Gnomes named "Donthitme" and "Notintheface" swim up on shore and just kinda chill by the roadside. Being a Rogue, I of course hit them. In the face.

I only played with 1 friend at the time but once he quit I started meeting new ones and even got other friends to join me. I remember me and him playing like 3 days straight with only a couple naps. One of my favorite memories. We had no idea what was happening those few days before wotlk when zombies were running around everywhere. It was so chaotic and confusing for us considering we didn't know any lore and were still learning the basic mechanics. Man i miss those days so much. Being younger and more carefree certainly helped. Thanks for making these videos.

I started a classic character on lights hope and had a fantastic time! Meeting people, exploring the old zones, taking my time with the zones and understanding all the places with high mob density was super interesting to look back on, who could forget dying 50 times a session hahahaha. I know you said you were ending the series here at the end of vanilla but I really think you should continue it into BC. This series has made me remember my own experences in vanilla as I watched along - such as from this video with the farming all the pre-naxx rewards mostly from Azshara that I still have on the shaman I did them on. Even if you have less memories from BC to share and only release a couple of videos instead of 8 - I'm sure I'm not the only person who would love to hear more about them.

It was a great experience to hear you tell your story, MadSeason. For those of us who share a common love for what Vanilla WoW once was, these stories have immeasurable value. It brought a tear to my eye to hear you conclude this series, but all things must pass. Thank you so much for sharing and all the work that you do.

Would be nice to see some "WoW memories: Special Edition" where you talk about memorable moments of the expansions. Jesus i'm so sad to see that series end, it has been a great warm up for building up my nostalgia for classic jajaja. Thanks for your content, Mad. I don't watch EVERY video you make, but when I do it I enjoy it till the last second of the video. As always, thumbs up and see you soon dear friend.

Absolutely excellent series! I just watched the whole series. I felt your pain when I went in wc not knowing I was a druid healer and doing damage instead....I deleted the toon as soon as I got called out for being a noob. I can not say again how much I lived this series in anticipation of classic. So many things I forgot that I'm looking forward to.

Hi Madseason! Was eagerly watching and waiting for this episode, after my guild actually cleared through the OldNaxx raid we kind of popped from massive fatigue and a lot of us left throughout BC with the biggest leave happening in Black Temple. As a result of my nostalgia I seek out and collect Naxx items on my new account. Thank you for this series, and thank you for sharing your memories with us!

Very nice. My main memories are similar to yours, raiding and exploring classic while it was still a new experience. My fondest memory was the first time some high level Paladin, level 60, took my little level 9 character from Stormwind, through Ironforge (and my first time in the tram), through loch modan and the wetlands at night (one of the first times I experienced night in the game). The wetlands was dangerous for me, but I loved it. Then we hopped on a boat to Darnassus, my first time seeing that blew me away. We ended up travelling further through the Barrens. For a low level character travelling with a level 60, which new players looked up to with their epic mounts etc... was something you didn't forget. I didn't raid as much at the time, got some easy gear and levels through PVP (and a Master Seargent rank). I did more raiding in WotLK actually where we had a blast, especially when they brought back Naxxramus which we cleared. ICC was awesome. I am looking forward to Classic again and I hope it is a huge success and spawns similar ideas. I know I have talked to newer players who also really want Classic as they never experienced it. But, it won't be the same as back then honestly, you can't bring back that feeling when the game was new, but hopefully some will grow to appreciate some of the systems back then. Sadly, the easiness of the game now may spoil any chance of that as players don't like the challenge and have grown used to having everything handed to them. I can see many rage quitting the first time they think they can gather up a group of murlocs and one shot them.... and they are the ones who end up getting one shotted. :)
