If you were curious about loose ends or the fate of different characters, stay tuned, because this is the ending of “Ozark’s” series finale explained.

The whole part 2, especially the final episode, kind of felt like they were building up for a 5th season. It's like they remembered in the final episode, "Oh yeah, it's ending." and everything was just rushed to make the time. The series overall was just brilliant and at the very least I found the last few episodes underwhelming. Just seems like there is more to it. It just seemed like a cop out to finish it all.

I hated that Ruth died, but the way she was killed off was true to her character. Her line "Are we gonna do this or what?" Clearly communicated that not only was she not scared of Camilla but she was in fact annoyed by her rambling monologue and would rather die than to have to listen to another word. That's why her character was awesome.

I could imagine Wendy being proud of Jonah going all Darlene Snell on Mel, but I couldn't accept Marty smirking and acting so encouraging as his son so brutally kills the only honest man on the show. The last episode embodied everything that has been going down. In Breaking Bad it was the descent of Walter into a criminal Kingpin, in Ozarks...it was the descent of family as a whole who have justified each and every one of their actions with the thought that it was "necessary" because it was all for "survival'. Wendy was the first to descend into the darkness (and consequently lose her humanity) with the hit on Ben. Marty, Jonah and Charlotte thus far, had all done things that compromised their morality but not their humanity. The descent for Marty was to give up Ruth in the final episode in DIRECT exchange for his family's well-being and guaranteed safety. In all this time, all these decisions.... we went along with them as the viewer and at times agreeing with these dark decisions with Marty and Co. The show up to that point had also forced the viewer to put themselves in their shoes and ask "would you have done the same?" and to some if not maybe all the answer would be a resounding "Yes" because it is afterall...to save your family. In the climax of the end, Ruth is killed but we knew that Ruth CHOSE that destiny by not listening to Marty. So the death can, again, be justified by thinking "She brought that on to herself". She made the ultimate plunge into the abyss by taking the life of Javi because she had lost the only thing that kept her grounded on this Earth and that was Wyatt (who had always been her emotional support/Moral compass). Jonah and Charlotte, who seemingly wanted to leave Marty and Wendy ended up reconciling with Wendy with her explanation behind the decision to sacrifice Ben, and it was for them, for the family and in her saying that "You can go if you choose to" ultimately led them to finally see that Wendy (by not forcing them to stay with her) really did love them if she was willing to let them go and make that choice...and yet they CHOSE to stay. At this point, the entire family were finally on the same page. ALL the choices was for the love of the family and they understood that in the end, which brings me to the final scene.... Mel just could not leave things alone man. And ended up grabbing the urn with Ben's ashes and show up after EVERYTHING....EVERYONE that was sacrificed to finally achieve their freedom and he was the only element threatening that. Seeing Jonah pickup the shotgun and shoot, while Marty smirked in pride and nodded in approval gave me no doubt that it was Mel who he shot at. Jonah made the final descent along with Charlotte as she watched in compliance as he put the final signature to the contract of their "freedom" with the blood of Mel but the kicker is this.... WE also... made a choice in our heads about this...some of us may have wanted Marty and fam achieve what they have fought SO HARD AND SO LONG to achieve and so we chose to believe he shot Mel. Some of us may have chosen differently, and chose to want to have Jonah shoot Wendy or Marty but that wouldn't make sense either because at any point in the series Jonah could have sabotaged the family plans and there was no time more apropos to do just that than in the Ben arc. So to me it makes perfect sense that he loses his humanity to protect has family, the same way Marty and Wendy have done all series long by shooting Mel. Camila Navarro had pointed out that Marty and Wendy were just like her....loyal to the family and willing to do everything and anything for them. After the Gala, The Byrdes were the new Navarro Cartel of The Ozark's and they have ascended to be the new Kingpins, fully endorsed by FBI and being "bulletproof" as Wendy stated with their newfound political power. I thought it would end in all their deaths but no...in exchange for their souls to the Devil they gained power only a select few achieve but...all this... at what cost?

