Actually Tracktion was first, Bitwig second and then came Reaper, BTW it's really good times for music production in Linux, I really hope that most of the audio production companies bring more support to Linux, the CLAP format could be a gamechanger for that purpose

Bitwig is single-handedly the most inspiring software I have ever used. It’s not that you couldn’t do this stuff in other DAWs but the steps are greatly reduced with bitwig.

@@jonnypetrovich3114 @Jonny Pietrowicz Bounce in place, better modulation tools, better audio editor, customizable hotkeys, less hardware requirements. @@zakur0hako I m curious what you mean by the way automation lines are displayed? i think the visual part is looking quite nice, but the grabbing and moving of automation is where Bitwig sucks compared to Ableton/Cubase. It feels less smooth to edit the automation.

And it supports Linux, for those of us fed up with Apple and Microsoft. Coming from Reason, I like the modular element of it's instruments. Sort of eurorack to Reason's 19' Rack. Also, I like how help and tips are integrated into everything. I haven't used Ableton so the session view concept is fun and interesting for me.

Hey - I was one of the voices requesting you make this video and I’m so appreciative you did! I’m relatively new to Bitwig, coming from studio one (with prior experience in Cubase, ableton and FL) and yeah: I think it’s the DAW of the future, certainly from a creative production point of view. The Grid, the modulators, operators, Note FX are all game-changers for me. I still do more of my heavy mixing in Studio One, but for pure production Bitwig is unbeatable imho. Thanks again!

Nice Bitwig review (history), Bitwig for me is the best DAW for Electronic music. Operators are a really nice implementation to experiment with randomness and other midi stuff like repeating notes or make some notes play with probability and combined with Note FX and the Note Grid you have a lot to experiment with midi. Also Bitwig is really stable compared to other DAWs

i really really love bitwig, the workflow just clicked instantly to me, biggest reason being track groups. And the automation and modules, it feels like if serum and phaseplant made a daw. I still main version 1.3.16 because i prefer the UI for couple things but the grid in bitwig 5 is fucking incredible, it makes me feel like I could just easily create a synth or an effect that otherwise Id have to buy. My goal is to someday to move my entire work flow to vanilla bitwig so I can be super portable but Itll take a lot of time to recreate my favourite effect racks and synth setups. Recently Ive started implementing oscilloscope math for oscilloscope music in the grid and it just feels so intuitive that i can represent formulas with not text put plugging a sine wave osc into multiplication module and so on.

I remember back in the day, the rumor was that Studio One was being made by some disgruntled Steinberg employees who were somewhat frustrated with the lack of innovation. I don't know if this was true but that's might be a cool story to tell.

Is the most transparent DAW. I'd actually just call it a non linear modular workstation that just happens to have a timeline and midi.
@yajrobot
@yajrobot Жыл бұрын
Tbh it's not completely non linear it just has the grid which works as a thing by itself and you can make a music just in here alone, in other aspects of workflow Bitwig is somewhat Ableton-esque and more a semimodular but not non linear for me. Maybe my view of non linearity is different tho. Nevertheless it's a great daw, the most advanced technologically out there hands down.

One could have mentioned the introduction of time-stretch algorithms other than their own, such as zplane's Elastique. And the MIDI Grid. Or that there's still missing MIDI comping. Also their efforts to establish a completely new open-source plugin format, called CLAP, together with U-He. And last but not least the controversy when they tried to introduce paid Plugins for their ecosystem, which violated their own EULA. That led in a HUGE backlash/shitstorm, resulting in rowing back this decision and make the promise that EVERY future functional update will be free within their subscribsion model.

Elastic Pro which is in Cubase and Protools is also in Bitwig which was a big deal for us to move to Bitwig, I think they are moving as fast as they can and the more people get behind this daw will be even better, I think eventually someone will buy them out like Yamaha did Steinberg because they are growing really fast, wait until Bitwig 5 hits, Now if someone could design a proper physical controller for this beast would be incredible

its funny, i like your comment, "bitwig (and ableton) are a very non linear process" 😅both are very very linear, left to right based processes. but yes, depending on context, beginners may find the more technical features quite non-linear to learn. ive had bitwig for about 5 years, using it for all new projects for a couple years now as ive tapered off of ableton, and so happy about it! the speed! the features! the touch screen monitor screen MPE-like finger keyboard+pads!

I have had bitwig since the preorder of 1.0 They ignore Mac users, honestly could be a great DAW, if they’d get over their own narcissism. They also ignore suggestions that would improve their daw. We still don’t have a tuner. They ignored the drum machine suggestions. They have yet to improve their Metal coding. A lot of the fans are narcissists, just like bitwig.