Ruth’s death was inevitable, but I wish it was done better on-screen than her just walking up to a suspicious SUV parked on her property, Camilla walking from behind the trees and eventually shooting her. I wish it would’ve been written to where Ruth has the gun in the glovebox still, takes it out when she sees the SUV. Her and Camilla both shoot at each other, Ruth gets shot in the stomach while she shoots at Camilla, maybe clipping her with a bullet; Ruth stumbles all the way to her couch that was there the entire series, sits down and then dies. A perfect ending.. The message is clear.. Life's not always fair and justice isn't always served..Despite destroying countless life's and leaving a trail of utter destruction everywhere they go, the Byrds are now more powerful and united than ever. They are the true villains of the show by the end..Mel represented virtue.. He took the deal and got what he always wanted but the guilt was too much so he had to come back to take down the Byrds..he obviously had a gun when he confronted them but never imagined Jonah(still a kid) could blindside and kill him, signalling the entire families descent into darkness . Say goodnight to the good guy!

@drjohnson98
@drjohnson98 2 жыл бұрын
Marty didn't eerily foreshadow Omar's death to Camilla. He told her she had the green light to kill him during his transfer. Here's a question though. Camilla tried to kill Omar the first time because she believed he had killed Javi. Why did she still kill Omar after she realized that somebody else had? Also, after learning that it was Ruth Langmore why didn't she kill all of the Byrds too? She would have realized that Marty had misdirected both her and Omar about Javi's death. And it should have been implausible to her that the Byrds did not know Ruth had killed Javi, especially since she believed they were close enough too her to risk their own lives to save her. Lastly, why did Camilla accept Clare's answer as final after she had folded so easily under questioning? It was more reasonable to suspect the Byrds were somehow involved in Javi's death. Camilla could have pushed Clare with one more question as to whether anyone else was there and that would have been it for the Byrds. I liked the finale but this chain of events doesn't quite add up.

I wasn't happy with that ending, so many unanswered questions 1. What happened to Zeke, Agent Miller and Three? 2. Why was there so many moments that seemed out of character? Why didn't they show us the exchange between Ruth and Wendy's dad after Jonah and Charlotte returned to the motel?
@nwilt7114
@nwilt7114 2 жыл бұрын
1. I think it's open to interpretation (you could see Agent Miller exposing the Byrdes and the FBI for doing secret dealings with a drug cartel, going public especially if her boyfriend got killed). 2. Omar was asking in prison where they were taken him and at some point he may have given up (realized he had no chance of escape and understood his fate). I'm pretty sure he knew the procedure after the gun was pulled on him. He turned around and pulled the trigger knowing it was empty before he pulled it (so they could cover it up, something he probably had done before or heard about, being the head of a cartel). That's why he didn't turn and try to run in the woods (died facing his enemy and not running like a coward). What was more out of character was Marty beating a rando in traffic, meanwhile he couldn't standup for himself when it came to much anything else. Unless they were trying to show he was changing, however, that wasn't the case and he went back to being spineless Marty. 3. Probably cut for time, didn't know exactly how they should do the reactions with the kids, may have seemed repetitive, could have worked well if done right to show that they now realize that there mom had it rough and she's not all to blame for the way she is or how she acts (got it from her father/he wasn't ever father of the year like he portrays to his grandkids).

I myself was initially asking, why would Ruth be so stupid and walk into that obvious trap (approaching the parked car)? She’s smarter than that. Honestly I don’t think that was her being dumb, but her accepting her fate. She immediately knew Camilla knew the truth once she saw the car and was well aware that she would never escape the cartel. This is evident by the fact that she never bothers to try and fight or run. Ironically, by killing Javi, Ruth insured the Byrds’ survival but doomed herself.

God, this was a good show. The ending was disappointing to me, but very fitting to the series. I wanted Navarro to survive strangely. I wanted so badly for Ruth to survive, But she messed up so majorly by killing Javi, so it was inevitable. She went down like a boss, anyway. I wanted Wendy to lose. I was rooting for their family as a whole but ugh, I wanted so bad to see Marty stick it to Wendy just _once_ . Their relationship frustrated me but it was strangely sweet. I was thinking throughout the entire show why Marty always just did what Wendy said even if he found it crazy or disagreed, I thought it was probably because he loved her, or he was just a pushover, but deep down he likes her strength and the chaos she brings. It was the same thing with Darlene's husband. Anyway, I weirdly like how it ended with the whole family becoming corrupted. Of course, it's a heartbreaking thing but it shows a sad reality, that the ruthless and the rich always come out on top in this world, and it sucks. I mean, Ruth was not the most moral person in the entire show, but she was sort of the heart of it. Marty stopped being the heart when he threatened her. She was just about to get her life right, and right as she's about to get all she wanted she dies. It was like they extinguished the last bit of light left in the entire show, and solidified the notion that the good don't win. Ugh, this is me rambling and all over the place because I literally just finished it, what a messed up masterpiece of a show

It was a proud parent moment several times. Marty was proud when Wendy flagged Jonah and he saw the work Jonah was doing at the hotel too. Make no mistake they had embraced the criminal lifestyle by the 4th season. It’s funny the only thing that was beyond them was election tampering. That’s where Wendy drew the line. Not murder, not heroin dealing, but voting fraud.

There are quite a few Easter eggs in the last 14 episodes, so I’m assuming it ended like this: - Camila gets “hit” by the Chicago asset; bodyguard as well. - Marty goes to Mexico (as ordered by Navarro in episode 14); - Marty secures himself as the Cartel boss (he showed his intelligence and cold blood the last time he was there and secures it with the FBI; - Marty and Wendy get divorced to protect the kids; daughter helps Wendy with the foundation and son with the money-laundering. THE END 😂
@Mr.Gundam7
@Mr.Gundam7 Жыл бұрын
there was another hint too. I feel Camila told the priest to order that hit, that wasn't a coincidence. that truck was sent to kill them but they never die lol. that's why in episode 14 i could hint they were being a target i listen closely and got the hint when he said this: Priest: "Its not healthy to be around so much death". Wendy: "You're overreaching... AGAIN" Priest: How many times does God have to point at you before you take notice? I believe that accident was your LAST WARNING" He literally telling them they want them death!! but the Byrdes are super smart

Amazing way to end the show, in my opinion. No possible ending could've made everything feel right, and I think that's the point. It leaves you with a strange feeling that it wasn't a proper conclusion, but the show itself felt like a string of never ending consequences. Even after freeing themselves from their obligations to the cartel/FBI, the birds will most likely always have to deal with the psychological consequences now. Brilliant.

The concluding message I hear at the end is that - 'only wrong can succeed' - along with the flip-side - guilt -and all it's associated "charities" and "do-gooding". In the end, the under-class (Ruth) with the immense struggle for a better life, succeeds, only to be brought down by the same forces that provided the lift. Such is reflected in the times we live.

Can you forgive someone's evil deeds if the circumstances compromise them (being wrapped up by "real" evil: the cartel) and the objectives (keeping family together and escaping the cartel) are commendable. This series drives this question to the extreme. In this case the answer clearly is 'no' when it comes to Wendy and Marty Byrde. There is too much blood on their hands. But at some level you do keep rooting for the bad guy and wondering: if not losing the whole battle after all, what should their punishment be? In the last act of the series, this question gets an answer. They won't be punished by losing it all, but they'll have to live with themselves, their trail of destruction and the obvious fact that destruction won't end anytime soon, as Jonah turns out to be a chip off the old block when it comes to "means to an end" destruction.

better ending right here… Ruth gut feelings keeps her alive and obviously knows that car was danger and figures a way to kill Carmella. The FBI now has no choice and puts Marty in charge of the cartel. Private eye still gets killed by the son. The End. Fyi Ruth getting killed after letting the audience get invested in her really sucked. Good show with a terrible ending.

The writing was a let down this last season. Similar to Wendy’s ambitions, the writers bit off more than they could chew with too many story arcs and characters. The resolutions felt hastily done, like a band aid covering a gash. One thing that they did well, however, was in using dress symbolism to signify that bad wins in the end. Ruth, in white dress, killed in the end, while Marty, Wendy, Jonah and Camila all wearing black came out out on top.

Loved the show, hated the last part. It was terrible. And the car crash that was shown/teased... Lol. Had 0 effect on the story, was just a boring metaphor. The introduction of the father, Mel (boring character) having so much screen time, Nelson/Javi dying like it was nothing. The priest and sister were also tedious and way less threatening. They could have just given Marty more episodes of leading the cartel in Mexico rather than opening that many storylines.

Navarro's sister is unconvincing. She's in no way half as threatening as Darlene Snell or even Helen the lawyer. And the new FBI Agent replacing Miller does pretty much nothing. Mel and Wendy's dad are unnecessary characters as well. Marty and Ruth are sadly somehow underutilized in the FINALE. Wendy is just the perfect amount.

Ruth called in a double homicide and disappeared with the couples baby for 24 hours doesn't sound sus..... They even said it was all over the news. Not like they would have kept her in a room and integrated her for hours (especially about the inheritance) or anything..... Plus, the car crash everyone walked away like nothing. Wendy took a second to get out, but was fine and dandy walking around later in the day. Seemed out of character for Ruth (street smart) to just give up like that instead of doing a U turn out of there

I really enjoyed the ending of Ozark and thought it to be one that honored the series, and its characters. Typically, in fiction, whether it be a novel, play or film, there is/are protagonist(s) (sometimes known as the ‘good’ person) whose struggles throughout the story (whether they survive or not) somehow and in some way sets the moral universe right. For instance, the protagonist in Breaking Bad (though flawed as he might be), in the end, though he does not survive, he does in essence, set the moral universe right again. Poetic justice is another literary device very common in most literature where ultimately virtue is rewarded, and vice punished. In other words, characters are living in a structured universe where ultimately character’s fates are determined by adherence to a universal moral code. Ozark does not embrace these fictional troupes. The writers of Ozark appeared less interested in honoring this usual fictional construct but rather set about dismantling it altogether. The two protagonists (Marty and Wendy) as flawed as they may be, go about surviving not because they do good or evil but rather because of their stern application of what is most practical. And in this world, it is not doing evil or doing good that is rewarded, but rather an adherence to the pragmatic. There is no structured universe to set things right or to punish evil or to reward the good. There appears to be no moral universe whatsoever in Ozark that is set to reward or punish any character. The universe in which the characters of Ozark operate is a chaotic one without moral structure. Choices matter, but not because of any adherence to right or wrong but rather their level of practicality. The Byrdes survive not because they were evil or because they were good but rather because no matter how difficult the decision, they remained practical. They never allowed any illusions regarding a moral universe to cloud their judgement. Ozark is not an indictment of any characters but rather of our world. A world, the one we live in, is not like fiction. There is no moral universe that rewards the good and punishes the evil. Unfortunately, in our chaotic world, we know that the innocent suffer and that evil can be rewarded. That is the world we live in. And Ozark shuffled off the usual fictional troupes to bring that to life. The car accident scene that was repeated in the series is an important one. It contributed nothing whatsoever to the plot or to character development. So why was it included and not only included but repeated? I think it was included as to demonstrate the randomness and chaos of life. To demonstrate that at any point anything can happen without warning and without adherence to some ordered universe that dispels justice. “Buy all of the people.” If anything is the controlling agent in Ozark, it is money. From the very beginning monologue in the series, to the very last moments, we see that money is the center and controlling agent in this world. Ozark presented an uncompromising look at a world where money and the power it grants as the only measure of things. And it and not the moral universe was instrumental in determining who was rewarded and who was not. “Patience. Frugality. Sacrifice. When you boil it down, what do those three things have in common? Those are choices. Money is not peace of mind. Money's not happiness. Money is, at its essence...that measure of a man's choices.”

Here was the ending I was hoping for: Bloated Sister confronts Ruth with a gun, but she does it with two of her thugs by her side. But guess what? Marty and Wendy--or maybe just one of them--had called in Omar's hit on his sister, without us knowing. One of the thugs is "the guy from Chicago," and he takes out Camilla and the other thug before they can kill Ruth. As for the Byrdes, I really didn't care what happened to them (except for the kids, of course), and would've been fine with them dying somehow. But I wanted Ruth to survive.
